  • Those Bowie Ka-Bar can really take a beating!

  • why do you have a pistol?

  • @Veradel97 Why not?

  • gota say id carry a sawvivor to process the wood. wasting allot of energy

  • Batoning seems like a good way to get wood chips in the eye and in the woods far away from medical help that would suck ! Safety glasses seem to be needed. I think I'll stick to my small axe.

  • I'll bet he could have snapped that tree over REAL EASY :-)

  • Man Travis, you guys look really cool with those knives man.

  • хуета! булатный клинок такое дерево срубает с одного удара!

  • is it easier on the blade by beating the knife through than just hacking like a machete?

  • Travis, buy yourself an axe. It will be a lot faster and easier than the unnecessary abuse you are giving to a fine knife like the kabar heavy bowie.

  • Is it possible to baton straight through a tree from the side if you're strong enough?

  • @Supermassively Haven't tried that. Probably depends on the thickness of the tree. Sounds like fun to try though.

  • @Supermassively I wouldn;t recommend it. I wouldnt put any knife through the abuse of batoning against the grain of the wood. Its just dumb. Having a heavy bowie is great for hacking. Hack the tree in half and baton it along with the grain.

  • @Supermassively

Yes but it puts tons of pressure on the knife that isn't needed. You can do it even if you weigh 100 pounds, but don't expect a very reliable knife when you're done.

  • @Supermassively This tree I believe I could knock down just with my bare hands... for chopping however....

  • glock 23 right

  • @DL9619 Correct.

  • @DL9619 next time try to shoot the tree down ;)

  • subscribed!!! nice knife work i have never sen the batoning technique used to down a tree it was quite interesting! also do you live in the payson area?

  • y not just havk it?

  • How well have those knives held up with the beatings you've been giving them?

  • @MrEhud77 i would like to know too

  • @MrEhud77 They are good as new except some finish from the blade has worn off. I do not have a single bad thing to say about them. I will try to post a video soon showing the condition of the knives.

  • I thought about the bowie but Ive always liked kukris better. Ive always lived and spend a lot of time on the river camping/ hunting and I dont like to take more than one knife into the woods with me. When I found that kabar made a kukri style knife.I immediatley bought it. It is the best built blade Ive ever owned. Anyone looking for a knife that will do everything from chopping down large trees to picking slivers out your hand, the kabar kukri is for you

  • It would've taken a fifth the time with a hatchet.

  • I mean...u have those branches on the ground they r lighter and easier to light a fire on them, why gathering all those logs and massive amounts of wood wasting energy, I believe ur homeless and ur just gathering wood for ur roof

keep up the good job or u'll sleep as u shower

  • @tranglomango your a moron he is doing a knife review thats y he is cutting a tree.

  • @ericvault just kidding moron friend

  • hey, just a question! I'm not a survival expert, I have a job, but I KNOW it's not enough to be a survivor...anyway if u are lost on the woods or you're in any other condition that forces u too return to your primeval nature in order to survive I think the best thing to do is to gather and conserve ur energy to stay strong, lucid and fit...so with all that hacking i belive even if u had eaten a raw rabbit before all the energy u gathered by eating it would be already wasted in that shit

  • @tranglomango They're just showin what it's capable of :P

  • holy shit it's a hurricane coming? God's mad with this guy? Maybe because he's hurting mother nature! Well it's America, maybe a "terrorist" attack is going on! Or a new atomic bomb is being tested! Seriously u shoud wait for a nice sunny day....

  • also the sawvivor saw is a very small light and effective saw. it is very cheap ive seen it from 10 to 30 dollars. nutnfancy uses it in a lot of his videos. it also folds up for easy carrying.

  • i found my heavy bowie kabar for 45$ make sure to use wd40 before cutting down a tree. makes cutting so much easier and protects blade.

  • Appreciate the info on the bowie mate but a folding saw would have cut that little tree in half the time.

