Haha i do this on my 2.5 jetta :) i love useing the sport mode i smoked this guy in his madza i showed him vw power :) i want a rabbit thou they seem awesome :)
sigh. i miss the rabbit. traded it in for the new Golf High line package 2011. the new golf is awesome dont get me wrong, but the rabbit was a fun hatch.
@royalxchaos9 "S" designates sport mode...this transaxle has 3 modes.....regular auto, sport(factory improved shift points), and manual mode....and do I miss it.....course I'd still prefer a full manual...
I have a 17 rabbit and a 05 touareg. Had to take them to the dealer for maintenance and some recall stuff. Well they gave me a newer rabbit with the 170 hp. Tell you what...no difference except the newer revs higher. In fact I feel that my 150 hp engine gets much lower torque...must be something to do with the cams or intake...not sure.
damn... moves pretty quick! little bit faster than my Maxima lol... can't wait to put back my Headers Exhaust and chip.. ill be doing 1 second less 6.3
I have a 07 Rabbit as well and love it. One point is 07 specs call out 150HP. The 08 release has 170HP. I have also noticed that the Rabbits speedometer consistently reads 6 mph faster than actual speed. I just want to learn how to pump it up without my wife knowing that I spent some money.
Not bad at all, probably would give my GTI MKV a run for it's money. I used to have an '08 bunny until it got totaled. A great 5cyl car, it has a lot of potential. Kudos dude!
the rabbit (or the golf as the new one is called again) only come with the 6 speed auto trans, which is quite a bit inferior to the 5 speed standard, though better on gas
@erik1980 Correction...the DSG is faster, the regular 6speed auto is in fact slower than a manual....and I highly doubt ANY Chevy short of a Vette will do 60 in FIRST gear...that's ridiculous, 2nd....ok reasonable, many V8 cars can do that...
sounds more like a gallardo because this is a 2.5 and the gallardo is a 5.0 so this would be exactally half the pistons and size if a gallardo engine. it sounds good.
Inline 5 vs. v10. You fail. Honestly, american grunt A. doesn't sound at good, B. is a lot deeper, C. is a lot faster, 60 would have been reached long before this car even hit 35. You are the epic fail sir.

I'm looking to buy a vdub in the future though, so actually, if anybody has a tip, GTI or rabbit? the rabbit i know is cheaper to mod, but the GTI really only needs the ECU chip. Any suggestions?
well it depends honestly. gti has a bit more aftermarket stuff out than the rabbit but the rabbit can make serious power with some mods. right out the box tho, the gti with 200hp and the rabbit making 177. The rabbit stock handles well for street tires and suspension n the gti is a step up for all of it. all the options avaliable on the rabbit is standard on the gti except the sunroof(i know i work for vw). whatever floats ur boat man.
the chip is a huge difference when you have it coupled with a CAI and Exhaust..GIAC even says this on their website. If we are talking bhp the rabbit with these mods would be roughly 225..but i only deal in whp so its dyno is 211 whp to be exact.
well.. I have an 08' rabbit with GIAC flash and Carbonio CAI and AWE exhaust and its puttin 210 at the wheels. If you only got 10hp out of your rabbit with all those mods you didn't do something right at all
see where this car hurts against a (non Si) civic and i say non Si because the GTI is for the Civic Si. But its 2nd gear is shifting to 3rd at 50mph. That sucks. I know this is an auto, but the civics have taller gears. This car has alot of Low low end grunt i see, but it starts hurting around 60-70mph thats seriously not enough to wax a (non Si). Real talk guys. Dont knock me or nothing. Just talkin from experience with both cars. Still get my 5 stars just for tryin to mod your Golf. Keep it up
The rabbit is a nice car for the money and certainly isn't slow, but if your trying to compare its performance to a GTI's you cant. Its not designed for racing its an economy car and the 2.5 has very limited capabilities even with all the mods you can find.
yeah its pretty sad that all they could get out of the I5 was 170 hp, the pontaic G5 GT with a 2.4 I4 is 171 hp but of course that has less standard features and costs more, point is they should have gotten at least 185ish hp out of it
hehe just got my 07 rabbit a couple of months ago it pwns ^^ want to get cold air intake switch out the chip and put new exhaust on it should push out 220++ wish someone would design a turbo for the 2.5 ;*(
220 impossible for a 2.5, i had the Rabbit and put every possible mod on it probably got at max 170HP, it was fast and could keep up with a GTI from 0-60 but from 60-100 GTI owns!
lol 220 is definately more than possible with a turbo, and 220 with the 2.5 is as you said probably not possible. Most i have seen was GHL exhaust, vf intake, vf rear engine mount, headers, and giac and it dynoed at about 200hp at the crank and 225tq. i will try to find the guys post again and let you know specifics. i think it was on the vwvortex forum but i cant remember.
This isnt impossible at all. I have a Rabbit thats modded and is still NA and Im pushing 200 to the wheels, dyno proven. Considering drivetrain loss, im probably at 225 to the crank. With a header and full exhaust I'd be up to around 240 at least.
@Trixstor Only way you can make that kind power NA is to get an intake manifold with supporting software. Right now Im pushing 200+ to the wheels and considering drivetrain loss, thats about 225 at the the crank. This IS totaly possible to do, just gotta have the right parts.
GTI also has the xenon headlights, GPS, leather seats, Sunroof etc. your statement dosent make sense!
its like saying the regular mustang is the same as the Mustang GT! yes the Body style is the same but the engine is a V-8 and its alot faster! same with the (E350,E500) (Mazda3,Mazdaspeed3)????
thats what i said, same body, dif engine and front end, except both E350 to E500 and mustand and mustang gt, is both moving from 6 cylinders to 8, gti is actually smaller engine and one cylinder less than a reg rabbit. the 2.5 liter i5 has more potential.
also, another "problem" with our engine is that it is low compression.... thats not good for NA power. for NA power we will need more compression. otherwise, we are looking at very little gains.
@mk5isgod none of those upgrades really improve the power output of the car very much, your simply talking minor gains. nothing increases power output like forced induction, which is why you will always have a hard time keeping up with gtis...the 2.5 does have more potential than the gti, with a stage ii turbo a 2.5 will walk all over a stock r32...reason being is the way the 2.5 is designed it is a very torque happy engine...and actually develops better torque curves than the 2.0t
@mk5isgod but even though its torque curve is the same, it cannot climb the rpm fast enough to make full use of it because it can only rev as fast as it can get enough o2 for combustion, this is why a super charger or turbo is such an advantage, forcing the o2 in allows for the engine to rev quicker
@annihilationnegitive It also has what's called "rev-hang", apparently something programmed into the computer, I just learned this, C2 motorsports can delete this feature along with many others in their software reflash...
the new gti does not have 230 stock hp sorry buddy but you need to do some more research i believe its specs are closer to 200hp and 207tq but im not positive
its a great car/engine and everything, but 170hp is still not that great for a modern 2.5 liter... IMO it should be getting close to 170whp STOCK or maybe 190ish at the crank. still not that bad though, i love this car :)
Wish the 5 cylinder was a 4 cylinder. Would get better mileage. Also it sucks vw dropped the turbo option for the latest ones.
