Why are there 12 dislikes? Just cause the losers didn't get to see you fly it? Well if they want to see it fly they should get off their asses and build their own.
Like the nose art although the pictures that I have of my uncle in his F6F on board the Randolph didn't have any girls painted on the nose. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the artwork, I'm just not sure that "flew" in the Navy as much as it did in the Air Corp in WW2. Beautiful plane, just like the original was. Too bad you don't see more of them at airshows like the P-51s.
We are BOTH right actually... I said wingspan; you said length. But in any case, my point is that this model does indeed appear to be at the specified scale.
As for Wikipedia, if you know how to click on the "history" tab, you can pretty much avoid the worst of its errors. Furthermore, for articles as heavily referenced as the Hellcat article (one of the most famous planes of WWII), errors/vandalism are usually very quickly corrected.
I wonder how it would of performed against the german planes had it been deployed in europe. Probably very well, the Hellcat is a real powerhouse of a fighter plane.
The Brits nailed a few Messerschmitts if I recall correctly. The Hellcat is a fine plane indeed, and a real monster up close. A little sluggish for Europe, but I wouldn't want to see it pouncing on me if I were in the Luftwaffe
i think you should paint the prop tips yellow with a black stripe at the end of the yellow tip but lol i know be carefull not to unbalence the prop, but would make it more reaistic. but good job should like try to get a 3 fin prop
Very nicely done video. An even better job on the model. The only noticeable thing was the two-bladed prop. FWIW, I believe that is an F6F-5, though. The -4 models had a small rear window that proved to be useless so it was deleted on the later model.
The F4F Wildcats came in -3 and -4 models with the -4 having folding wings. Impressive job overall!

Ok, lets do some math:
The real Hellcats were about 33 feet long
So if this is a 1/6 scale model
It should be...about 5 1/2 feet long
frankydman 2 years ago
"OK, lets do some math."
Yes, let's.
F6F Hellcat Wingspan, per wikipedia: 42' 10".
Times 1/6: 85.7"
Model wingspan: 88.5"
Close enough that I'd call it 1:6... actually slightly larger.

Hey, MY source said 33 ft.
Also, you used wikipedia, and I hear stories that 5 year olds sometimes edit wikipedia.
Then again, there is a possibility we could both be wrong.

Actually, the Brits had some Hellcats as well in Europe. A few saw action there, and were credited with at least 52 kills on that front

That's cool and every thing, but you don't want an anorexic 80's lady on it, you wanna classy Red head 40's pin up on the nose!

Looks pretty sweet to me...regardless of the scale. Very impressive Chally. When can we see it fly?

Monday! See you at the field?

Nice model! Are those wings a bit bigger than on the real thing (especially the tail plane)?
SmiertSpionem 4 years ago
Im not sure just how accurate the scale outline is. Would be interesting to know though.
cfvettes 4 years ago
I'm very fussy about scale, after all I do a lot of 1:72 scale planes. It all has to be perfect ;)

Thanks and you are probably right about the designation numbers. Did you like the radial engine sound bytes I had at the beginning and end?
cfvettes 4 years ago
For sure. Those were a really nice touch. Did you get them in a group of sound effects or strip them out of another video?
slrman 4 years ago
I found the wav files on a warbird website. I dont know how to strip sounds from other videos. Wish I did.
