  • love the sound of the engine break..... and great job on the Q the more the better!!!!

  • pore pore old Pizza Slut

  • That jake brake sounds choppy. IDK if it's just the camera not being able to pick it up right but it just sounds off. Good response, but if you keep the Q peaked out constantly, it becomes ineffective. It works best when its allowed to wind up and down. I love Q's, but only when they are used correctly. I hope you guys got free pizza out of the deal...

  • Stand on that Q, damn!

  • evidence that Q barks louder than any electric siren

  • i am all for just Q but leave of for a little let it mellow out a bite then crank on it

  • yes!!!finally someone who does the exatly how i wil do it when im a junior firefighter next year!great job, more grovers!ha good vid man

  • you need to lay off that Q man

  • lol damn boy, u guys go thru alot of Qs? let off the button

  • take your foot off the button, holy hell, you guys go thru a lot of sirens if thats how u respond

  • So what was the call for, burnt pizza? =P

  • love the engine brake. sounds like a detriot diesel

  • no it dont....cummins

  • gee a lil Q happy????

  • That sounds beautiful!!!!!

  • Sweet jake brake on your engine! How far are u guys from Telford,Pa

  • @richie5335 this is phillipsburg pa off route 78 in warren county nj haha i can hear my engine in route to a call lol but were out of hunterdon

  • "TURN OFF THE SIREN, ROD!" Classic.... even the firefighters get annoyed once in a while.

  • I love all the profesionals who posted a comment saying everything was wrong about how the sirens were running.

  • That black truck at 1:30 got soooo freaked out! he had no clue what to do!

  • "Q's" aren't suppose to be wound tight continuesly, because a normal persons ear hears only a select few frequency's and sometimes alot of people cant hear it wound tight, when responding we are told to work it a little bit and not just stomp on it. "Q's" only do so much for some. Thats why we have horns and multiple siren channels. Not winding it tight also helping traffic in the way not to easily focus on one sound, rather then a full range.

  • PAfirefighter80 is right. the purpose of the Q is to have it fluxuate up and down. also use the air horns more!

  • PAfirefighter80 is right. the purpose of the Q is to have it fluxuate up and down. also use the air horns more!

  • I agree 100%.

  • Ditto.. Practice some more..

  • Seriously, when you are stuck in traffic, you dont just hold the q down. Let it go and use the airhorns. You'd think the guys holding it down would get tired of that high pitched noise.

  • aye he IS right BUUUUUT i LOOOOVE the fed q no matter how it's being used, gotta admit fed q + air horn rooocks

  • damm man!! and i thought that Q sirens was gonna explode or something! wow!!

  • Nice rig (a Seagrave) but I too disagree with holding the siren. A continuous pitch like that will "camoflauge" itself when you're playing the radio or air conditioner, where if you fluctuate the Q it will stand out more. On my neighboring township's rigs only the driver can control the Q and they all stand on it at intersections while the officers always keep the electronic siren on wail the whole time with sometimes a little air horn; the WORST thing you can do, IMO.

  • Wow learn how to work the federal Q man. You were holding that wayyy too long and steady.

  • geez little happy with the siren? Theres barely any traffic....

  • Looks like what he did, worked just fine to me.

  • The studies I know of state that it's the change in pitch that attracts attention - this continuous high-pitched wail could miss out, and it's hard to tell where the noise is coming from with the constant note.

We only use electronic sirens, and switch from wail to yelp when approaching a busy intersection. And hit the air horn a few times. Horses for courses, use what suits you I suppose!!!

  • you hold the Q too long

  • he isnt holding it long enough

  • You know you're doing a good job if dispatch is telling you they can't hear you over the siren!! :D

  • had that happen more than once

  • That's a hell of a jake brake on that bus!! lol...did you wear the alternator out LOL?!

  • Like CtFdPoSt330 said the Q does not lose distance in relation with speed. The Q, or any mechanical siren for that matter, is a glorified fan which pushed air out in front of it while an electronic siren speaker only puts sound out THROUGH the air and is therefore not as effective in relation to distance as a real Q.

  • let the siren breathe for a minute brother!

  • can i join this fire department

  • Nice trio of mack dumps at 1:56

  • idk if it is just me, but the Q and the "jake brake" just sound AMAZING together in this video!!!

  • ah yes, very great combo.

  • Man a real Q sounds so good. I've been listening to my local FD a bit, and I figured out that they're using the electronic Q2B. It just doesn't quite compare. A real Q is so much louder and so much beastlier.

  • not to mention, the real Q2 doesnt lose distance with speed. whereas regular electronic sirens lose distance, the Q you can have blasting at 70 and still cover as much distance.

  • All members of the public, firefighters, and emergency personnel-The `establishment` has failed in their duty to tell you of this.. Google paddyanddollydotnet and read FIREBURN MEDIA ALERT, tell all your friends and,in case of severe fireburn keep that number in your back pocket 24 hours a day.

  • WHAT TYPE OF ENGINE IS THAT? A CUMMINS?

  • Cummins N-14, 430 HP.

  • is this Hope BC?

  • No, Hope Fire Company of Phillipsburg, PA.

  • Here is what I'm referring to. Type in the youtube address to watch a video and copy and paste this code. It's too bad we cant put up links. Enjoy! 7rVsfiUpgp0

  • I can understand somewhat why the shotgun fireman is sitting on the Q like that which basically is a term called "traffic breaking", but studies have shown on Q's that people can here the downwind better than the upwind. The sound waves travel much much better if you just "bump" the Q rather than lay on it. I'm not saying what he did is wrong, people can just here it better the other way. B&M Superchiefs act in the same fashion, only the are about 15 decibels higher on the downwind.

