  • The beginning is like a cheap porn movie.

  • the way he moves his head reminds me of sheldon cooper

  • Is his guitar tuned a little too much sharp?

  • Where is Steve Rothery, David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler or Jeff Beck when you need them....

  • Wank wank wank for like the first few minutes

  • Thanks Gregg, you da master; but slow it down, i'm an old dude.

  • This exact same model strat has been on Ebay for like a year now and it has a big crack right in the back of the neck where it bolts on. Nobody wants to buy it but at least Greg was able to demo an unmolested version of it.

  • @Xcorgi i could fix it within 20 mins....make it perfect again.....

  • Jesus...

  • man, i thought Paul Gilbert's intro was awesome....

  • still impressive after all those years... and he plays without a damper ???

    Greg, you're the best !

  • does anyone know where i can findow hot to play the licks from 2:26-2:50 especially the ones that start at 2:26?

    Thank you

  • is it just me or does that cab driver in the intro sound like doc from back to the future.

  • @metachozoite Because the doc palyed this charachter in the 70's sitcom "Taxi"

  • @FunknGrvn so this is him? (yes i rememebr taxi lol)

  • He probably wouldn't have played as smooth and as fluid as he does now had he not started out as a shredder.

  • I need to practice right now. shit that's ridiculous

  • Love 3:50 - 4:22

  • Greg is amazing and that is a understatement!

  • "Exercises" spelled wrong at 5:24, what's up with that?

  • shit , is that an imprvisation?? i dont think so , some phrases were too much elaborated

  • in one way hugely impressive but in another just no centre or point to it.

  • I can't stop watching part 2:09 -2:20 it's frigin crazy

  • Love the first 4:23 of this video....simply awesome...

  • have a break, have a kit kat ^^

  • VAYA TELA!! Me duelen los brazos solo de verlo, madre mia...

  • @jakial Esto no es nada...

  • @Tori965 Si, tienes razón, creo que mi abuela puede tocarlo mejor...

  • @jakial Fijate a Rusty Cooley, y respondeme mas tarde xd

  • @Tori965 si, pero de ahi a decir que eso no es nada, ya quisieras tu tocar la 10 parte de lo que toca howe.

  • @jakial Ademas este tipo tiene un tono hirrible.

  • bujug dah nih orang maennya kasar bgt

  • oh and the only the person who doesnt seem stoned of their ass in instructional vids has to be gilbert as well. haha.

  • does anyone else think he kinda looks...sounds..and plays like paul gilbert in this video? haha. dont get me wrong. they're both badass but this seems to be a lot different than the other greg howe vids ive seen

  • @asharp12 I WAS THINKING THAT EXACT SAME THING, HE SOUNDS JUST LIKE PAUL GILBERT HERE, BUT IN ALL HIS MODERN VIDS HE SOUNDS LIKE A FUSION GUITARIST, BEFORE HE WAS A SHREDDER, BUT HE NEVER DOES THESE KINDS OF NEO CLASSICAL ROCK LICKS ANYMORE.

  • @TheFigueroa007

Don't speak in all caps. It's not cool and you come across as an inept 10 year old. The reason why you don't see too many Neo-classical shredders is because the genre loss popularity (along with most shred, which is why you don't see many shred solo albums nowadays). Tony Macalpine, another amazing guitarist, sums it up pretty nicely. T-Mac:" Somebody's gotta pay the rent". Joey Tafolla, Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, and all the other shrapnel guys were the greatest to ever live.

  • one of the classic guitar instructional videos...I had em' all...

  • Gee, I just smacked my own face down to the ground, felt down from being lifted up 5 feet up high against wall for 4:36 minutes, ( this solo has lifted me the fuck up).. smoke is coming out from Greg´s guitar, glass breaking infernal guitar solo, Greg Howe I salute you!!!

  • the key of a minor is c major...

  • 0:51 - 4:23.. o.o jesus

  • great how he's not in tune

  • well that's my guitar in the bin

  • Wow.

  • wOOOOHOOOO HM STRAT FUCKING LOVE 80'S HM STRATS

  • Bloody GOOD guitar player! THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!

  • this is such a copy of paul gilberts intense rock

  • @6691alexb Gilbert is a vgood player but im afraid he can't touch greg

  • @mordig spot on mate, gilbert would be the first to admit it to

  • @chromatic1976 deffo pal, I do like Gilbert and he seems to be popular with younger guitar players. I have some younger mates who worship him, then I tuned them into Howe, Di Meola, Frank Gambale and Tommy Emmanuel. Ha!! it nearly blew there nuts off.

  • @mordig good shit, people need to be educated a little, once they open up, a whole new world opens

  • @mordig hey tell me more, i am always looking for new guys to listen too, you should check morse, darren householder, brett garsed, michael fath. let me know what you think

  • @chromatic1976 nice one thanx for that I had never heard of those last three guys. I love listening to talent that I haven't heard b4 I deffo think I will be purchasing sum of there material. Other players who you might have heard of or might not are Vinnie Moore, Tony Macalpine, John Mclaughlin and Jason Becker. One album I would deffo recommend is Michael Lee Firkins self titled first album, it's devine!!

  • @mordig firkins is firkin good, his second album chapter eleven kicks butt also, did you see householder noodle suprise? he kicks ass!

