Well that would ruin it for those who've yet to see the end. However, there is a Wiki article about the "Mythology of Carnivale." It should answer your questions.
There are only 24 episodes. So the end with Sophie being all weird is it. However, the creators have announced some of what they were planning for the next seasons. You can find that information on Wikipedia if you look.
Johnny Meah, the carny expert who gave his expertise to the show, has gone on to help create Carnivale Lune Bleue, a month-long carny experience in Ottawa, Ontario.
This is the genuine thing - Ten-in-One freak shows, Cirque du Soleil trained acrobats, vintage restored Ferris Wheels and wooden carousels, a giant snake show ... the works!
If you're gonna in Ottawa this summer and are a fan of Carnivale, you'll definitely want check this out.
Great promo for a show that was just too ahead of the times, and died way too young. I think most people had trouble with how dark and disturbing it was...personally, I think it's sad how others can't seem to handle something so unique. Anyway, fantastic video of one of the best shows ever made :*)
Yeah it's a bit boggling that this got canned. Excellent writing, casting, acting, set and costume. I wish shows like this would start getting broadcast by independent Internet TV companies, instead of being at the mercy of bureaucracy, pressure groups, "family" advocacy groups, and corporate sponsorship. I have a hunch that's why it got canned. Nip/Tuck almost got canned for the same reason, but Sony stuck with them, and so the show went on.
I heard that another reason it got canned was that it was insanely expensive to make. Each episode was a couple million to produce. It was excellent quality, of course - but with quality comes expense, and HBO just didn't think the expense was worth it after the second season.
The reasons you named are also probably true, though. O.o It sucks that that happens so often.
Another 'American Gothic' bites the dust .... and what are we left with ... reality shows, talent (less) 'instant fame' shows, makeovers, freaks, bread and circuses, silly soaps, docu-dramas, and edited rehashed 'news' programs ... 'Carnival' is dead, and so too is 'television'.
Hey! great vid.
