  • "both had trials at west...bromwich...albion"

  • Apart from the genius of the sketch, the acting and the script, Hugh Laurie's bass line slapping away..... definitely in my top 10. :):):) "Barrel of a knife"

  • "my knees go weak for this" xb lol

  • I feel like each time he crosses the atlantic ocean he loses his comedy powers and gains drama powers.... so now the question stands: what would happen if he took the long way from england to america?

  • He looks like Steve McQueen in 'Bullitt'.

  • You need a new ballcock

  • "Certainly came prepared, didn't you"

"I prefer to put it this way; I certainly came prepared, didn't I?"

BAHAHAHAHAHA :D Ahhhhh comedy gold :D

  • Hugh looks like Toby Turner xD

  • IT FINISHED ITS OVER ITS FINISHED IT S COMPLETELY OVER

  • DAMN. Hugh Laurie's american accent used to be terible.

  • Those two should sooooo do the adaptation of Laurie's "The Gun Seller"!

  • Laurie's American accent was soooo weak back then... ;D

  • @mustaine75 It was a spoof of all those awful American 'cool undercover cop' shows, it was supposed to be bad :D

  • @mustaine75 It's not an American accent, it's the sort of Americanised inflection used in British series' like Department S and Jason King by ITC. Hugh's accent here has more of an Australian twang than anything.

  • The poor man's Monty Python?

  • @wwwonderful No.

  • @wwwonderful errrr no. Just as good, if not better.

  • @vymmas There's nothing original about this kind of tired-out, same-old, same-mold British 'humour'

  • @wwwonderful I suppose it depends on how much importance you place on originality. Once a style of music is invented is it then wrong to make another song in that style because it's not original? This sketch IS original in so much that it's never been done before. The style might be similar to Monty Python but it doesn't make it any less funny or worthy. I could get on stage and burp into a microphone for 30 minutes. Original? Yes. Worthwhile? No.

  • @vymmas You've just described the level of British humour

  • @wwwonderful Sorry to butt in, a whole month later, but this might be old now but it wasn't at the time.

  • foreman , cameron , taub , thirteen , chase , wilson , cuddy and four Princeton plainsboro nurses disliked this xD

  • Both fans of west brom XD

  • Genius but yanks should check blackadder goes forth for the best of fry and laurie IMHO

  • this would make a sick BBC cop show :D

  • 11 people were only given economy class flights to Chichester!

  • staring down the barrel of a knife! haha!

  • give us back hugh, america!

  • @hockstrap NEVER!!!!!!! HE'S OURS NOW FOREVER!

and we have a plan to abduct Fry and convince him to do another show with Laurie that we won't let air on british television!

  • @hockstrap i think hugh has become a global star now and i must say that he is a very talented british comedian, but with a global reach.

  • @hockstrap NEVER!

  • @hockstrap Haha! Not a chance! We're after Stephen Fry next ;D

  • @hockstrap Never. We've already got him Eddie Izzard, and Neil Gaiman... we're not giving them back. Though if you would like you can have Russell Brand back.

  • @hockstrap you can't have him!

  • @letmechanistsrule He's ours anyway!

  • @hockstrap you don't deserve him

  • "Please, Alan...don't throw porridge in my face"!

  • No use threatening Stephen Fry with a bunch of bananas. I'm sure he has learnt how to defend himself against any type of fruit.

  • files are not useful, if you're staring down the barrel of a knife!

  • Alany, Alany, Alany...

  • "all right allan, blast you! 15 all!

  • girl: how about we go to bed together

laurie: as i said i work faster alone

    XD

  • Lady: "Nice flat."

Laurie: "Gets me from A to B."

  • looking at the comments i think most of you seemed to have missed the point of this sketch: taking the piss out of american movie cliches :)

nevertheless great performance from F&L as usual

  • @p473r I think perhaps more taking the piss out of James Bond and British secret service and police series of the 60s and 70s. Like Department S, Callum, The Professionals, The Sweeney. Maybe even a touch of Harry Palmer.

  • Theres a little man in the village who runs up my skirts.

  • Man, who is that actress? As sexy as Fry & Laurie are, she's up there as well.

  • ROFLMAO 0:54 Now that was funny.

  • this is a pretty badass haircut for laurie:)

  • fry- "now i cant do that, you very well know that the department is a large building housing hundreds of people i cant possibly shove it up my ass without a great deal of discomfort" LMAO

  • THUMBS UP If U THINK HUGH IS SMEXYYY!!!!

  • OMG I saw the legwork policeman joke on Rowan Atkinson's Laughing Matters DVD when I was little. I had no idea who Hugh Laurie was back then! So great to see it again!

  • "when you're staring down the barrel of a knife" ... xD

  • Both trials for west Bromwich Albion.

That's "soccer" team for our American friends.

