I'm trying to experiment with both digital and traditional mediums, and I've tried Prisma markers for inking (which I wound up losing), and you can't do long and fast strokes like you seem to be able with whilst using Sumi or India ink. Markers end up looking sketchy, rough, shaky, and things of that nature if you're not used to it.Like, they're good, but it's hard to get that same level of finesse. I just worried that using an Ink + nib or brush would be difficult, or maybe it's all in my head.
I love sumi ink. It's so black, and smells so wonderful. I got a sumi brush pen but it doesn't smell good, like when you take the time to grind the stick ink in the little inkwell. There's a perfume, Comme des Garcons 2, which smells exactly like it. Wonderful.
I use Speedball India ink, and the ink is very dense , Depend's on what brand of India ink you use. I also use Chinese ink and I use an inkstone with an inkstick and make my own ink . You should check it out

That ink demonstration was great, and very helpful, but what really got me was how fast --- and vividly -- your drawings came to life. They really do transcend the page and get a response. Just amazing.
i use india for dark grey values that have a different feel than sumi that is watered down a bit to same value .the india looks cool with a blue ink stain to it , but for black only use real sumi
hey man thanks for posting this :] im a huge alex pardee fan so last night i attempted to make a brush and ink piece. i knew there was somehting up with the ink causei was watching a video of alex and the lines just seem much thikcer... just so perfect. i was using india ink... higgins actually, the exact bottle you showed in the video. you explained everything about sumi that i thought there was to know, my guesses were correct, thicker, not so thin a washed out like india. thanks man!- J.
What I want to know is how the heck do you get your brushes to hold the ink as long as you do? Mine go dry so quickly, it's irritating, I just don't understand.
I can see the different uses in both inks. I've actually never used sumi ink, but when I ink I tend to try and have very clean lines so I'm sure I would prefer india (or just micron pens considering the troubles i mentioned keeping the ink on the brushes, also I'm lazy)

This video made me cuss like a sailor, because I just realized how much time I wasted using technical pens.

@BrandonNielsen87 I feel you, Brandon. When I switched I felt like I was left behind "Sumi, where have you been all my life"

Thanks you so much. That just made my day. I draw everyday, so it is inherent to me now.

I agree. I will have to check out blue ink stain. I usually us Dr Martins' watercolor when doing colours.

What? That makes me laugh. Please, do explain?

That's 'cause sumi ROCKS!! It also makes better washes than india, warmer and denser
