  • all that dead leaf mulch helps get healthy gingers.

  • thank you

  • I'm sure you've figure out by now that those pretty little nodes are the flowers :D Love the green foliage and flowers both~ MMm~smells so gooooood

  • Really great idea, I would have never thought about growing ginger. I will look into this. We get very mild winters here in Texas so I should be able to grow some. Just one more interesting thing for me to grow this next season, ginger and peanuts!

  • @GulfCoastJaguarundi I just saw a picture of the flower when it's blooming. I'll have to bring this plant out where it will be seen by us. Right now it's in the back of the building and out of sight/view. Thanks for watching. :)

  • @GulfCoastJaguarundi My main use is for ginger soy salad dressing like at Japanese restaurants. I really don't like it in other stuff too much but that dressing is my favorite. I can make it with powdered ginger but it's much better with fresh ginger. :) I'll have to post that recipe soon.

  • I've never known anyone who has grown ginger. I'm impressed.

  • @KasinH We just brought it inside last night. It's doing well and I'm very pleasantly surprised. I hope to soon use some of it in cooking but am waiting for the flowers to do something. Looks the same still.

  • Very cool Viv!

  • cool ......have to look in to that...don't no if it will take the winters up here

  • ginger, that's cool, I probably couldn't grow it. I don't even know what the heck a rhizome is.

  • How cool is that - looks like blooms coming on! You'll probably want to bring that in out of the cold for the winter - aren't they a tropical plant?

  • @hunt1803 Yes, it's a tropical. I put the planter onto concrete blocks and cleaned the outside which was covered with dirt. After another project (indoors), I'll move it inside if I can't build a small cold frame.
