Batoning seems like a good way to get wood chips in the eye and in the woods far away from medical help that would suck ! Safety glasses seem to be needed. I think I'll stick to my small axe.
Would you guys say that the ka-bar bowie or a bowie knife in general is the best survival knife apposed to the traditional Ka-bar fighter/utility knife? I'm thinking about getting the traditional full size kabar and a hatchet.
I have a Coldsteel SRK AUS 8 never been used with slight sheath wear on the finish I would be interested in trading for an equal interesting knife. If anyone is interested leave me a message on my page.I dont mind if its been used as long as its not worn out or broken.
@Supermassively I wouldn;t recommend it. I wouldnt put any knife through the abuse of batoning against the grain of the wood. Its just dumb. Having a heavy bowie is great for hacking. Hack the tree in half and baton it along with the grain.
Yes but it puts tons of pressure on the knife that isn't needed. You can do it even if you weigh 100 pounds, but don't expect a very reliable knife when you're done.
subscribed!!! nice knife work i have never sen the batoning technique used to down a tree it was quite interesting! also do you live in the payson area?
@MrEhud77 They are good as new except some finish from the blade has worn off. I do not have a single bad thing to say about them. I will try to post a video soon showing the condition of the knives.
I thought about the bowie but Ive always liked kukris better. Ive always lived and spend a lot of time on the river camping/ hunting and I dont like to take more than one knife into the woods with me. When I found that kabar made a kukri style knife.I immediatley bought it. It is the best built blade Ive ever owned. Anyone looking for a knife that will do everything from chopping down large trees to picking slivers out your hand, the kabar kukri is for you
I mean...u have those branches on the ground they r lighter and easier to light a fire on them, why gathering all those logs and massive amounts of wood wasting energy, I believe ur homeless and ur just gathering wood for ur roof
hey, just a question! I'm not a survival expert, I have a job, but I KNOW it's not enough to be a survivor...anyway if u are lost on the woods or you're in any other condition that forces u too return to your primeval nature in order to survive I think the best thing to do is to gather and conserve ur energy to stay strong, lucid and fit...so with all that hacking i belive even if u had eaten a raw rabbit before all the energy u gathered by eating it would be already wasted in that shit
holy shit it's a hurricane coming? God's mad with this guy? Maybe because he's hurting mother nature! Well it's America, maybe a "terrorist" attack is going on! Or a new atomic bomb is being tested! Seriously u shoud wait for a nice sunny day....
also the sawvivor saw is a very small light and effective saw. it is very cheap ive seen it from 10 to 30 dollars. nutnfancy uses it in a lot of his videos. it also folds up for easy carrying.
I take that back if you have the space to take that then go for it but when I'm hiking I just like to bring a five inch blade I think that you do no what your doing it's just not my style but if you can bring that then go for it
@2brothersadventures You are a class act. Some people think there is actually only one way to do things, very sad. Keep up the good work. I have that knife, and for 50 bucks you cannot beat its capability.
@skierdude595 ok I appreciate that you believe a 51/2 in. blade is suffecient for bushlore but where do you get the Idea that a Bowie is Too Big for Hiking?
Hey, I really like your videos and I am subing. I just ordered a heavy kabar bowie last night to add to my survival kit. I think it will be really handy. Thanks for the video.
silly idea? is it silly that this cuts an extra pound off your load? it all depends on your preference but some people dont want to carry that kind of weight
I'll agree that a decent hatchet is more effective, as it should be, but several companies are gearing their survival knives towards such uses.
That said, I'm one of the few who are still not convinced by Ka-Bar's heavy bowie as compared to other production bowies such as a CS Trail Master or a Fallkniven NL1 (Tor/Thor).
Yeeeeeeehaaaaa ! Yall remind me of me and my brother-Im the chubby one.How long have you used the Kbar bowie-still holding up good? Easy to sharpen? I want to buy soon.
Yes I do. I own 2 machetes and I have found that I like my big knife more. It is easier to use due to its compact size and weight distribution. I seldom use my machete anymore. I have also found the knife to be much more versatile than a machete.
I see. My Machete seems to be bent, notched up, and...I failed to sharpen it with a grinder when I was younger, plus the kids around camp are constantly playing with it and that worries me.
Absolutely. It is heavy, but if you can handle the weight it will serve you in many tool capacities. It chops wood, splits wood, cuts, scrapes, pounds and anything else you might use a big knife for. I only carry 2 knives for serious work when in the bush, the Ka-Bar bowie and a Frost Mora for fine work. The bowie has a good enough blade to do fine work if you can only take one knife. I won't go out without my Ka-Bar now.
i dont think he needed to batton to chop it own i dont own one but thoes knives have lots of coping power plus i have done trees that size with my ka-bar fighting utility knife
because of the giant ants, them eat u when not carry at least a .44 at ur side paw to shoot em point blank between them antennas so them can't dig where them at no more :-)
Well gathering wood off the ground is not quite as interesting as showing how the knife performs cutting a tree down. Looked sharp. I was thinking of getting one. What size blade do you have. The blade is very sharp. It takes some effort to cut dry wood in the forest as the wood gives under the blow due to the ground and other variables. Many people you see chopping wood with a knife do so in a controlled situation, like having the wood secured firmly in a vice. All things act a little differently in the real environment. That is why we advocate getting out and practicing your skills in the real world.
Oooo watch your head mate! Dead branches and all...
Also when batonning there is a large faction in the knife world that says it's important to keep the handle of the knife lower than the baton. Aka hitting the knife tends to make it go horizontal (handle low, tip up) this is supposed to minimize shearing on the tang of the knife. And what's the gun for??
