  • Does anyone remember a VH1's program called "Celebrity Paranormal Project". In the first chapter they go Waverly Hills Sanitorium! I've been searching for months but there's no videos of this program in youtube! :/

  • I have to agree with everyone else that say This is a sanitorium. To the owner of the video, This is not an asylum for the insane, It was a a hospital for patiend with Tuberclosis, thats why i disliked this

  • MY HOMETOWN SON!

  • this dude has nooo idea wat hes talkin bout, an asylum ? it was an old TB hostibal, i went there tonite, its soo fun

  • @ThElEgAcYkIlLa lol, yeah idk where he got asylum either.

  • Sweetness it looks really creepy at night!

  • Uh....it closed in 1961...NOT 1981!

  • it wasnt a asylum just a hospital until closed down

  • Ghosts it's like God... It does'nt exist.

  • @DansTaChaine That's what you think. Dun,dun,duuuuuuuun!

  • @FrankoSpanko1 No, That's what I know.

  • I walked their today

  • I can walk to Waverly I live so close, lol

  • yes this was never an asylum. it was a sanatorium. an asylum is for the insane,

A sanatorium is a medical facility for long-term illnesses. like TB and so..

  • Why would they destroy this building??? Its got some good mysterious history behind it. That's why

  • And if you research it, the hights number of deaths possible over the 50 year period was 8,212. The highest number of deaths was in 1945 and it was 162 in one year.

  • its not an assylum stupid. Its a sanatorium. There is a major difference!

  • I am sure with the TB outbreak the death tunnel got a lot of use.

  • 63000? Boy they sure bring in a lot of exposure with massive exaggerations like that.

  • @Allante715 its was no exaggerations i live 10 miles from it all true

  • @Donjovi32

According to Dr. J. Frank W. Stewart who worked there stated that the most that ever died in a single year was 150, from his autobiography. So the real death toll was more in the area of 4-6 thousand. 63000 is a enormous number, even for tuberculosis that does have a relatively high untreated fatality rate.

It sure is a good way to scare people I guess. Such a high number also suggestions that the hospital was a waste of time, and did not help people. That is false.

  • @Allante715 6,ooo is what i said i didnt know they said 63000

  • @Donjovi32

    Rodger

  • @Donjovi32

    Watch Youtube video

    1Tcl3eRoNUk

They say 6000 people died, them being the travel channel.

  • Why dont they just tear down that creepy place??

  • @Wellington5392 because although it is creepy it holds a TON of history in it of Louisville during one of the biggest TB outbreaks of the world.

  • would love to go to this place

    it looks amazing

i will have to make do with the castles in england for now lol

  • I'll add that paper work and birth records weren't the best back then. The ''Body chute'' was for supplies. Not for the dead, but with so many dead they had to use it to move all the bodies easily and out of the sight of the living. Back then people covered shit up. They didn't put mass panic on the news and when the government said keep your mouth shut. People listened. It's a entirely different time and culture then. Keep that in mind.

  • I've said this before and I'll say it again. Atleast 50-60k people died here. The White Death was very much deadly and the out break was getting bad. Alot of the deaths were never officially documented but it's proven for a extended period of time it was so bad, atleast 1 died every hour, 24 hours a day, in such a large number they used the ''body chute''. People went there to die, that's about it. It's name just doesn't happen to be a play on ''The Black Death'' out of irony. So much nerd rage.

  • How about you say Louisville right..:) lol

  • geriatric is alzheimer's disease .Which in them days was classed as a mental illness.Because they didn't know what alzheimers was .People were locked up in mental asylums it's only in resent decades that research show that it wasn't a mental illness .And drugs like NAMENDA and ARICEPT were invented.

  • @stuartpatto1976 Also, Thank you for explaining that to me, it makes sense.

  • USE IT'S ACTUAL NAME.

  • IT'S NOT A ASSYLUM

  • @BlueSmoke87 The reason people think its an mental asylum . is because geriatric ,Alzheimer's was classed as an mental illness and were put in mental asylums .Because noone knew what alzheimers was.

  • @BlueSmoke87 I was thinking the same thing! It's a hospital/Sanotarium. Good comment mate

  • so...lonely, forgotten, long ago...

  • Bullshit. Its a proven fact that Waverly only saw a total of 8,212 deaths in its history. The 63,000 number was trumped up by the Mattingly's...

  • its a spooky place but ghost, come on? isn't ghost stories for childern? grow the fuck up will you.

  • I'll be going here soon. I live here in Eastern KY. Does any one have any Ideas on what I should do once I get in there. I'll be on a Private Night there. Me an 9 others. I'm scared.

  • it closed it 62 hello get the story riught before you tell the story

  • Waverly Hills was a SANATORIUM, not an Asylum!

  • @destined2sleep ah you noticed to i wanted to say it in acomment but aperrently i dont have to anymore :)

  • Is that NICK BLOOMFIELD narrating?!

