God I would LOVE to be a commercial diver! I know of one place in NZ that does the training. but does anyone know of somewhere here where I can have a fam dive like the UDC have?
I'm, currently doing a HSE level 4 course, but the center I'm doing it at only does up to Level 4, does anyone know of a good center where I could do my level 5?
Gahhhh I cant wait to do something like this. God, what I wouldnt give to be a commercial diver. And if anyone here IS a commercial diver, do you think you could send me a PM about it? Im having a hard time getting answers to some questions I have about it
Three weeks at a time diving off an oil rig in the middle of the North Sea is not exciting and this film proves it. AC/DC can't make it seem glamouruos either.
When Diving sat, you're breathing helium. Air consists of Oxygen and Nitrogen. Oxygen limits you because it becomes toxic under pressure, and the longer your exposure to it, the more it will poison you. Nitrogen becomes Narcotic under pressure, so all sat diving is mixed gas and helium. :)
im just asking because i read that hydrox as a breathing gas would allow for much greater depth than trimix, but too expensive. I was just wondering if you guys maybe already have access to such stuff :)
@Samurailord - no, definitely no Hydrogen used in offshore diving. Comex did a couple of deep experimental dives using Hydreliox (O2/Helium/Hydrogen) but really only proved 2 things; that very deep diving isn't efficient and Hydrogen scares the shit out of everyone.
@Berkcam I have the physiological report on my desktop somewhere actually. The effects weren't as bad as I thought. Poor bastard had to decompress for forty eight days though.
I'm looking for a french documentary i saw a few years ago: "La vie en saturation", about saturation at the north sea. i cannot find it anywhere. If someone could help me (better if translated or subtitled to english or spanish, but even in french or any other language) i'd be really really grateful. Thanks a lot
Christ, that brought back some memories, especially when the diver struggles up the PLEM cover. I recall the old gas services reclaim would be trying to suck your guts out then! Yellow wellies, must be Iain Lamont?
I van, you have hit the nail on the head there, if you want a great giggle offshore then Air work is where its at !! If you want to lose the will to live and whore your div ing out then sat is where its at !! Miserable but loaded.
Just finished Tony Grooms book, nothing but respect for all divers

Good video!!! I'll say this. if I'm 1500 feet below sea level, I don't think "Hell's Bells" is the song high on my playlist.

yea, the divers on the de-oiling of the Luckenbach Project I understand made that kind of cash. They were Sat diving of course.

I am a Part 2 Sat Diver from the UK currently working in Brazil and i can confirm the below to be correct. Top end divers can clear £1k per day

Are you crazy ? Sat Divers making at least 800 Pound for a day mate ?
balikadam25 1 year ago
£25k for a 28 day stint
moggy251 1 year ago
how much do these divers get paid a month do you think. i reckon it could be as much as £30-£35k a year.

what gasmix do you guys breathe at such depths? is there hydrogen involved?

heliox right?
viper14b 2 years ago
The mix at 180m would probably be helium 98% (He), oxygen 2% (o2) due to partial pressures of o2.

problem with hydrox in a commercial sense is thats its very flammable, so heliox is used for day to day sat ops.

European divers seem to have such better equipment. Looks like a Divex rebreather bailout. Maybe they go deeper?

North sea sat. divers are limited to 180m, atleast on the Norwegian sector. I belive the same goes for the british.

Maybe one of the best on the tube about Sat.
Many divers today belive Sat is the Climax of the diving. Well for me is the anticlimax.Better go back to nice, sane, and hard air diving.

I second that ( about the vid )
