Im from a strong catholic background, and it's something thats often corrupted, misinterpreted or misrepresented. I think this song describes the core values that appeal to me in the faith; selflessness, humility, peace, acceptance and frollo represents the bad side of catholocism
I feel like an outcast in my own family... Wanting to follow the call of god and become a nun, but my family doesn't like the thought of their daughter never getting married or having children. They aren't catholic, so they aren't able to see it from my point of view.... So yes, I do feel very much like an outcast.
@twilightnephilim19 please don't give up. I understand how you feel, but always try to follow the desires of your heart. The world needs people that work for light and love and I can guess that you're one of them. God needs you, so try your hardest to do what you dream. Lots of blessings, love, hope and happiness to you :)
@twilightnephilim19 lmfao, your parents can't force you to marry and have kids. i don't want to marry or have kids either, my parents dont like that thought, but wtf can they do? nothing
Very good point. I Like these disney movies where they actually had a message with them. now it's all just souless CGI. Bring back animated cartoons drawn by hand.
Today my priest preached about when a leper man fell to his knees and asked "lord, if it is your wish, please make me clean." Jesus, moved with pity, said. "I do wish it. Be made clean." This song reminds me of the leper man. Though he was shunned as an outcast, he bravely put his faith to the test and humbly asked the Lord to heal him. How amazing it that we can come before God and ask for such things, and he grants the wishes of our hearts?
I totally agree! I didn't understand the whole concept of the movie when I was a child. When I watched it again recently, I appreciated the movie even more than I did as a child. Good times :)
@SuperPeanutify Good times indeed~ *I listen to this every time I go onto YT now* Nowadays I think if anything should be written into history later in life, this song should be included.
I think is only this is only showing my views on a daily basis...
As a child you don't really understand the meaning, but as we mature and re-listen to such beautiful songs, you finally understand the message that can applied to everyday struggles in society...
And only with Disney songs shall I rant this much about life...XD
Growing up Mufasa was my father, Growing up Bambi's mother was my mother, Ariel was my sister, Peter pan was my younger brother, Hercules was my older brother, Esmeralda was my aunt, The Genie was my weird uncle, Woody&Buzz were my best friends, Baloo&Bagheera were my babysitters, The Dalmatians were my pets, Growing up Disney was my family. I'm proud to say I am a 90's kid. I know we probably can't do anything but if you had this childhood and want your kids to as well, please repost this
She's one of the most influential women in Disney movies to me, because she fought for what she believed was right and sacrificed herself for her friends.
I've read the book and seen the movie, and I gotta say, I adore the movie more than I do the book. And not because the books full of older terms I'm not totally familiar with. It's because the Disney version has this beautiful soundtrack and a happy ending. Thank you:)
There, I removed my "Spam"with 44 likes. I just want to say that I was merely expressing my opinion about something in the way I saw fit. I wasn't saying YOU felt that way, so I'm not sure why you cared to comment.P.S. My post never stated that any of those movies were from the 90's merely that I was- and since I was born in 91 that claim is perfectly valid. By the way, it's December, go do something nice for someone instead of trying to insult someone you don't even know.
please help my people, the poor and down down trod...
i thought we all were the children of God...
okay i'm in college and haven't seen this in years, so i'm sitting in a dorm room with my friends watching this and i burst into tears at that line..... and guess what, i'm not ashamed
@XainRussell That's because it's not really about god. Hell the original story was about the corruption of church in government. It's a song about selflessness in a person who has nothing and wants to use whatever power she can to help her people from a government that hates and oppresses them
Love this song, Ive been praying for the outcast. I know what it is like to be an outcast and I'm glad I have meet people who pulled me out from my loneliness
I feel sad when I listen to this song, mainly at the second verse because I feel like my prayers are selfish like theirs. Her prayers are pure, while mine are selfish.
@mcmptn All right first of all I'm NOT religious 'kay? Secondly I listen to this song when I'M SAD and I FEEL LONELY! 'Cause I feel I don't BELONG any where... understand? Good!
@WickedLadyProduction 1.) Okay. Like I said, don't feel I'm forcing anything on you. I'd never do that to anyone. 2.) Sorry if my last comment caused you any offense. 3.) Yes, I understand. Sad and lonely people need somewhere to belong. I feel that way too sometimes.
I definitly think this soundtrack should've won an academy award. Yes it was nominated but lost to "Emma." I honestly think that hunchback of notredam deserved that award.
Demi Moore is just fantastic as the voice of Esmerelda. This entire movie was cast perfectly! It's jsut such a beautiful, mild version of Victor Hugo's classic novel
I don't know why people are so obsessed with fame and glory. I have never seen the... attraction to being famous I guess. Money, I can understand, as you need it to get food/shelter/clothing/water/etc.
Anyways...Esmerelda's voice is amazing. <3 I wish I could sing like her.
@Eliva Don't jump to conclusions. It could have been that one outcast that got no help from God... Or the song could have been so powerful that the person who disliked it fell into fatigue and thought dislike meant DIS-I-LIKE.
@ElizabethTurner101 I sang this at my choirs end of the year concert that just so happened to be disney themed this year and it took a long time for me to be able to sing it without getting chocked up

This is an "I Want" song, where the singer wants nothing for herself.
And she isn't even christian. That's why this song (and the movie it's in) are among the best Disney has created.
