I like rye in saisons. I put a bit of it my homebrew saison but next time I'm going to add more. I thought it was good but not 'A' material. I have another bottle in my fridge for reviewing I need to get to.
Another great review Chris, personally I'm a sucker for any kind of saison so I'll have to be on the lookout for this one to hit MA.
Quick question: a friend of mine loves IPA's and I forwarded your review of Avery Maharaja to him. He was overwhelmed and wanted to know where to get his hands on one. My question is, would a Maharaja still be fresh if he bought one seeing how they are released around March through August?
@Albion426 Thanks for watching. THere was a batch of Maharaja released in June. I believe it was Batch 14. It wont be super fresh but I think they will release one more batch in Setpish before its all gone for the year
First saison with Rye? You should get your hands on some Saison Rue. I am still waiting to get this one in my area, we are always late with the Avery releases. Cheers
5 Belgian yeast strains? Dang, I had no idea. I had this when I was w/ Ryan at Stone. It was very nice.

@BeerichiTuba Yep, I think some of them get lost in there but for me this beer was a bit too heavy for a Saison

I don't think I've ever really had a Saison, what are three or so brews that are good examples of the style?

@DireAxis If you havent had one I would skip this beer. I would go with Ommegangs Hennepin or Boulevards Tank 7 for amazing American saisons.

@StumpyJoeJr Yeah it was just missing something to be an A beer. Im thinking if it was a bit hoppier i would help the feel of the beer.

I liked this one, but the mouthfeel was a tad too heavy for the style.

@CBABitz Yeah this was a really heavy feeling saison for sure.
