This "live" version is better than the studio version, and better than the way they currently play it live (tuned down noticeably... the boys, nearing their golden years, just can't hit those high notes the same way anymore). I've always thought that, with the exception of Tom Sawyer, Rush as always been a better live band than studio band.

You don't even know what you are talking about. America is what made this band, not Canada. Canada would never even give them a chance to score a record deal and completely turned their backs on them. America is the country who embraced them immediately and gave them a chance to succeed. All of the members of Rush completely acknowledge and understand that they owe an everlasting debt to America. I think those 8 dislikes are from Canadians.

About ELP, I like them too. What they share with Rush is ability. Well, Greg Lake is a so so guitar player but Keith Emerson is a great pianist and keyboard player. Palmer is a great drummer. You do know that their thing for the most part was rocking out classical music.
One thing I love about this song is how Neil plays the intro each time they go into the chorus. First time it's one cymbal crash on downbeat, one flam on snare. Before second chorus, two crashes and two flams. Before third chorus, three crashes, three flams. So subtle, but so damn cool.
Try playing Lee's bass lines (whilst singing/keyboards) simultaneously, Lifeson's guitar riffs/arpeggios and solos, and finally Peart's complex drum rhythms. None of the above is easy to perform.
The "musicians" in many of the so-called bands of today would be completely and utterly out of their depth. Rush's complicated awesome music could well be described as being on a "timeless wavelength"!!

TRUE STORY: I grew up in Canada and moved to the States with my family when I was 14. I ran into Alex Lifeson at my neighborhood record store when I was 12. I hadn't really gotten into Rush yet, but I knew who they were because my dad was a HUGE fan. Anyway, he and I got to talking..the next thing you know he's asking me if I've ever "been with" a grown up before. I wasn't sure what he meant -- then he started saying things like "How'd you like to make fifty bucks?" It was creepy, so I left.

About ELP, I like them too. What they share with Rush is ability. Well, Greg Lake is a so so guitar player but Keith Emerson is a great pianist and keyboard player. Palmer is a great drummer. You do know that their thing for the most part was rocking out classical music.

One thing I love about this song is how Neil plays the intro each time they go into the chorus. First time it's one cymbal crash on downbeat, one flam on snare. Before second chorus, two crashes and two flams. Before third chorus, three crashes, three flams. So subtle, but so damn cool.

Try playing Lee's bass lines (whilst singing/keyboards) simultaneously, Lifeson's guitar riffs/arpeggios and solos, and finally Peart's complex drum rhythms. None of the above is easy to perform.
The "musicians" in many of the so-called bands of today would be completely and utterly out of their depth. Rush's complicated awesome music could well be described as being on a "timeless wavelength"!!
