  • I wish this went on longer, such an enjoyable and interesting talk. I'd also love to hear more from Derek Cianfrance, the process behind making blue valentine seems so fascinating.

  • WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME OF THIS VIDEO...THIS IS EPIC X3

  • Aronofsky is one fly mother fucker.

  • Derek Cianfrance kind of looks like Edward Norton here...

  • What a horrible wide shot! Did they not have a tripod. Makes me feel like someone's shoved my head to the table every tie they cut to that awful framing!

  • I clicked this so excited to see David Fincher and he's not there WTF.

  • I agree that the Sex vs Violence is backwards. Who makes these decisions that it is ok to feed violence to kids but it is wrong for them to see a naked body? Is it ever examined by academia how this relates to violence in society?

  • David is looking down at Lisa's blouse WTF. Sorry was hard not to notice.

Annette's character is soo much like Lisa. Dito. All lovely movies. My fave is Blue valentine! And again Derek and Ryan's character look alike. Great video!

  • What does it mean when they keep saying 23 or 30 days for x amount of money? Is it that they only had that many days to shoot for that much amount of money?

  • david o russell seems like an ass

  • YOU DIDNT ASK DARREN ABOUT HIS PASSION PRJECT Noah. damnit

  • Instead of whining about Fincher or Nolan, I'm surprised no one's commented on the interviewer's question about who identifies as a megalomaniac, clearly directed at Russell who sits there and says nothing.

  • @nyfachris81 LOL

  • DOUBLE POST

  • Darren Aronofsky/Christian Bale

  • yo Darren and his scarfs haha

  • Darren Aronofsky resembles Christian Bale!

  • what would be your ideal directors roundtable, regardless of age or death? mine would be david lynch, the coen brothers, tarantino hitchcock and kubrick

  • @jamdodgeismyname1

    Kubrick

    Joel Coen

    Eastwood

    Fincher

    Scorsese

    Kathryn Bigelow

  • @GMVintage BWAWAWA at bigelow wtf

  • @HotPocketsBoy Included her just for a roundtable.

  • @GMVintage yea i know. i saw it.

  • Where's Coen Bros. Tarantino?

  • they all have glasses of water in wine glasses.... sad

  • @vespacurry how do u know its water?

  • I respect all these filmmakers, and Tom and Pete are great, and Darren is one of my favorites, but I gotta say, Derek kills it in this interview. He's so insightful. Everyone seems to shake their head when he talks like they're saying, "Fuck. This guy knows his stuff."

  • Michael Bay would blow all of them out of the water (...could do it literally too)

  • This isn't a roundtable.

  • Wheres Michael Bay?,

  • @01rai01 Making shit commercial movies

  • @louiscfc93 probably still counting his money from transformers 1

  • @01rai01 Because hes an accountant not a director

  • @louiscfc93 he's not that smart,

  • I'm here for Darren.

  • DARREN ARONOFSKY. That is all.

  • Wow, there's only one woman! Like the alien at the table.

  • Somehow Peter Weir reminds me of older(er) Harrison Ford.

  • Even though his film had the worst Oscar luck of the bunch--because it was given such pathetic, blink-and-you'll-miss-it distribution--Peter Weir is by far the best director at the table. My favorite director of all-time, in fact.

  • Peter Weir's got the best filmography. I wonder why he's there.

  • "2 fucks or more it's an R" haha it just sounds really funny when he says the word

  • Thanks for this video--it was excellent. Where's the Writers Roundtable for this year?

  • I would have gone through hell to see fincher and nolan sitting on one table, discussing about film

  • where is Danny Boyle, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher?

  • i just realized that what the blue valentine director was talking about was abortion.

  • Mr.Hooper, I salute you!

  • Tom Hooper is really unlikable.

  • Hollywood needs MORE FEMALE DIRECTORS!

  • @haleyvickers I'm just confused about your reasoning. I feel like you're blaming Hollywood. Is that what you are doing? I'm pretty sure Hollywood feels that anyone who directs well enough to make them money will be given an opportunity to make those movies and in turn them money. I'm just looking for some clarity in your statement.