  • uh jazz? really… at the very least fusion but this guy right here anyway is a straight up rocker

  • any tab of the intro???? hahahhahha

  • That dude playing Jim... almost better than Christopher Lloyd!

  • He´s so good that we forget the corny intro...

  • Extra slinky and syrupy, a super silly putty Slurpee..Lots of cartoon material and kix is for kids with yo yo tricks..By Mattel hot wheels and in the mall at hot topics..This guy played eruption before he knew what hammer on tapping was..Seen van halen and seen how eddie played it ,''came home and could not believe how much easier that part of the song was for him

  • @dannyhood66 what the hell are you talking about

  • His style is so different now, in a good way, he has progressed so much.

  • lol YM look like a retard after you watch the intro

  • this guy is amazing, terrible start to a video lesson though

  • He looks younger now than he does here! :D

  • MAN ON FIRE!

  • americas best rock guitar player!!! Ahh how good it was to be an american before now!!!lol

  • god.. the intro is awful

    ahahhaha

  • he was, and is by far the most "musical of the 80's lot

  • im always amazed to see how back than he had is own approach to the guitar .

he's always gets better like holdsworth

    rare type of musician

  • man we had some really amazing guitar wizards risin in the 80's . The must have been something special in the eir in the 80's.

  • @EmotionalShredd ya know back then in the late 70's/80's... us guitar players were rewarded for pushing the limits of physical, musical, and emotional dexterity ... then it all came crashing down with a bunch of flannels from Seattle banging out power chords with their index and pinky ... and unfortunately the ignorance of the populace prevailed as it became a complete sin to excel and become a virtuoso on your instrument. man ... those were the days my friend

  • @joeylodes haha almost sounds like medieval times, I guess history does repeats itself xD I think we're in the renaissance now ;)

  • @joeylodes ...and thats the word

  • @joeylodes I agree.Now it's symbolism, rather than substance.Attitude,instead of Ability.

  • @joeylodes you speak straight to my heart man

  • @joeylodes you are wrong. the 80s were the shred-time.the 70s were the time of the la studiomusicians like larry carlton. the 70s player really pushing the limits of physicality and musicality. the 80s shredder just pushing the physical aspect of the guitarplaying. thats the reason why they are dead. in the 80s everybody shredded the shit out of his instrument. you cant listen to this linear shredding for a long time. thats why the people wanted to hear grunge. musical limits were still pushed.

  • @joeylodes ..by jazzplayer. thats music, and thats the reason why there will always be a group of awesome jazz player. shredding is like a funny thing and impressing for a amount of time. but theres is a lack of music in it. notes in 220bpm 32 triplets are impressing but it doesnt make the music better. get used to it.

  • @joeylodes yah are you kidding me? alice in chains, soundgarden, pearl jam, nirvana some of the best bands came from seattle. They were the ones that saved music from the 80's.

  • @joeylodes you cant blame them its just that glam metal was making heavy metal into shit

grunge tryed to revive the rawness that you got from real heavy metal bands

besides alot of guitarists from grunge bands did more than power chords

mike mccready [pearl jam], the guitarist from malfunkshun, My sisters machine

in fact type in My Sisters Machine - I hate you Theres loads of solos in that song

  • @joeylodes I don't see those days ending...maybe in a popular way,...but who cares?...just cuz it's not pop doesn't mean it sucks..(quite the opposite) ...look at greg, guthrie govan, jeff loomis, they aint bowin out just cus the public eye has shifted to whatever......those of us who still love shredding guitar have more than ever to appreciate!!...they've gotten even better!!

  • @synesthesia67 the days of making a good to great living while "shredding" is what i was referring too. those days are done. yes there are many great players out there today, i know some of them personally … they're phenomenal players … and they're either broke or playing weddings to survive.

  • @joeylodes I think it's always been a hard living playing guitar even when talented...not too much has changed there for me...but yeah...some guys were able to make a killing with hair spray and tights...lol

  • @joeylodes And some people wonder WHY music was so much better back then...

  • Hey bro, a few things, I am from Washington and all the grunge assholes get they're start in Olympia and Elma. Secondly that is most definitely not the truth of all Washingtonions. Jeff Loomis lives here. I am 16 and I practice 15 hours a day to maybe one day become a virtuoso. But I agree, the 90's will always be the lost decade.

  • @joeylodes right you are my friend

  • Still got this on video knocking around somewhere. Excellent intro and cracking Fender guitar.

  • The tapping that starts at 3:49 is amazing, I wish I could do that haha.

  • @shreddeth7 I agree but with a pink guitar? He he

  • the greatest solo of the history.....

  • thats intro is like a bad pornos intro...:D

  • @somoshun There are no bad pornos!!! ;D

  • @somoshun , this intro is great.

  • @somoshun Yeah, it's only missing the banko chi wanka music)))LOL..

  • @somoshun Listen, if you're watching pornos with guys that look like Greg Howe and Christoper Lloyd then there are different issues to be taken care of first.

  • His tone is so like the kid in Crossrodes (Aka Vai), strangely thin for a neck pick-up.

Amazing playing though, so clean and tastey :D

  • I noticed that, too, Anarchy! Very observant, Young Jedi!

  • what chrods does he at 2:18 i tried by ear and this is what i came ot with

AM Em GM DM Dm E7 and finally A
