this is the best version out of all of them. my parents had this album when i was growing up in the late 60's/70's. there was another version by another but it was shorter and didn't flow as well.
this album also had a good version of sleigh ride and 12 days of christmas
Played this about half a billion times in my high school band in the 90s, because we played it in EVERY winter concert... and I still love it. Even if the trombone part was kind of dull until you get to the build at the end of "Sleigh Ride..." triple-forte and instructions to put the horns ABOVE the music stands is an invitation to just cut loose and blow the audience out the back of the auditorium, and you never get to do that unless it's Sousa, so the section just LOVED doing it! *grin*
I remember listening to this arrangement when I was a kid, the album had a fluffy white cat on it, looking pleased with itself, with one paw on the presents. It may or may not have been an album of Arthur Fiedler, but I definitely remember that cat.
I really love this pics, many tradition christmas hyms inside it ,--Joy to the world, silent night,O come all ye faithful,Hark!the herald angels sing, the first Noel, the angel did say,a wonderful pic ,I heard this song when i was a 12yo in Malysia in Radio, long time ago
I miss playing my euphonium in band now....:( We used to play this song, and so many other awesome Christmas arrangements...Christmas time was always the best...and even though I do not have a euphonium, it still is the best time of year! :) Merry Christmas everyone!
I'm getting goosebumps. I pulled this up because I missed hearing it. My daughter plays the euphonium in her school band (she's first chair, is in district band, AND brass choir, brag, brag) and they just had their Christmas concert. She had the solo (with the first chair trumpet, I think) on "Jingle Bells." She LOVES the instrument and wants to go on for a career in music education, though jobs are sparse!!!!
thanks for this wonderful melody! A very merry Christmas to everyone! Have a blessed year! May Jesus' Grace and His message of peace be washed over you! God bless!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I remember playing this in high school YEARS ago and I loved it! I can't thank you enough for bringing back good memories!
The finest Christmas medley on the market, capturing in less than nine minutes the whole range of Christmastime emotions, from the sublime to enraptured joy.
I can't stand this piece, haha. I've played it twice and I'm so sick of it before it even starts. But it's a Christmas classic so I've gotta have it on my Christmas playlist! Whatever is a girl to do? :P
Both my daughters played in Band during their High School years and this was one piece they would play from year to year. Their conductor/music teacher was awesome to get them to play this piece. It's very well written and performed.
@TheBaseballfan1996 haha i just love trying to hit the high c' on my trumpet :p haha. we started to play this piece today in my highschool band.its a tradition and i cant get enough of it!!!
@TheBaseballfan1996 By the end of the song my mouth is killing me! Jingle bells is where it starts to get harder... the notes aren't super high but it goes on for so long...
Great stuff, just wondering if anyone has heard the version played at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in the late 60's or 70's. That version is played a little differently and it was broadcast on the radio live.... and recorded on a reel to reel!! Merry Christmas to all!!!!!
This is great, I only wish that it was the recording of the performance in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in the late 60's. That recording was made off the radio.... on an old reel to reel..... there was a great sound!!!! Merry Christmas to all!!!
We used to play this full-volume every Christmas morning at our house. My late husband loved it [and the Boston Pops Orchestra] so much! Thanks for posting.
Saw this on Ace of Cakes when Duff Conducted, also i'm in orchestra at NJH i'm a sevie and we're playing this in. Also the 9 graders call us Orchas or Orchies.
my orchestra is playing this. it's quite challenging, i must say. mostly because of frequent key changes, including having to play in concert E major (which for me is F#). 6 sharps, not exactly what i call fun..
Thanks very much for posting this fantastic vid. I been looking for something like this for years. The arrangement is spot on. Thanks again Cindy and Merry early Christmas
i saw them in sacramento, and they rule, i wish i could see them again, i think it was this arangement also, not sure on that, but long live the pops, and merry realy early christmas to you all lol
I have a Christmas mix tape from the 80s that was originally a gift to my parents. Over the years, I've been trying to figure out who played all the songs. This is one of my favorite songs off that tape, and I'm very happy to have at last found out who performed it.
Incidentally, another song I like on the tape is the "Carol of the Bells" that comes off the same CD as this song. I still have not located the "Night Before Christmas" reading with the humorous sound effects. Anyone know?
Merry Christmas everyone!!! Wait, it's not Christmas time anymore? :'(
Well, the Christmas spirit should at least last throughout the year!