  • @haleyvickers : who's stopping females making films in hollywood?..get over yourself..what you should be saying is "hollywood needs GOOD female directors"..don't be another feminist crybaby trying to turn art into a gender war...if females (and I'm assuming you are one) want more hollywood directors, then they need to get off their asses and make films!..just like the boys do

  • @deathfromabove77 If only things were that simple. It's amazing that you're completely dismissing the fact that there's a gender structure in the movie business. Who's at the head of the studios? Who decides ultimately who will get the money and who won't? That's right: white men. Therefore, women will get less opportunity to direct movies or to get financing. Also replace "women" by "black". Would you say that black directors should just get off their asses and make movies?

  • @deathfromabove77 Of course you wouldn't because that would be stupid. There are less opportunities for women AND for racial minorities. Also there are more men in the business period so to see yourself, to project yourself as a director must be harder for a woman or for a non-white person because who do you see as role models for directors around you? Again: white men. The issue is much more complicated that you make it out to be.

  • derek has a funny sense of humour

  • where is danny boyle??

  • is it me or does tom hooper resemble james cameron? :D

they're all so safisticated and have such an amazing imagination that everyone should have won an oscar :)

  • No David Fincher, Danny Boyle or Christopher Nolan???? WTF??

  • I love Darren's voice ! it´s so smooth ...

  • What was the name of the harold pinter play they were talking about?

  • I can only hope David Fincher and Christoper Nolan were off making new movies and thus to busy to take part in this interview.

  • Blue Valentine was fucked over by the Academy...

  • @Iker122 Blue Valentine fucking sucked.

  • @ryanfoley123 too complex for you, I guess..

  • The MPAA is a group of parents. Watch " This Film is Rated" and you will see.

  • I love Tom Hooper's discussion about film ratings. Brilliant and so true!

  • Derek Cianfrance looks just like Ryan Gosling.

  • Darren! Oscar winner in my heart.

  • no Nolan. ah, what a shame

  • Darren's got so much SWAG!

  • why is the intro song the same as digital tutors?

  • Isn't there a roundtable discussion with screenwriters?

  • @ZachClooney It should be.

  • Nolan probably didn't show because a few years ago David O. Russell put him in a headlock at a party because he wanted Jude Law for his movie or something. And Fincher is in Sweden shooting The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

  • Man, it's not fair! I want Chris Nolan, David Fincher and Darren Aronofsky to win an oscar each. They're all so amazing!

  • WHERE ARE CHRISTOPHER AND DAVID!?

  • wheres david?

  • Darren is a Boss!

  • Instantly favoured! I loved this!

And for the record (since the majority of the comment section is asking wheres Fincher and Nolan) I rather have Aronofsky than Fincher here on the table.

    Great video.

    Please enjoy it everyone!

  • Peter Weir is a real professional.

  • I didn't know that gosling was made to look like cianfrance in the movie

  • I cannot jump on board with their opinion on ratings. These guys are trying to make an excuse for the content of two women and one dildo in Requiem for instance, and they're trying to get a movie like Blue Valentine (my favorite movie of the year) down to an age where kids can see it. The problem IS that they're trying to get kids into the theater to see this movie. It's ok if no child should see Blue Valentine. It's OK if there are movies specifically for adults. They're talking about $.

  • Comment removed

  • @BunnyMan456 I totally agree. Blue Valentine is for adults and no argument they come up with will excuse why they think that kids should be seeing it. Even if young people under 18 did, I very much doubt that they would see beneath the surface or get the raw message like he's saying. It's just about the money and that's insulting in itself.

  • i was surprised that chris nolan wasnt there.

  • They all kind of remind me of their casts in their looks

  • Darren Aronofsky is awesome

  • Thank you for uploading these vids!

I just noticed- Lisa Cholodenko talks exactly like Julianne Moore's character in her movie... Quite interesting...

  • @Avitalstern but she looks like annette bening's character.

  • great interview. but David Fincher... Christopher Nolan.. ? really though?

  • Comment removed

  • @pishelle David Fincher was probably in Sweden filming GIRL WITH A DRAGON TATTOO; I'm not sure where Chirs Nolan was. These group interviews and appearances all depend on who's available at the time, not necessarily who is bound to get Oscar-nominated.

  • @pishelle Yes. So great of THR to have organised and filmed this roundable discussion. Is there one for screenwriters?

  • @pishelle and where is Danny Boyle too?

  • @pishelle They get who they can get. Scheduling conflicts. This is real life and people are working.

  • Where is David fincher?

  • @TooCynical123 "The Social Network" is not even in the same league as "Blue Valentine."

  • @MrFrankBullitt

oh I agree but still would've liked to see him there

  • @TooCynical123 Your name fits.

  • More of this please !!!!