  • mech Qs and jakes kick ass!!

  • I've heard the electronic Q, and I'm not impressed. I've listened to electronic sirens for nearly 38 years, and none come close to a mechanical siren. Mechanical sirens are louder and sound real tinny compared to electronic sirens.

The best sounding sirens I've ever heard are the early Federal PA15A and PA20A electronic sirens with the deep low-pitched wail and yelp tones.

  • Just curious, what's your opinion on the electronic Q?

  • for one. the Q is the best it gets people out of the way better than any electronic siren ive used and it sounds alot better. also we are right next to it so if it was that bad why would we use it?

  • Besides the Q projects a different message than an electronic siren. An electronic siren basically says, "There is an emergency vehicle approaching" while a Q says, "There is a VERY BIG emergency vehicle approaching." Then the air horns say, "I MEAN BUSINESS!!!!" We have both electronic sirens AND Q's on all our Seagraves, but the electronic sirens are used only for backup in case the Q decides to take a crap.

  • and just how the hell do you expect people to yield then? that's the idea, is to annoy and attract attention... sorry, I'm not getting on a PA and asking politely for people to move with a please and thankyou

  • Forget Powercalls and other electronic sirens, Q's RULE!!! Electronic sirens are for backup in the event the Q should quit or for vehicles that can't handle a Q (Just my opinion). This video rocks!!!

  • Perfectly Put. Same Here!!

  • where is this fire company from

  • Phillipsburg, PA, and it SHOULD be Engine 11-10, which is a 1997 Seagrave pump.

  • is this fire engine number 1110

  • Is this your 1997 Seagrave pump?

  • jezzzz talk about Q overkill. must be a new guy riding that Q all the way their. all well, as long as the new guy winds it back up when your done. lol.

  • WIND THAT BABY UP!!! People can't hear us in the new cars these days. that new guys is workin' it the way you want, winding it down now and again but keepin' the pitch up!

    P.S.- I want that jake-brake!!!

  • I drive tractor trailer through Phillipsburg every Wednesday on the way to Builders Surplus in Bigler. I thought I recognized the town on the video. Nothin like a Federal Q to clear traffic! Great vid from in cab! Thanks for posting!!

  • At last a video without music! Only pure siren and motor sound, thank you very much guys!

  • Nothing gets you through like a Q. NO electronic siren can even come close, not even a Powercall. Q's rule.

  • JAKES OWN!!! we have them on both engines

  • did he drain the battery

  • i love the dispatcher, "cant hear you with that siren blaring". can you say Q overkill

  • Jake brake such as used on diesel big rigs. A Jake brake works by using hydraulic pressure to momentarily open the exhaust valve at the end of the compression stroke, venting off the compressed air into the exhaust system. That's where all the noise comes from. The braking of a Jake brake occurs because of the pumping loss compressing the air, and then eliminating the compressed air "rebound" on the power stroke.

  • They probably had to put out 2 fires. The one they are responding to and the one after the Q blew up.

  • A "Jake Brake" wtf is that lol... I'm no fire engine mechanic but all I know is when my Benz starts to make a noise like that under braking it usually means it's time for new brake pads and/or discs!!

  • A "Jake Brake" is a braking systeme entirely utilized by the engine. Most trucks over 35,000 pounds have them.

  • "Here's someone that HAS NO FRIGGEN IDEA HOW TO USE A FEDERAL Q SIREN."

very true. the ups and downs are what makes the siren , not putting a brick on the pedal. wow.

  • Sounds like that truck could use a brake job!

  • Why? It's a Jake Brake, that's what they sound like.

  • It's just my personal preference, but if the truck I'm riding shotgun in has both a Q and an electronic siren, I would only use the Q; the electronic siren should only be a backup should the Q quit for whatever reason. I hate when people use the Q wit hthe electronic siren on wail. People think there are 2 vehicles approaching when there is only one. At least use the yelp when using the Q with it.

    Just my opinion.

  • This is in PA right? Chester or Lancaster county? Nice vid, don't worry about what some of the guys are saying, my theory is, the more noise you make, the safer you are.

  • Phillipsburg, PA, about 20 miles north of Tyrone in north-central PA.

  • Ah, okay. Some of the major roads looked like ones near me.

  • IF THE Q IS THERE USE IT!!!! we do

  • The cars OBVIOUSLY hear you...they just have no place to go...geez...

  • The ole' Q must have nearly died.

  • GREAT!!!

I love the Sirens... they exist to be used =)

  • Depends on the State according to our light permits in WV if the lights are going and you are in motion you must have the siren going

  • yikes! easy up on it guys.

  • That Q-Siren must have been hot to the touch

  • wow way to clear the traffic ! oh wait there was none. easy with the q ! omg wackers

  • haha pizza hut is on fire

  • Here's someone that HAS NO FRIGGEN IDEA HOW TO USE A FEDERAL Q SIREN. Stick to the electronic ones from now on, ok bud?

  • chill with the siren thats just annoying...no need for it

  • you must ride the ambulance

  • @bowtie89 lol.

  • @bowtie89 no. he's actually right. It's annoying. and it blends in. not as effective

  • That was bright like crystal. Good work!