  • First of all it wasnt an asylun it was a hospital fo patiants who had tb. I should know i went to it halloween night

  • I would NOT go to this place in the dark!

  • Shame they can't reopen a lot of these places, as asylums are needed. And there are more people in the world these days! Good video, and narrating! :)

  • Can somebody tell me why they don't have destroyed this building ?

  • okay...ill go watch some chibi pokemon now...

  • (2) I always thought that asylum and sanitarium\sanatorium ment madhouse, moreover a song by Metallica called Welcome Home Sanitarum tells about a man in a madhouse. So, do asylum and sanitarium mean madhouse? and was Waverly Hills a madhouse? Or it was a hospital in which tubercolosis was cured?

  • I got one question. What is waverly hills? a sanatorium or an asylum? and what do you mean for asylum? is W.H. a madhouse or another kind of hospital? I think there's a communication broblem caused by the meaning of the words asylum and sanitarium/sanatorium in Italian and in English. "Sanatorio" means hospital in which TBC was cured, "asilo" means kindergarten and our word for madhouse is manicomio that can be also traslated as asylum and sanitarium.

  • @thanatoutheosJr a sanatorium

  • Here in Italy, all the asylums were closed in the mid '70s. I guess some of them are still abandoned (i think lots of them became psychiatric hospitals or some kind of building for the cure of mind illness, but different from an asylum). I don't know if someone ever made an "haunting investigation" about one of our asylums. It would be great.

  • This is such an architectural beautiful place. Absolutely beautiful structure... It stuns me every time i look at it. Its so amazing. It's simply a marvel of its time..

R.I.P all T.B victims. Respect to those who all lost their lives.

  • This is such an architectural beautiful place. Absolutely beautiful structure... It stuns me every time i look at it. Its so amazing.

R.I.P all T.B victims. Respect to those who all lost their lives.

  • This is such an architectural beautiful place. Absolutely beautiful structure...

  • quindi?

  • Interesting! I worked for around 10 years in a residential hospital for people with learning disability,Bromham Hospital,Bedfordshire. Many residents had been housed there for on average 60 years! Some would talk about 'ghosts' or seeing people who'd died whilst living there. At night,(I lived-in),you would see/hear all kindsa strange, inexplicable sights.Sadly,it was closed in '97,and is now a housing development! Interesting clip.

  • Yeah Great Video ! I Love it ! TAPS has been there too and they Found a Lot of activity ! This was my fav Episode :)

Sorry if u cant understand me but im from Germany :)

  • I thought i saw two shadow figures and some orbs during this vid :) nice job

  • The Ghost adventures team has done an investigation there they got and they were not dissapointed.

  • would i fuk be goin in there!

  • so let me get this straight..63,000 bodies went through a morgue that only has capacity for 3 bodies at a time? at least 100 bodies a day would have to go thru there.. gimme a break idiots.

  • @Liverpoolallday Waverly Hills actually has a website that the owners run and you can read all the history of the place. It's very interesting.

  • @Liverpoolallday That's what the "Body Chute" was for. It used to be they'd cram the bodies together, then they wanted to use the tunnel so that none of the alive patients would see the other bodies.

  • this place and Bobby Mackey Music World IMO are the scariest place both of which are in Kentucky.

  • It is not an asylum. It is a sanatoruim for people TB. There is a difference.

  • There's ghosts everywhere wwhoooo

where do you think wind comes from?? ooo i said too much =)

  • first off Waverly hills was a SANITARIUM not an ASYLUM . It was to help people who had tuberculosis not people with mental disorders .

  • if i go here iam fucking taking chuck norris with me..

  • I live around this area and every year i go here. This isnt fake. Its real. I nearly piss my pants everytime i go here. I swear its freaky. One time i was around room 502( i think idk) and i heard the words clearly," No No No!" and i froze up. Shit it was creepy..... O_o

  • and why did they died?

  • @freerunnerthebest tuberculosis

  • @brandonmcgee17 and that is? (srry im dutch xD)

  • @freerunnerthebest Tuberculosis is a disease of the lungs, but it can also spread to the brain, liver, and other organs. During the time of Waverly Hills, tuberculosis was out of control and spreading fast. Now days, its very controled and there are many ways to cure the disease.

  • :( so many lives lost

  • they are real. ya just better hope that they are nice ones and not mean ones. there IS a difference.

  • 63 000... it's like my town and the one next to it together.. wow.. these places are the best kind of way to describe human masses mistakes over time. this, religions, and many many stuff to add to the list. thanks for sharing!

  • It isn't an asylum. It never was. It was a TB hospital.

  • Dude, I'm staying the night there tonight

  • dude did you break in to this place or sumthin

  • Haunted or not, and whether ghosts are real or not, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be there after dark.

  • that western state asylum look,s beast thats one monster of an asylum.