  • I take that back if you have the space to take that then go for it but when I'm hiking I just like to bring a five inch blade I think that you do no what your doing it's just not my style but if you can bring that then go for it

  • there is plenty of fallen trees to burn and that knife is way to big for hiking a 5.5 inch blade would work fine you have no idea what your doing

  • @skierdude595 I watched all of your videos and learned a lot. I recommend all my subscribers do the same.

  • @2brothersadventures You are a class act. Some people think there is actually only one way to do things, very sad. Keep up the good work. I have that knife, and for 50 bucks you cannot beat its capability.

  • @2brothersadventures lol, owned.

  • @skierdude595 ok I appreciate that you believe a 51/2 in. blade is suffecient for bushlore but where do you get the Idea that a Bowie is Too Big for Hiking?

  • @skierdude595 YOU SMELL LIKE FISH!!!!!

  • @skierdude595 Some people like a little bit more weight and size. You dont need to say he doesnt know what he's doing.

  • what is the overall length of that knife and how much did it cost you

  • ltc kukri ftw

  • Hey, I really like your videos and I am subing. I just ordered a heavy kabar bowie last night to add to my survival kit. I think it will be really handy. Thanks for the video.

  • I wonder how many people get injured with this silly idea that a knife can replace an hatchett?

  • silly idea? is it silly that this cuts an extra pound off your load? it all depends on your preference but some people dont want to carry that kind of weight

  • Ever heard about using the right tools for the right jobs?

  • sometimes you cant carry all that stuff, its a very common thing for survivalists to use knives for chopping

  • @alleztouschier Yet it's quickly becoming the standard.

I'll agree that a decent hatchet is more effective, as it should be, but several companies are gearing their survival knives towards such uses.

That said, I'm one of the few who are still not convinced by Ka-Bar's heavy bowie as compared to other production bowies such as a CS Trail Master or a Fallkniven NL1 (Tor/Thor).

  • Yeeeeeeehaaaaa ! Yall remind me of me and my brother-Im the chubby one.How long have you used the Kbar bowie-still holding up good? Easy to sharpen? I want to buy soon.

  • dude he's not tryin to chop it down he needs to process the wood

  • thats a very nice blade. But im very lazy and i think i would of used the logs already on the ground.lol but it is a very nice knife good video.

  • Great value, good for whacking trees.Thanks.

  • yeah i have two ordered for a friend and me. cant wait

  • Think this knife would make a good replacement for a machete, as far as gathering small wood?

  • Yes I do. I own 2 machetes and I have found that I like my big knife more. It is easier to use due to its compact size and weight distribution. I seldom use my machete anymore. I have also found the knife to be much more versatile than a machete.

  • I see. My Machete seems to be bent, notched up, and...I failed to sharpen it with a grinder when I was younger, plus the kids around camp are constantly playing with it and that worries me.

  • Ive been considering buying a bowie knife, about how much would one like that cost?

  • About 50 to 60 dollars depending on location.

  • the kabar heavy bowies are only like 40-50 bucks which is a steal and ive only heard great things about them. I want to buy one too.

  • 41.99 on Amazon. Thanks to these nice men and there video im buying one today.

  • now is that the kabar large heavy bowie or the kabar short?????

  • Large Heavy Bowie.

  • JUSTR SWING ON THE TREE U BREAKIT!!LOL

  • no the ka-bar bowie is much to heavy for long term use, i would recomend the KA-bar utility combat version.

  • would you recommend the heavy bowie for a survival knife

  • Absolutely. It is heavy, but if you can handle the weight it will serve you in many tool capacities. It chops wood, splits wood, cuts, scrapes, pounds and anything else you might use a big knife for. I only carry 2 knives for serious work when in the bush, the Ka-Bar bowie and a Frost Mora for fine work. The bowie has a good enough blade to do fine work if you can only take one knife. I won't go out without my Ka-Bar now.

  • it is a fucken survival knife.

  • swing that knife what are you doin

  • batoning, use less energy insures a accurate nice deep cut in the wood.

  • i dont think he needed to batton to chop it own i dont own one but thoes knives have lots of coping power plus i have done trees that size with my ka-bar fighting utility knife

  • cool, im getting a short heavy bowie.

