  • "Whizzing away along the track, clickety-clack, clickety-clap..." I came here just to here that song. Love this movie!!

  • @paintmelovely me too! Vocal quintet extraordinaire not just the voices but because you believe them.

  • it's too bad that i saw Beyonce's version first cuz i feel like i kno what's gonna happen as the movie plays, but i still love what i'm seein' and these were the days where movies were all about big screen magic! i love this version as much as i love Beyonce's version! Carmen is such a fun story!

  • I had no idea Dorothy was soooo pretty! and eeew.. Diahann Caroll's hair! lol

  • I love heatwave

  • I just found out that the guy that played Husky Miller (Joe Adams) was Ray Charles Manager....

  • Dorothy Dandridge was soooooo beautiful!

  • I did this show in my school :D

  • @Robloxtiarnan I wish I could do the same.

  • At first I didn't really see a resemblance between Dorothy Dandridge and Janet Jackson. However, looking at 3:06-3:10. I sure do now.. Wow!!

  • @hotsugargirl When I was a teenager I use to dress and wear my hair just like Dorothy Dandridge in this movie I grew up thinking she was the most beautiful woman in the world.

  • @HairH2O Yes, I definitely agree that she is a beautiful woman, but do you agree that Janet Jackson favors her a little?

  • @hotsugargirl She does some what.

  • @hotsugargirl Yeah, like in poetic justice, but without those thick as eyebrows. lol

  • "the air is getting mighty unconditioned around here" lol

  • weren't feelin diahann carrol get up in this film but, still beautiful. my grandma still watches recordings of the show she started in, in 1968 which is julia. my mom loves claudine espically when she beats that girl with the brush when she found out that she was pregnant.

  • 1:56...so that's where that tune is from

  • I LOVE Diahann Carroll, but her hair is this movie is not flattering.

  • I was just a little girl when I first saw that swirl of red on the screen. I knew nothing of what was to come...Bizet's dazzling melodies. The marvelous lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein. And then...and then...Carmen herself...beauty & superb acting. When I saw Harry Belafonte blow Carmen's toes dry,I knew I was growing up. I adore everything about this perfect movie. So happy to keep it alive.

  • I just love this part with the arrival of Husky Miller. It's great music. The entire cast of people with similar complexions to my own has always made me feel connected to this movie. It's a movie brilliant with top notch stars, performers - Dorothy, Dianne Carroll, Harry, Pearl Bailey, Brock. I grew up watching them and believe me, they were all ahead of their game. And Dorothy was my matinee idol, I tried hard to look like her when I grew up! I didn't stand a chance :D

  • Dianne Carol

  • this movie shoulda got more recognition

  • Ugh, childhood memories :')

  • can we never stop this racist shit, and enjoy the wonderful talent these performers had ,this has to be one of the most enjoyable movies of all time, the translation of Toreador lyric is brilliant ,and Pearl Baily should have received an Oscar for her role, there should be a special Academy formed to honor artists posthumously, Bobbysnr @ g mail Dublin Eire

  • Dang they sold Carmen for a bottle of champagne, what great friends they are.lol.

  • @jparhum13 and diamonds and furs lol

  • is that diahann carrol?

  • @shadet541 Yes it is.

  • i love how this film incorporated race issues from america in the 1940s into carmen. the original carmen is a gypsy and gypsies still suffer discrimination in europe. all the suffering and its response fits very well for opera. not condoning discrimination or suffering. it is part of the human condition and the best artistic efforts seem to be a response to suffering.

  • all i could say is tht im almost 20 and i love seein black women like this in flim....smart,charming,beautiful, and funny....not ghetto stereotypes tht the media would love to show to younger generation of black people.....insted of stuff like this and for the most part race is all around and u can find it anywhere and if u dont see color then u dont see me at all!!!!

  • i love my old black movies.. they were the best. just look at the hair no weaves ...just natural beauty

  • all the women in this movie are very beautiful and i love what they're wearing

  • Wonderfull. Much better than the opera classic version.

  • lots of folks in here who should have been more famous

  • To hell with Beyonces carmen bullshit this movie is a classic I love this movie Dorothy Dandridge is beautiful and talented actor taken away to soon

  • the women in this movie are very, very beautiful. thanks for the upload. this shows that african american women can do more than shake a booty in today's videos. what happened to this world?

  • Love this movie....Dorothy Dandridge was a perfect Carmen, feisty, sassy and absolutely gorgeous. Everyone in the movie was beautiful classy and I love the women's dresses of that time. And OMG is Diane Carroll like a teenager in this movie or what, so pretty and still is!!

  • ahhhhh the toreador song! <3 <3 <3 how did they ever translate the carmen opera into this? bravo!!

  • Its good to see an african american movie without a ghetto, misery, drug dealers, crackheads, pop lockin, weed smokin, cussin, life dont go my way so i have a proplem with the white man type of movie. We constantly complain about the sterotypes people put on us but look at what is representing us today!!! We are a living contridiction

  • @ericatate22

i know...this movie makes me sad. i just don't get what happened to african americans at all.