  • Like I said - I work faster alone :D

  • I need nothing and nobody.

  • 0:18 am I the only one reminded of the ministry of silly walks?

  • @Rotom5000 me too :D

  • @Rotom5000 One of the best British comedy duos paying homage to the greatest British comedy troupe. Bravo!

  • @Rotom5000 No your not alone, after all "a nod's as good as a wink to a blind man, eh?"

  • @Rotom5000 That's a damn good John Cleese impression.

  • :)))) In "Street Kings" he looks just like Alan when Hugh narrows his eyes!

And a little bit like Wooster ...due to the smoothed hair maybe :)))

  • I love the part at 0:55! How does Hugh stay serious? Its finished! Over! And FINISHED! DONE OVER WITH!! DONE!!!

  • I love the part at 0:55! How does Hugh stay serious?

  • To me, This was both Stephens' and Hugh's finest work. I always wonder what would have happened if Stephen hadn't had a nervous breakdown - but then again alot of fat women in their 30's-40's would probably miss out on fantasising about a miserable, haggard, amazingly intelligent cripple who deep down has a heart of gold and is just reaching out for someone to love him . . . . . . Wonder how Hugh feels deep down about becoming the thing he once made fun of?

  • @woodins2008 What exactly do you mean by ,,becoming the thing he once made fun of"? I'm just curious, I don't really understand that part.

  • @fookingmrsschwein

You look at alot of the Fry and Laurie stuff, and quite a fair bit of it is directly poking fun at the "House/Grays Anatomy" style of drama and the way actors on those shows "acted". I dont blame Hugh, he was able to go over to America and completely re-invent himself, and gain alot of fame and adulation. It must have been heard finding himself after working with Stephen fry for so long.

  • godforsaken christ! it's insanity the British humour shows are so bizarre to find here at my place and that's been for years, and instead we just receive the American humour school that's not subtle and ironic and delightful at all.... I feel very ashamed to say I'm just discovering these 2 geniuses tonight, because I wanted to know more about the career of the man playing House but I must say, this character has the same hilarious humour of Laurie in this show, restrictedly... it's fantastic!!

  • thank you so much for uploading all these,"a bit of fry and laurie....i have loved both of them for yrs aand had no idea.

  • hugh has the freakiest, bendiest legs i've ever seen...

  • @jiujitsubuddah not necessarily... you could also come at it from the viewpoint that ABOFAL is more of the real creation of laurie as it was he and fry who created it as their breakthrough programme while house is david shores brainchild... thats not to say hugh doesnt have a huge input in house which im sure he he does... and im not even going to get into the attractiveness argument becaus its not worth the effort

  • fyfaen det er så konge å se humor på sitt beste!

  • The moment the slide flew off the pistol... I was sold!

  • "nice flat"

    "Get's me from A to B"

    hahaha

  • Whenever I see this now I can't stoping thinking about "The Gun Seller", Hugh's book :D

  • @jiujitsubuddah Oh it's fine for me if you take them personally, just taking offense in what random people say on the internet is something I wouldn't do myself, since it doesn't make any sense, but that's just me.

And rise above it, no point in bawwing, son.

Since you finally get my point, I think this is it. Thanks, was fun, pip pip cheerio.

  • @jiujitsubuddah Better? Christ in heaven, stop saying that. Nobody has said anything about anyone being better, that's your thought, and if you think the old school fans are better than the new ones, that's completely your own inferiority complex. I have absolutely nothing against someone liking them, whether they discovered them yesterday or 20 years ago.

Besides if I were you, I wouldn't take things on the internet personally. Seriously.

  • @jiujitsubuddah So which one did you see first? That's what it's about.

I don't understand why you're so mad. Just try to accept the fact that you'll never understand how a European/British person feels about this, there's nothing you can do about it, nothing I can do about it and there's no need to do anything about it.

There's no need to take this personally, it's just cultural perspective.

  • @jiujitsubuddah No I meant IN the olden days. Not watching them now that they are old, and only after you've seen House M.D. Don't know if that's your case, but it sounds like it. You haven't seen him like this since you were a kid. That's the difference. A funny person can be attractive, but that hardly has anything to do with what I'm talking about.

What I'm talking about is growing into something. And that's the thing that makes me say; "Please don't, it's Hugh Laurie", and you wont get it.

  • @jiujitsubuddah That "please don't, it's hugh laurie" was a quote from someone else, but that describes perfectly the situation. Europeans/Brits don't think of him as sexy, sure, you can think he's sexy, but most europeans/brits wont agree with you, if they've seen him in the olden days. It's just two different perspectives, sure you can think he's sexy, but it doesn't mean I'll agree with you.

And to someone being superior; Don't be silly.

