Ahhh, Adverts in games - I remember playing Rainbow 6: Vegas, and "Axe" (America's version of "Lynx" deoderant) being advertised in the street. I was ok with that, it made me feel like the events could be real-world.

GTA, sports, yeah I totally agree. reminders of a real world is conducive to that environment in-game. But if I saw "Drink Coca Cola!" in The Old Republic or League of Legends, I'm pretty sure I'd be put off it.

Just to clarify something here:

1. Saint knew what was coming, didn't really bother him much(It was his hardcore fans causing a ruckus over riots decision to ban him).

2. He has a smurf account, which he played on/streamed on during the time he was banned.

I played a game called Darkened Skye a few years ago. It was basically an ad for skittles and was extremely fun. You pretty much used skittles to use magic and had to kill an evil wizard who horded most of them for years. I wish I could find it on gog. :(

In games like Codemaster's F1 and I bet Fifa too (which I don't play) advertising are a must. It feels so much more realistic to see the same ads on tv and in games. In Forza it irritates me that they advertise Xbox and forza... wtf? advertise pepsi for all I care don't advertise the game which I am already playing and the console on which I am already playing it on. That always distracts me from playing. I loved the fake ads In gta and I loved the real ads from Real gta 3.

I actually enjoy the in-game advertising. It makes games like Madden seem more realistic, and in Need for Speed, the bill-boards are for T-Mobile. I like that it adds a sence of realism and makes the game feel likeyou are playing in a real world.

[Prototype] had quite a bit of advertising. Most of it for Game Stop. But it was a sandbox game and those ads were on billboards. So while I was annoyed with the ads being there just because they were there, it was perfectly reasonable and okay.

I did like, however, that the game connected to the internet and updated the ads shown. Like when the movie Gamer came out the poster was placed on some of the billboards where something else had been before.

I see your position on Saintvicious (SV) and agree but it's not as clear cut as Riot's people claimed...

1) The person he trolled was asked and then begged not to pick jungler by 4 players on his team he disregarded his whole team for his own desire.

2) There was another team mate that did the same behavior as SV but did not get banned.

3) The ban on SV was only for his main account not his ult so he lost nearly no money and the controversy actually made him money overall.

1) The people in his team were probably only doing that because they realised it was SV who was in their team, if he was some random player they wouldn't have cared less.

2) Its a minor offence really, but SV is meant to be a role model (whether he likes it or not, hence the ban.

I definitely agree that the amount of DLC's put in to games is absurd making the players not only pay 60 dollars for the game and 2 months later they add ridiculous downloadables, that makes the people who have no intrest in pay to play have to put up with overpowered players. For example DC Universe, it didn't have it as bad but a year after it was released they added in DLC's because they players were sick of monthly payments. Don't get me wrong DCUO is one of the greatest games Iv'e played.

My favorite in-game advertising was in Mercenaries 2. It was normal, everyday billboards, that a group of communist rebels paid you to blow up (capitalist propaganda). It was a good idea since people who are annoyed by the advertising get the satisfaction of an award for destroying it, and it's far more likely people will look at it, so that they can destroy it, thus giving the ads more attention than they would have received otherwise.

i agree with the TB on the advertising topic, though i also feel that if a company has blatent advertising of a real life product in a game like, minecraft or an mmo like swtor (just examples there are none to my knowledge in either game) then the consumers should be discounted in some way to justify it, meaning a lower price than the standard market rate for games of that genre, or so sort of optional bonus for doing so, like say a mini EXP boost for watching a commercial everytime you log in

so, since he was talking about ads, i have an issue with youtube, the little rectangular ad (i know it's this ad because when i enable adblock and the ad doesn't appear the video is just fine) that you see at the bottom of the video sometimes causes the video itself to sort of spaz out to the right and leave a black space to the left side of the video. unfortunately i forget to disable adblock for quite a few videos afterwards. any help would be appreciated.

@TotalHalibut Concerning the Saintvicious ban. I don't think he really cared about his ban, his fans really blew it out of proportion. He and the rest of the team wanted Saintvicious to jungle because that is his main role, and the main point of Saint's fans ran with that saying that the the other player was actually the troll denying the the better player the role of his choice. I myself totally agree with the ban, and I feel he knew he would be banned, albeit not that quickly.
