Hey mate you're driving on the wrong side of the road lol. Awesome scenery out there. Bring your detector next time to them old foundations. Hope the gold pans out for you mate! Oh yeah I like the jacking the rock trick lol HH!
That video is differently going in my "favorites" section. Excellent video! We drove through that area going to and from queenstown. Did not realize how much history was in the area.
@madgoldnz hey thanks mate cheers for all the info..yup I have a couple of Sandy & judy fairservice books they're great! And that website you guys are on is awesome too! I knew about the bedrock thing but man it's like rocking horse shit up there lol theres so much shingle everywhere!! Cold doesn't worry me so I will plan some excursions somewhere else in the winter but I really want to find somehwere off the beaten track but those bloody claim map websites are too hard to figure out whats what
@madsonicboating Those books got me started, they are good, but i wouldn't follow their sluice setup reccommendations. A Book i'd reccommend: "Prospecting for gold" by W F Heinz, it's an older book but very informative, and he gives some good advice on areas/ rivers to try etc. usually one or 2 on trademe.
Soz about all my burbling ppl, As you can see i'm a bloody gold nut. I need a gold fix!!!! LOL :)
I shouldn't be encouraging madsonicboating's gold fever...... It's uncurable......fun tho.
@madgoldnz ok thanks for that...I think I have that book too...believe me I have done a lot of reserach and reading on peoples ideas etc...my trip was planned in 2 days tho so yeah I kinda forgot a few things and was a bit rushed lol...fever me haha nev... um yeah ok !!
The whole advice about dig on the inside bend is tru for big ass rivers like on the West Coast where it floods a lot, but it doesn't apply as much to the ->. Have you read "Gold in your bottle" or any Sandy & Judy Fairservice books?
Your box is going pretty fast, when i was a noob an old guy told me to have it full, and fastish, not fast and shallow. So you probably want your box at least half full, flowing just fast enuf to wash away the gravl dat you put in. Cheers :) (nzgold on the forum)
@madgoldnz sweet as mate cheers yeah that suice box just didn't feel quite right...in saying that it stopped some damn fine gold dust lol I think theres STILL some in the carpet cos I used loop it was all I had :) Cheers MSB
Like your vid, just be careful with the claims thing, apart from the fossicking area at the bottom end, the arrow's pretty well claimed up.
Constructive critisism: If you want to find decent gold in that river, you need to be on bedrock, don't worry about whether the water is slowing, or is rapidy . Those big deep swirly holes, unless you can get to the bottom of them ( U usually can't) you're wasting your time. I can see that the gravel that you're digging in is a long way from the bedrock.
@madgoldnz haha what I NEED is a house bus so I can stay there till I move that damn gravel lol...surely its no deeper than 5 metres hahaha next time I will just purely metal detect I think....got a 4 inch coil on my F2 I wanna try out :)
Love that area of the country however I have not been to that place myself. Great video. I do the same sort of vids on my other channel TheRoamingReliever