  • @jiujitsubuddah I just thought you didn't receive my last comment since you didn't answer. And I'm merely discussing, this is hardly an argument. And what's wrong with Brits/Europeans vs. Americans? Would be stupid to say that we're all the same with everything. As I said, it's nothing to get mad about, it's just how it goes.

Have I said you're not allowed? No, that's just my perspective, and I think it's a bit silly. You'll just have to accept that.

  • @jiujitsubuddah Implication? Sure I said there's a cultural difference between understanding "Hugh Laurie", but it's hardly negative. Calling Hugh Laurie sexy is something Brits/Europeans (who have seen Fry & Laurie etc back in the day) find weird, but it's definitely you who said "Americans are stupid for not agreeing with me", I have never said that.

No need to get mad about not understanding "Please don't it's Hugh Laurie", you can't help it, nothing wrong with that.

  • @jiujitsubuddah What did he say anyway? Seems he removed the comment.

  • @jiujitsubuddah No it's just... it's... Hugh Laurie. There's no way to explain it, if one doesn't understand the meaning "Please don't. It's Hugh Laurie". You either get it, or you don't, it's just a cultural thing I guess.

  • @jiujitsubuddah Saw someone from the UK reply to someone from the US, when they said "OHMAGAWD HE'S SO SEXY", and the other person replied "Please don't. It's Hugh Laurie."

  • "A chartered prostitute from Hereford. Died two years ago, in a smiling accident."

  • Watch an episode of 'Spooks' and then watch this, you will never take Spooks seriously again. This is just genius.

  • I wish my legs could do that.

  • Haha, yes. This is reminiscent of The Gun Seller. Which, I must add, is hilarious.

  • God bless moment 0:13!!

  • Okay, I first saw Laurie through his work on House. But this is fucking FANTASTIC. I'm definitely a fan of his comedy career now.

  • Reminds me of The Gun Seller

  • well for me, i actually first saw hugh on 101 dalmations, then recognised him more on House. but since im not a real hard core fan of house, i started watching his old stuff and got into blackadder and bit of fry and laurie instead =D

  • laughed soo hard wen hugh policeman came on!

  • 0:55 i blowed up! xxDD

  • please allan don't throw porage on my face lol

    i work faster alone

    why don't to bed together

i told you i work faster alone lolz

  • It's all in the details. Hugh Laurie's got that non-specfic Not-Quite-English, Not-Quite-American accent in bad old British thrillers down to a tee. And I love how he's carrying one of those paper bags of messages, you always see in American films and TV, but that you never see in real life.

  • @PurushaDesa I thought his accent was Australian, especially on the word "department".

  • "No, I can't do that as you very well know. The Department is a large building housing hundreds of people, I couldn't possibly shove it up my ass."

  • Snazzy leg work xD

  • Brilliant leg work that policeman.

  • @WG00

He graduated from the Ministry of Silly Walks, cum laude.

  • Haha, hugh looks like a banana or a monkey in this scetch.

  • To QOTSAgerbils:

I think the conversation is as follows:

L "You simply came prepared, didn't you."

F "I prefer to put it this way: I certainly came prepared, didn't I."

and I think the difference is in the adverbs

  • When Hugh grabs the bunch of bananas I always think of the Monty Python sketch "Self Defense Against Fruit," especially the part where Michael Palin asks, "What if he's got a bunch?" I've always wondered if it's a deliberate homage to that sketch.

  • I think so - Hugh Laurie's policeman has to be a homage to the Ministry of Silly Walks too.

  • @LowSweetChariot Maybe Stephen and Hugh are fans of Monty Python xD

  • Laurie looks like Robert Reed in this

  • L "You certainly came prepared, didn't you."

F "I prefer to put it this way: I certainly came prepared, didn't I."

I suppose that there is a fundamental difference - in grammar! (;-D} Only Mr. Fry, Mr. Laurie and their 'Bit' could do something as insanely simple and yet as insanely witty!

  • @QOTSAgerbils could you provide a little bit of explanation? (for non-English people) thank you!

even if I understand half of the meaning it's still brilliantly hilarious! ;)

  • @QOTSAgerbils could you provide a little bit of explanation? (for non-English people) thank you!

even if I understand half of the meaning it's still brilliantly hilarious! ;)

  • "No, I can't do that as you very well know. The Department is a large building housing hundreds of people. I couldn't possibly shove it up my ass with a great deal of discomfort--"

  • Please, there's only one perfect woman for Hugh - Stephen.

  • LOL

    so funny

I love Stephen, even if he is gay.

    He's HOT!

    and thats that!

    ;]

  • >, even if he is gay.

    @.@

  • He's GAY?! :O I never knew!

  • why does everyone laugh at 'chichester'? i heard it in a monty python skit too...

  • Because it's a small picturesque city in Sussex. A spy conversation involving a first class flight to, say, Istanbul or Moscow might make sense, a first class flight to Chichester is just laughable.

