No warps means, and always has meant, in every mario game ever made, not using a warp zone.

Going through the bonus area isn't warping, and it barely saves any time. In fact, going through bonus areas in a lot of levels takes LONGER than not going through them.

just out of curiosity-- for the purpose of speedrunning, wouldn't it be faster to touch the bottom of the flagpole at the end of each level? Wouldn't that save like 30 seconds over the course of the entire game where you didn't have to wait for the score to calculate?

@jrmenard630 no matter where you land on the flagpole it takes the same amount of animation time. your scores from it are added instantly and then you get your time bonus. just fyi

@calicocidd True about the time for the score. Not true however for all places that you can land on the flag. If you land low on the flag there is a chance that mario will hit the block holding the flag before he hits ground. When mario comes off of the flag he falls backwards, which produces more velocity than falling forward. If he hits the block he stops acclerating sooner and it takes longer(about 5 frames) for him to get to the building.

what people need to understand is that this is an old game filled with many glitches. it isn't perfect by any means and that's why he's able to do the things he's doing. it's not fake.
