hey just a critique i have on your rolls... you need to extend your body and not be so tight on the landing reach out further with your body so the impact is absorbed throughout your whole body
@sampajasli hey guys i srsly cant do the roll rite... :/, plz hlep, go check my videos on my channel plz plz hlep, i wana get my basics ready. plz hlep i wud appreciate it a LOT. plz plz help. i tend to hurt my back. And myself.
One thing I always do wrong is landing and going into a pk-roll.
I bend my knees past 90* and it also takes some time to get into the roll, so I feel a lot of pressure on my feet. How can I become better at landing with rolls?
the 'improper' rolls they show, are 'crumple' rolls, they basically eliminate the need for a roll by stressing your knees and going all the way to the ground before rolling, whereas the proper rolls use blocking (as i believe it is called) to transfer the energy forwards allowing you to dive into the roll, preserving the forward momentum and not stressing your knees.
As far as i know, the Blocking is the technique that allows you to transfer all the horizontal momentum to a vertical momentum to reach higer places in the jump. The "improper landings" that are showed here is a "jump of precision" or "precisions" this jumps haves to be done in reduced spaces to dont fall of.
they HELP prevent the effects, nothing will completely prevent them except for sitting on your ass all the time watching tv or being on the computer =P
but i dont really get wht u on about too lol hmm im starting parkour but tht forward momentum stuff n impact cinfused me now lol i had understood everytin until i red tht rofl
ull will notice yourself how much strain there is when u bend your legs more then 90 degreess, yes it absorbs more impact, thats the whole point , but then there would be no transfer in momentum, thats why they dont do it.
the bend 90 degree rles was only actually designed for beginner trauceurs, so that they wouldnt 'bottom out' (landing on your butt) when jumping from great height, as u become more advanced, u can forget the 90 degree rule and just lean forward as u land which will instantl from your roll
Another important point is not to allow the heels o hit the ground. If you don't bend too much the knees than they are safe due to proper absorption IF you don't hit hard on the heels. This shock could damage the heels, the feet, the knees or even other parts. It doesn't mean one should land with the feet straight, aligned with the shins. The first land on this video is nice as exemple.
What is too much for a person may not to be for another. It depends on several aspects as muscle strentgh or joint mobility. You can see David Belle land high drops bending a lot the knees but this surely works fine for him due to his experience and conditioning. This video is great as it gives a nice reference that should work for everybody. Think about this, if you feel the shock than it's too much.
You should roll whenever you can't absorb properly the shock. For practicing parkour you must learn how to land and roll properly and harmlessly on any surface. You should go for high drops without this skill being very accurate.
Wrong landnings does not only disrupt the flow and damage the knees, Some people tutch their ass in the back of their lower legs and that's not very good.
Although it isnt a good idea to go past 90 on your landings you should should train that part of your muscle be4 you work out. You need to have strength in every part of your leg so that if you do land badly from something you will get away with it.
if you do that your body absorbs all the shock. if you keep moving forward you can turn the downward momentum into forward momentum instead of hurting your knees.
Then it use filth if u destitute your legs

Willemall016 3 years ago
haha, the landings you said were worse were alot better than the "good" ones
90 degree rule is a load of crap
everything is very bad for your knees anyway
you think jumping and landing isn't bad for them?!
thats like saying that landing straight legged is good <_<
antparkour 3 years ago
errr dude, i think that what they said helped a lot. :D seriously
ariz12629 3 years ago
it's not good, trust me.
it was all a theory some austrian traceur made up.
he was then outright disproved by basically every scientifically minded person alive.
straighter legged landings = disgustingly bad.
antparkour 3 years ago
yeah, well they're not lading straight legged are they? And all the stress on their knees is taken, and put into forward momentum.
ufzpk 2 years ago
i didn't say they were
i said straghtER
how can your knee stress be put into a momentum?
that would just double the impact.
antparkour 2 years ago
all the downward force is being transferred to forward, keeping all the momentum and speed.
ufzpk 2 years ago
no
it goes into your legs.
the more you bend your knees
the less is actually absorbed
go ask a physio.
antparkour 2 years ago
i dont really understand wht u guys are talking about cna u explain plz

antparkour 2 years ago
but i dont really get wht u on about too lol hmm im starting parkour but tht forward momentum stuff n impact cinfused me now lol i had understood everytin until i red tht rofl
afnanbadboy 2 years ago
well
where they're landing and rolling,
the force they use is put into forward momentum for the roll,
which helps to reduce knee damage.
but with landings straighter legged, it actually does more damage
antparkour 2 years ago
oh now i understgand what it was about lol thx for clearing it for me :D

kboy3141 2 years ago
well, even from a young age i knew to bend my knees far down when landing,
somebody new shouldn't learn a bad technique at the start and then have to change it, leads to motor difficulties.
it's like saying
"OK, WHEN DOING AN ARM JUMP, DONT MAKE YOUR LEGS LAND ON THE WALL, LAND ON YOUR KNEES"
does the damage that not bending past the 90 degrees does, and should not be practiced.
i do agree though that you should not bend your knees TOO far. that can be very bad indeed.

I'm new to parkour..but I do martial arts..I have to ask isn't landing like that with your palms down generating risk for wrist sprains?
kodokwai 4 years ago
the force generally goes on your feet and you only use your hands to push your self away to keep flow.
TheendJosh 4 years ago
i don't think it's really putting palms down flat, i', not sure since i used to land 90 degrees like an idiot before i watched this vid.
I come from a martial arts background as well, that's where i learned how to roll.
if you try putting your palms down as you run and tilt forwards you don't feel much strain i don't think.
just one of those weird things i guess
M0U53Y 4 years ago
d00d, you didn't get it. If you lose the flow, you hurt your knees. If you keep the flow, and run without stopping Ur knees R safe.