It's probably also helped by the fact that Chichester is one of those words that just sort of sounds funny, if you say it right...

  • It's kinda sad that Laurie's physical comedy got more laughs than his brilliant commentary, "it's mostly legwork, this job."

  • "...starring down the barrel of a knife" lol

  • Stroud - spy capital of the world.

  • what is it about hugh laurie? why do ppl say they love him all the time? and are you all women?

  • cause he's brilliant... but I'm more of a Stephen Fry fan, even though he's gay...

and yes, we're all women..... at least i am:)

  • I'd say it's because of the recent House M.D. -fan rush, even all the 15-year old girls are yelling how "sexy" and "cute" Laurie is.

I myself prefer his comedian carieer, and my liking is more of a... respect than "OH GAWD HES LIKE SO GOOD LOOKING AND SEXY!!"

  • @whitebeam

Mine is more of a "He's talented and hilarious and I adore everything he and Fry ever did together. oh look, he's good-looking as well. So much the better."

  • @whitebeam

But he IS being a comedian in House. I mean yes, it's got its serious side as well, but he's definitely kept his snark. I wouldn't be such a fan of the show, and of Laurie, if it was a completely serious drama. It's just less of the slapstick/physical comedy of his youth and more mature and refined. Well, somewhat :)

  • @rawtoast I don't know if you realised, but that wasn't the point of my comment at all. Indeed, Laurie's acting, and being the way he is in House M.D. is probably the main, possibly the only reason for many people to even watch the show, so I can only agree with you on that.

But it's somehow sad how so many people don't even know he had a career before House.

  • @whitebeam I'm a 15 year old girl and I think he's sexy and cute xD but seriously, I have so much respect for him, I'm one of the fifteen year old girls who actually knew him from his work before House, and that aren't many girls =p

He inspires me and can make me laugh everyday, no matter what, and not many people can do that :)

So not every 15 year old girl has no respect for him. =p

  • @whitebeam

Ala Noel Fielding / Russell Brand. Then again, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are comediac geniuses, those two are just a passing fad.

  • @whitebeam certainly agreed

  • @whitebeam

Oh, I don't know. I'm American, and a girl, and I'm a teenager. I do think he was a little attractive when he was younger, but it's definitely secondary to him being a fantastic comedian.

  • @I4gotmyMANTRA Then what has my original comment up there have to do with you? Are you saying those things?

If not, then it has nothing to do with you, or your nationality, or age, or anything.

    Good bye.

  • @whitebeam

I'm just saying you can think someone is attractive and still respect and like them, as an actor.

As far as my age/sex/nationality... I was saying that I do belong to the demographic that usually DOES post that kind of comments. :)

  • @I4gotmyMANTRA Yeah sure. That's still hardly the point.

And woopedoo good for you, zany, interesting and all that jazz. I hope you feel special.

    Yep, that's about it, bye.

  • @whitebeam

And I assume you feel the same about yourself because your obnoxious on the internet, yeah? That makes you a real individual.

Sorry if it wasn't "the point", but this is the internet, and I'm free to share any opinion, idea or unrelated musing I see fit. Actually, thats how communication between humans usually works, if I'm not mistaken.

  • @whitebeam

people finds funny and good acting people, atractive

    you loser..

your comentary shows how whore you are

    bitch

I am a 22 med student and not a 15 year old girl. I have never commented if laurie is sexy etc. but you..

you show everybody how simple of thought you are

and if user from youtube use their hands with u its because youtube people doesent think..

  • @alfajorcin So I'm a "loser whore bitch", but you get mad at people on the internet when you disagree with them.

    Right. Great logic right there.

  • @whitebeam i find him rather gawky and adorable actually :)

  • @whitebeam he's both

  • It's the Americans that say it. And you know what they're like...

  • Pip pip cheerio Americans wot wot.

  • something about this sketch reminds me of hugh's book, the gun seller

    =)

  • yeah I think so as well! Great book by the way! :)

  • Yes, you're right. But Lang is far more nerdy and like a tough Bertie Wooster, in my opinion. But the atmosphere and everything else in the sketch just drags my mind towards the Gun seller.

  • Just brilliant because most of it is just like all of those American police/ secret agent shows.

  • 0:18 comic!

  • "Files aint a lot of use when you're staring down the barrel of a knife."

    Love it.

  • those are blackmoors, not fighting fish.

  • Hereford, woohoo! No-one ever mentions Hereford in anything :(

  • Except for documentary histories of the SAS

  • true :D

  • I LOVE HUGH LAURIE SOOOOOO MUCH

    and is that morwenna banks?

  • id love to see a continuance of this sketch S+H R AWESOME!

  • there are others with this theme.

  • Man, Hugh dancing as a cop, priceless.

  • How do Hugh Laurie's legs DO THAT?!

  • There's always a french stick in the shopping bags.
