i think it all whinds down to personal preference its 2011 going on 12 and i think in this day in age the lines of which are better are heavily blurred for my manual users just face it..manuals are no longer superior cause the computer chips acts faster than a human and for my auto users just face it that manuals are more fun... case and point...

thing is that auto's are smoother and faster shifting (depending on the car) and well im sorry but manuals are just so fun. every gearbox has a purpose. manuals save gas and are fun for the track, normal autos are great town cruisers, and sport autos change gears faster than a human ever can ever shift.

The 08 got to the end first but it was a bracket race so it lost .But i hit the brakes at the end so i wouldnt brake out .But it wasnt enough.

I must agree that BUILT auto trannys are better, but stock auto to stock manual, most of the times the manual will take it with some exceptions. The m3 SMG believe it or not is faster than the manuals!!! few other cars auto is also faster somehow!!!

thats y drag cars are mostly auto cuz they can shift quicker!!! u guys are arguing over nothin! In circuit manuals are much better, but some auto cars are developing Duble Cluch automatics which shift faster than the human driver without any loss when downshifting and it curves, but those are still expensive. Hell I drive an tip-tronic auto, but while it is not as fun as a manual it still does half the job!!! So Drag Racing=Automatic. Circuit=manual. Around City=Manual or auto(WHO CARES)

The new automatic shifting race cars are quicker. The Porsche 911 Turbo with the paddle shifting double clutches are 0-60 in 3.3 seconds versus that of 3.8 seconds with the six speed manuals. You will find similar numbers with the Ferraris.That is with the professionals driving them, of course.

I think manuals are much more pleasurable to drive and I don't ever want to be without one, but the newly engineered autos are able to shift at greater speed and precision than a human can.

@goldsgym1244 You don't choose a manual to shift quicker than an auto, you to it so you can choose your RPMs for the gears. If you use a manual right it is faster than auto in most new cars. Some of them, auto is just faster, say in your high end mercedes with 7 and 8 gears, etc.

SMGs are not automatics. They use a hydro-clutch. I define an automatic as a transmission with a torque converter. SMG trannys do not have a torque converter.
