  • @18randomly WOW! OH MY GOD! I WAS LIKE...WOW! OH MY GOD! (just kidding, it's Google.)

  • boycott the NFC from the NWO

the next will be the RFID to enslave the humanity.

  • Why aren't these guys on TED?

  • They are google team and using Apple's product....sarcastic..

  • @henry10201020 Maybe some people simply takes Android vs iPhone war too much seriously. In reality they really don't mind each other

  • i give it a year until hackers put some booster on their phones and they can just steal money off you as they walk past you.

  • @wrathallll NFC don't need to work non-stop or distribute card data all the time, this can be easily secured make user turn on the app and hold something to transmit data.

  • @ShadowriverUB hmmm, maybe so.... but there will definitely some security issues. EVERYTHING that involves money, crime follows, everything that utilises technology....gets hacked..EVERYTHING

  • @wrathallll fact

  • @wrathallll and yet we use online banking on trojan fest that windows is :p

  • @ShadowriverUB lol, i dont. last years worldwide fraud was an estimated....(drum roll please) ......... $388 billion. nice!

  • @ShadowriverUB sorry, not world wide fraud..just BANK fraud.!

  • such fucking possibilties for advertising...this is going to make bank

  • MACS? why? just why??

  • @TheSpeedyos because at least it's Unix based :p

  • @fortysixfish

they could use ubuntu! or maybe even some punk ass version of linux they made by themselves!? lol...im over reacting ;P

  • Android Beam.

  • すごい!すごい!近づけただけでアドレス交換できるんだ。www

  • WTF? They use Macs?

  • @juliandeal93 So? It isn't microsoft.

  • @juliandeal93

jup osx and linux they´ve been doing that for ages.

  • really interesting.

  • They lost the slides at the beginning because they are using a Mac.

  • Damn he's wearing my robots shirt! D:

  • Are these features out yet?

  • Also what happens if you hug somebody and your phone touches?

  • your comparison between QR codes and NFC is a joke. QR codes are faster but you should install a better qr reader and have a default browser set.

  • I love how at 50 minutes the guy says they arent partnering with anyone for mobile payments, then the next week later, Sprint and Google announce their partnership.HAHA

  • nfctags.ro nfc tags provider

  • @tuazoncjtech we don't give a shit. Nokia don't have that much phones with NFC. Lots of Android devices getting NFC and made it better than nokias NFC.

  • > #NOKIA IS FIRST WITH #NFC #TECHNOLOGY!

  • Jeez, tough crowd...

  • were do we get NFC sticker!!!

  • Jeff's a robot, 'sticker...on...shoulder, Jeff don't like"

  • @nahsirah i imagine a group of little kids on a trip and the teacher scans every children with her phone

  • This could be awesome for keeping track of hardware in a server room or office environment. Perfect for phones.

  • wat office ? is there any contact info

  • Is NFC water proof?

  • Anybody know if they have the slides for the presentation available for download somewhere?

  • Do somebody knows if it is possible to block any attempt to write on an NFC tag?

  • With NFC

  • Google is planning peer to peer multiplayer and app sending on their own android game center for android 4.0 ICS. This fall.

  • luv the "start at search term" feature...

  • Imagine what the NFC could do. Google Wallet was announced yesterday and it has multiple credit cards in it, Think if Google made a keyring application the same way and we used NFC to unlock doors in houses, offices, and hotel rooms.

  • @TheOverheardNerd Id rather have something harder to steal for my house. Iris scan.

  • I tried so hard to get into this session!

  • Where can we get NFC tags?

  • this is the most interesting topic on the google io!

  • Are they seriously using a Mac?? APPLE WIN!

  • @BigLejf Apple win? After theese new features Apple need all support they can have :)

  • @haresh2094

Sure some cool features but im not worried about Apple and i dont think you should be either

  • @BigLejf I'd guess more than 50% of Googlers user Mac, and most run OS X on them as well. This goes for the majority of west coast tech companies I think (though I haven't visited enough to really know).

  • @mykothopea 50% of all google users use Mac? Is that what you're saying. Because Mac doesn't have that kind of market share yet. It's pretty much impossible, unless you're counting number of searches and Mac users google alot, though I don't think there's a big difference there. Your guess seems unlikely.

