I dont get it, i stumbelled upon this vid by accident... interesting but dont understand the sounds they make or what the goal is? they dont seem to be trying to hit each other?
The sounds they're making are called "kiai" and are basically projections of one's fighting spirit from the abdomen. As to the goal of the match, they're both trying to strike the other with proper form, adequate spirit and striking force, as well as accuracy and follow through. Such valid strikes are awarded points. The reason they might seem hesitant at times is because of pressure exerted by each other. It's difficult to describe. To understand it, you have to feel it.
Why does this seem boring to me while professional go games leave me flabberghasted?
