I'm buying a 4cyl automatic decent shape mustang tomorrow... considering the swap... but it'd be a bit of a 'deal' to harvest all the parts to make this work... hmmmmm
@v1ctorrr No, I don't recommend trying to do any part of this in stages. Depending what you get for parts, either new or used, will greatly affect the price. I had three donor cars to work with which made the swap cheap and easy. Here's how I would start.
Get all V8 associated parts first - engine, trans, rear axle, driveshaft, suspension springs, trans cross member, radiator, exhaust, clutch pedal assembly, wiring harnesses, engine mounts, trans mount, starter, power steering, struts.
yes, the 4cyl trans will work, as long as you install a pilot bearing that fits the crank and the T5 input shaft. I had a Chevy 6cyl bronze pilot bearing machined to fit this application and it worked fine. the trans will last as long as you don't start doing hole shots or have a powerful engine. my son thrashed his 4cyl T5 at the drags and it lasted awhile, but eventually broke. otherwise it's a doable swap, no other complications. good luck and let me know how it goes.
the difference between the 4cyl T5 and the V8 T5 are the input shafts. the 4cyl input shaft is smaller diameter, which means you will need a smaller inside diameter pilot bearing. my son and I used a 4cyl T5 once and what I did was buy a Chevy bronze throw out bearing and have it machine to fit the input shaft and the crankshaft. total cost for the Chevy bearing and machining was $30.
Haha, Very cool, My cousin just got a 92 notch that we're going to do a 4.6 swap in and later after the bugs are worked out an sts rear mount turbo setup, fun times. I think I'm going to need a new video camera...
fairly straight forward. I strongly suggest going with a carburetor instead of fuel injection, unless you use a F.A.S.T. fuel injection management system.
damn that sounds evil i love it

this video was taken when there were no mufflers and no tailpipes on the car. it's definitely much louder with just dumps than tailpipes.
