cool stuff thanks for the post and to the people who made the music... saying this music is repetitive, is like saying that hip hop has to much spoken poetry, that rock and roll has too many guitars and that trippers take too much acid :) The Willz has obviously never taken acid, otherwise he would realise we are all one under the sun, and that to insult another person is to insult himself...
lol, since when is repetitive a flaw... that's what make the track sound so nice. modulations on a linear beat. that's the definition of acid, douchebag
808 State fucking ruled. Most of their stuff still sounds brilliant today.
I wish popular music was still as original and unique as it was back then. I can't imagine Justin Bieber's tunes having quite the same continuing impact in 20 years as 808 State have now. Well I certainly fucking hope not. All the best, Ned.
I seen these guys 3 days ago and ooft did they bring it, they total spoiled us, what a night and straight after burning a 60 odd foot wickerman while it was foggy! Trippy as hell!
"Version" implies that there is a "precursor" track common to both.
ie. "Your version of the story", "My version of the story".
808 - Flow Coma came first. Richard D James made a Great remix of a seminal acid classic that has a darkness that other acid of the time couldn't touch. Both records deserve respect as I'm sure you would agree.

To those of you playing the "repetitive bullshit" card, it's supposed to be! It's acid! It's supposed to be something hypnotic that "puts you in a trance", and that's why it's repetitive!
@auroranoise Yeah, repetitive. As if rap, country, hip hop, classical, jazz aren't repetitive. Let me tell ya, if you don't like 'em, one of those pieces goes on forever.
the 80's were funny I went from phycobilly to this.must have been the pills, and now I am into hard industrial metal the older I got the harder my tastes got.
I was lucky enough to be around for the whole Acid house thing, Newbuild still stands up today, headhunters being the best track in my opinion. Having said all that 808 State where shite after Gerald left.
They knocked out 808:90 and ex:el after gerald left, both classics. personally I think they went a bit shit after martin price left, not gerald. Ive got a couple of EP's from Price under his 'Switzerland' guise from about 90/91 and they are both fucking amazing pieces of electronica
Fun fact: The 808 state site shows pics of their setup when they recorded this album. From what I remember what you're hearing is a Roland TB-303, SH-101 x2, TR-808, MC-202, possibly a TR-606 and probably some other things. See for yourself. Again, it's on their site last time I checked. Definitely explains why it's such a busy track. :)
How come 808 State never do any of their classic acid like this at the festivals? Imagine them pulling this beauty out at Bloom or Glastonbury, it would blow everyone away. All we get is the pop comercial stuff.