  • @SnoweyMan111 No, sorry - "Googlers" is a term typically used to refer to those who work at Google, not users of Google products (which is basically everyone on the internet in some sense)

  • @mykothopea Oh, didn't know that. The grammar confused me "50% of googlers user mac".. yeah.

But I think most tend to take Mac's for slideshows, as it's supposedly simple. But I have no experience with mac in a talk really. Don't know why. But I doubt they use them normally.

  • google using apple computers?

  • @xBuzz996 Google use WIndows would be better how?

  • @colornine84 lol thought wrong XD mixed google with microsoft XD

  • @Ekhattar whats the big deal. Apple and google are good buisinessmates ;) (googleApps on iphone etc.) The browser is faster on mac, thats better for presentations.

  • wtf apple laptop on the table ! :@

  • swap YOU with MYPRIZE and then press the return key

  • @4pattygalata4 what? in the address bar? what does this do?

  • @KOLTON545 Hahahaha apple fag, you can't spell iPhone OS. Android ftw.

  • @sergiodost89 you know nothing about android and Google. So shut up.

  • Lol, looks like jeff wanted that scan sticker on his "other" front ;0)

  • hahahah!!!! epic fail! apple laptop!

Losers! Android is nothing!!! google suks!

  • @sergiodost89 Stupid troll :P

  • @sergiodost89 only an apple fagboy would try to make an argument about this

Google aren't hosting I/O to try and win 'wars' between tech companies. If Apple had any sense/maturity they'd act in a similar way, acknowledging their competition instead of pretending like they're the only company out there doing anything & putting up the ol' reality distorsion field

  • to be honest, these functionalities have been available since 2007-2008. The problem is finding a standardization and improving adoption, since so far apart from the Nexus S there are maybe a couple of Nokia phones with NFC support.

  • look like a great tech :) hopefully Apple and other popular manufactures will jump in to it too

  • Didn't WebOS show this feature back in February?

  • Interesting, they are using apple.

  • @erzzzz not really. apple laptops != ipad or iphone

  • @erzzzz whats so interesting about that?

  • Ha!! Macbook :D

  • @zilifilm so...?

  • 0:24:43 scared mee

  • @incredible008

    pussy

  • @hahftmxpknvuu : privacy concerns at 39:28

    watch before, comments after

  • So how long before hackers manages to boost the signal in order to steal data from peopl?

  • @hahftmxpknvuu but there is going to be a way to enable and disable it

  • @hahftmxpknvuu Yeah and then the government will control our minds. Get real and quit panicking (and learn to spell the word "people"). As the speaker explains in the first 3 minutes of the session, the maximum range is 10cm.

  • @hahftmxpknvuu can you imagine how hard that would be?

  • @hahftmxpknvuu Hackers do not steal data. Those are CRACKERS. Hackers don't mean security breaker. Search for "richard stallman on hacking" and read what really an hacker is from an HACKER point of view. Quit the propaganda. Be informed!

  • Palm ripped off again. I would say I felt sorry four them but if they haven't learnt their lesson about showing a product an age before you release it then they deserve to be pipped to the post by more aggressive platforms

  • @KOLTON545 no it doesnt

  • @pinkerester IOS FTW

  • @KOLTON545 cool story bro

  • NFC ≥ wireless QRcodes

  • is that a MBP? What about chromium os?

  • @Joshloft chromium os is basicly a browser. I don't think a browser can pull off what an OS can do

  • Q&A was quite good.

"What can you tell us about other devices in the near future that support NFC other than Nexus S" Answer: OEMs 44:26

~"What are the missing pieces to offer a compelling proposition for NFC payments"

Answer: Industry needs to move to NDEF / P2P 46:45

~"Is google going to partner with anyone to bring nfc payments mobile" 49:46

Answer: "For mobile payments, nothing to announce."

  • "Why NFC?" starts 5:00.

Nice work with this extensive technical demo of NFC on Android. I'm looking forward to a proliferation of devices supporting this technology.

  • *Cough* = "Ow!"

On a serious note, this was really interesting, thanks for posting!

  • GREAT Concept, But Kind Of Concerns Me...

  • From what i heard NFC is used in pretty much all smartphones in Japan, that reminds me that all the phones are "Smartphones" in Japan. Its been there for years.
