Underground river snorkleing at Xcaret in Cancun

This is why they give you a 50% discount in the 2nd day. But there is so much to see and enjoy in cancun! the beach, Xplore, Tulum, XelHa, Delphinus, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel... wow, is amazing.. I'm returning back to the office and really miss Xcaret and Cancun... very nice place!!

I been there too, I liked it, but at the moment you're floating it is not as amazing as it seems. It's human made, but it's worth it

There's a place on this snorkeling route where if you look down right, there's a tight crevice that looks really freaky...

Anyone who's ever been there, um...I'm going there in April '09 and I was just wondering: In the underground river does it get pitch dark? And are there fish in the water?

As far as I can tell the underground river is not a man mad thing so as I floated through it, there was always at least some light but if you wish to dive or get a little out of the main current that carries you, you could find super dark areas both above and below water. Yes there are small fish that are hard to see in the areas where you have a roof over your head. The more colorful fish hang out at the opening and the exit of the river.

yes it gets super dark at times...but its fun! :-D and yes it has under water caves 2...i remember they said that one of them was so deep they dont know what's down there or when it ends!

@waytooawesome4you No there is no fish and there is a choice pitch dark w/ fish and opposite

@waytooawesome4you  I took my (then) 10 yr. old on in 1993, when it was a new excavation. He snorkeled thru here, but I suddenly got scared. Looks awesome to me now! Would love to go back. Have gone snorkeling in Hawaii, too, but this was way better!