  • its true, doesnt necessarily mean its a bad knife though

  • nicce

  • That "tree" looks like a big twig.. You definitely could have knocked it down without that blade, and a lot faster.

  • not to be an ass but i think he was just showing how to do it, and some little trees like that can be pretty tough bc their compact

  • Nice vids brothers! Wish my brother came along when doing my hikes :(

But hey can't win em all right :)

    Have good one all!

    cheers

  • great videos after this and your heavy bowie review i chose to buy the knife :D

  • Why do you have a handgun on you?

  • because of the giant ants, them eat u when not carry at least a .44 at ur side paw to shoot em point blank between them antennas so them can't dig where them at no more :-)

  • probably just for target practice or a "just in case" of attack thing.

  • :-(

    good one

  • nice knife man. and gun what kind is that? a glock?

  • Glock 23 40 S&W

  • for the bears right? :D

  • please tell me the cheapest place to get that i live in illinois so and keep it under $55 please respond where did you get yours

  • Lol..

  • Comment removed

  • you can buy 1 in ohio just dig 4 miles into the ground

  • Well gathering wood off the ground is not quite as interesting as showing how the knife performs cutting a tree down. Looked sharp. I was thinking of getting one. What size blade do you have. I know there are two different sizes of the Ka-Bar bowie. I love Aizona, but I mainly travel to Tucson. Its suprising that most people dont think it gets cold there.

  • We both have the bigger ka-bar bowie knife. We like the extra size and weight for processing wood for fires. These knives came very sharp right out of the box. They are also easy to re-sharpen, even for me as sadly I am far from an expert knife sharpener.

  • Nice demonstration of the knife's capabilities but to tell you the truth, I would have just used the wood that is leterally covering the ground to make a fire.

  • Look for an upcoming edge of your seat, riveting video of us gathering sticks off of the ground and making a fire with it. You are right, we could have gathered dead wood from the ground, but the "tree" was dead and more importantly it had been raining for several days prior to this small break in the weather. Have you ever tried to make a small quick fire with saturated wood from off of the ground? I would rather harvest a dead standing dry tree. And it's just more fun to get the knife out.

  • The kabar is slightly smaller than the sp5. They are about the same price. When it comes down to it id choose the kabar cause i own a couple and i know they put out great knives. Plus the handle on the bowie is really nice.

  • Seems like a pretty good knife, next time you want to take a gun to the woods, just forget that the constitution, the supreme law of the land guarantees that your right to keep and bear arms shall mot be infringed, Further lets forget the supreme court just upheld that the right to have a gun is an individual right, just forget all that and ask asshat (gbuck1212) if its OK with him if you have a gun.

  • A: because he wants one

    B: Arizona has mountain lions.

  • Wow...hostile answer to a perfectly non-rude response.

    Fuck your mother.

  • And also...I believe the word you are looking for is "you're". If you're going to insult someone, do it right, asshat.

  • oh btw what steel is it? stainless?

  • 1085 carbon.

  • its only 1085 carbon? why not get the ontario sp-5 same size, same weight i think but cheaper and is 1095

  • the blade seems a little dull to me... did u sharpen it at all?

  • The blade is very sharp. It takes some effort to cut dry wood in the forest as the wood gives under the blow due to the ground and other variables. Many people you see chopping wood with a knife do so in a controlled situation, like having the wood secured firmly in a vice. All things act a little differently in the real environment. That is why we advocate getting out and practicing your skills in the real world.

  • how long is the blade ?

  • Nine inches, 14 overall.

  • just started batoning alot easier

  • You will like it. The easiest way to process small firewood.

  • never thought of batoning that way

    thanks

  • We have found that a good large knife makes several camp chores easier, especially fire wood processing.

  • ya i see ppl on youtube chopping with a knife, but that looks alot more easier

  • Oooo watch your head mate! Dead branches and all...

Also when batonning there is a large faction in the knife world that says it's important to keep the handle of the knife lower than the baton. Aka hitting the knife tends to make it go horizontal (handle low, tip up) this is supposed to minimize shearing on the tang of the knife. And what's the gun for??