  • Dorothy resembles young Janet Jackson

  • I love this movie

  • i love this movie they picked a perfect carmen

  • I have problems with this movie, like the fact that joe left his sweet wife to be with that TRAMP, and of course the stereotypes...But Great movie!

  • wow everybody was smoking. lol

  • Wow! What a musical! Tyler Perry eat your heart out!

  • Frankie AKA Pearl Bailey looks like Queen Latifah ;)

  • @Iceickled712

Queen Latifah should play Pearl Bailey in a movie one day.

  • a tad bit of trivia: durin' the year that dorothy dandridge was nominated as best lead actress she was also the FIRST black to present an award at the oscars in the category of best film editing.

  • i know alot of you guys are sayin janet jackson and halle berry favors dorthy,,,but what about tiearra marie? at the 3:11 mark i swear i thought i was looking at teairra mari wow.

  • i think i like this one better than the one w beyonce

  • @adfvssl011 Well, yeah. Beyonce's was crap... lol

  • I think the ties are fantastic!

  • Their ties must have been beyond tastelessness even then... *shudder*

  • Sad to say that African-Americans never got the reconition for the awesome movies they made! Dorothy, and alot of these beautiful talented Black women should of received Oscars for the work they did! We should salute them and honor them for their great contributions to film!

  • @chino1922 Don't forget about the men!!

  • I didnt forget the men! I said African Americans! But I went on to mention Women because this is about Dorothy D.

    Sorry for not clarifying that!

  • @chino1922 AMen dat is so true i agree

  • @chino1922 Dorothy was nominated but was up against some heavyweights of her time like Audrey Hepburn, July Garland and Grace Kelly, who won the Oscar. Race did had a role to play in it though but give her credit for competing with the legends as she is one herself.

  • @chino1922 This movie ain't even the tip of all that we have done great !!! thats hidden because of jealousy ! . All this movie proved was the complete obvious ! that we are some great ass people point blank secretly the envy of others .

  • @Antwansuperstar21 ..Dont tute your horn too much! All I said was how some of the black actors were just as great as the others! I didnt say All the black movies were the shit! I'm saying in my opinion I think they should of got reconition for the ones that where good! I'm not envy of another race in the least bit, I just like great movies! Take a compliment when you get one!

  • @chino1922 , I don't have to tute any horn whoever you are !! And i could care less about what you think because it doesn't matter who the hell are you? I got where you where going with your comment i also didn't say all black movies were great no one is perfect yet my people are great and that for more reasons than a damned movie good day.

  • @chino1922 , I also need no damn compliment from you im not in the damn movie thank those who were how ignorant was that comment ? I never mentioned race because it doesn't even exist i was just making a solid point that can be backed up !! you don't mistreat people who you don't think can beat you at your own game the truth goes deeper than that.

  • @Antwansuperstar21 ..Who gives a fuck! Dont comment on my comments! Its always idiots like you that have to say negative shit! Especially when my comment said it all! Next time keep to yourself!

  • @chino1922 , I don't give a fuck lol. And i simply let you know my deal !! . If you didn't want' people to comment on your sad ass comment don't convey pity because we don't need it you should have it for those then and now that allowed the shit to happen and go on because you reap what you sow.

Onj the flip side you stand corrected as i have read that someone let you know that Mrs Dandridge was nominated for a oscar but no matter her gifts a beauty if she wasn't a maid she wasn't going to win.

  • @Antwansuperstar21 ..This comment had nothing to do with we! MF your not making movies! Cant give a compliment or say anything cause there always one to stand up and play the race card!

  • @chino1922 , Your the mf asshole and you don't know what im doing... Who the hell is talking about race card when race is a made up concept by racist in the first place ? Are you really this inane ? This is fact and the truth that you8 can't deny you fool JIM CROW JUMP we weren't treated fairly and thats the truth that still remains race card has no play in that.

  • @chino1922 , Oh yeah your the idiot...

  • @Antwansuperstar21 ..If you would of kept your mouth shut, we wouldnt be having this conversation! Enough said!

  • @chino1922 , I don't have to keep my mouth shut !! you keep your damn mouth shut with your ignorant ass ENOUGH SAID.

  • @Antwansuperstar21 ...LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @chino1922 , lmao ? ok if thats how u feel good day.

  • @Antwansuperstar21 .....Actually this got out of hand! Will squash it! Good Day!

  • THIS is what anamorphic widescreen (CinemaScope, Panavision, etc.) is for! Long takes with deep depth of field. Not 10 second close-ups like today in Hollywood, with people's necks and foreheads cut off. THIS was filmmaking.

  • The lady in the purple dress and the short haircut looks like my auntie.

    I gotta call her!

  • Pearl Bailey

  • "Stand up & fight until you hear the bell. Stand toe to toe, trade blow for blow." Wish we could get all our politicians into the Ring. Let them slug it out & show what they're made of! Who REALLY has the courage of his stated convictions. That's what my local Sinn Fein Cllr did for charity last night. Fair Play, John !!!

  • LOOK AT DIAHANN CARROLL SHE WAS 19...

  • whereeeeee

  • in the red... or burnt red or orange... whatever color that is... she's fine as hell...

  • yea she was talented too

  • I like the torreadors song. :-D
