Herbie Hancock is one of those prolific and unsung artist of out times. He has an understanding of music that most will never conceive. We the masses who are gifted the ears to hear his work, should take what he gives us as a blessing that God allowed to partake of this gifted man's work. I for one, am not surprised... I'm just happy that I was allowed to enjoy what he does and be able to comment and perhaps enlighten someone else to this beings genius
@mobiledrummer Just caught your now 8 month old comment on "the definitive cover version (of T.N.K.) by "801". I really have to agree with you on that one. That whole album was awesome. Peace, from an old Hippie in Michigan.
@donaldnewmanmedone cool! I'm glad you agree!.....I was at a friend's jamming 30 years or so ago and his roommate turned me on to that...I probably would have never heard it otherwise but I remember being amazed by it and later another friend was giving away some albums and I finally got my own copy :) It's lost now but I have youtube!
a cover is not an attempt to replicate a song. a cover (and especially in herbie hancock's case) is there to be a liberal and creative-licensed tribute to a geat song by a great group. the beatles arent here to perform this song, and herbie's reputable to do just about anything he pleases to produce.. i mean.. it IS herbie hancock..

Terrible. Absoltely terrible. This song has been covered by everyone from Phil Collins to Shelia Chandra (Monsoon). You can't replicate a classic. Why do artists think they can out do a classic song. Monsoon is the only version that adds a touch to this song, only because of Shelia's voice. I would be hiding myself from this project if I was Dave and Herbie. But I'm not, so it's just my opinion.

Excellent explanation of cover songs, lyssagirl7. Not many people write as well as Lennon or play and create like Hancock, it's a good combination.