  • is hopkinsville an mental asylum?

  • hey chasingmidnight we could go to all the abandoned asylum s in england together ive got a film type in st lukes by stuartpatto1976 you'll se ma film in st lukes asylum severals asylum and st george s asylum is not that far from winchester

  • waverlyhills was an mental asylum wen it closed as a tb hospital in 1961 it reopend as a mental asylum

  • @stuartpatto1976 It started as a tuberculosis hospital and reopened as Woodhaven Geriatrics Hospital. Geriatrics is medical treatment that focuses on health care of the elderly, not a "Mental Asylum".

  • yer its easy go through the cricket field that way u won't get seen we were in there for 3 hours its amazing place we're going to cherry knowles asylum on saterday we're digging under the fence lol you should join us

  • Waverly Hills was NEVER an asylum. An asylym is where mental patients where put.

WH was a TB sanatorium, which is where people with TB where put to keep away from the public since TB is very contagious and antibiotics for it where invented yet.

(Before anybody asks, I'm KY and I know the story very well.)

  • i 'am from england the asylum .s here are very old that is new compeared to them iv been to loads ov abandoned asylums whittingham is a beast it massive

  • @stuartpatto1976 I actually just moved back to Winchester, England. I'm looking for some asylums to check out over here. Is Whittingham easy to get into ?

  • @chasingmidnight I would recommend spending a week on the Isle Of Wight (The isle Of The Dead) The entire island is haunted the street's the shops. As soon as you set foot on there you feel extremely depressed and the entire time think that something is watching you. The abandoned hospital is the thing that creeps me out the most something made a guy on the tour with us fly 6 feet backwards now i know why we had paramedics on the scene the entire time.

  • @stuartpatto1976 I will admit there are some really freaky places here in England but there is one rock just south of England that really scares the shit out of me wherever you go there are ghosts and shit like that all over the god damn place.

  • this was not an asylum. it was a TB hospital mainly. then for a while it was a geriatrics hospital. & i bet thousands more died here then over in "England"

  • @1011everything who gives a fuck how many died in it all i say is the asylums in england are way way older than that

  • i bought the film death tunnel not realy scary some hot chicks though

  • @stuartpatto1976 Yes, I agree about the hot chicks.

  • @stuartpatto1976 Is it any good? I like the ghost aspect and I'm sure my husband would put up with the movie for the hot chicks. lol. I'm thinking of Netflix-ing it.

  • I Love this Place! They put the Best Haunted House on around! Well worth the 20$ ticket. Can't wait till Halloween! Plan to go again this year!

  • I would love to visit that place. Been watching bunch of haunted mansions, hospitals stories especially on Travel Channel. I do believe in Ghost. I should be a paranormal investigator myself

  • woopy dee wat,u want a fucking medal

  • Based on research the best guess on the actual number of deaths is between 6200 and 7000

  • Theres a horror film called Death tunnel about this, good film :)

    And most haunted went there.

  • I love the videography and timing on these videos! Cheers!

  • an asylum is where they keep mentely unstable people. this is a sanatorium which is where they had to keep them away from the public and attempt to treet them. i should know i live right by it

  • sorry but I didn't see anything

  • FATHER IN HEAVEN!

  • chuck norris wouldn.t be frightend

  • chuck norris wouldn.t be frightend ov this place

  • i can see the girl in the glass and a dark figure im not joking

  • Bet the real estate around these parts is DIRT CHEAP!!!

  • There's another asylum in Kentucky located near

Hopkinsville, KY called Western State. The only

difference in this place and waverly is that the one

in Hopkinsville is still in business and working.

But I can't tell you of the conditions there and how

the patients are treated, and what shape the

    building is in.

    methodistgirl

  • @methodistgirl I'm from Christian Co. and Western State is going strong.

The building is in great shape and I know a few people who work there and patients are treated great.

  • @kryskay I visited a patient there at Western

State and I did feel a presence there. I just

wonder why there isn't a video on Western

    State.

    methodistgirl

  • @methodistgirl Oh no doubt there might be something there.

I always wondered that myself since it started out as the Western Kentucky Asylum for the Criminally Insane back in the 1860s. Who knows what has gone on with the treatment of patients prior to modern medicine? I too would like to see something on Western State.

  • The deathcount was exaggerated quite a bit, but none-the-less, it's a creepy fucking place.

  • @visualsonic Shut the hell up dumbass, your not anywhere near as funny as me and your site sucks shit.

  • @visualsonicus @visualsonicus Hey dumbass, I’m not the source of the 63,000 dead total, there were many outlets quoting it. If you used the internet for something other then browsing for Animal porn you may have found that out. As for the term Asylum, if you had spent the money on a proper dictionary instead of “Bestiality for Dummy’s” you would see that the term” Asylum” can also refer to “a place used for the treatment of the sick”. I win, dipshit.

  • @chasingmidnight Did you go to wittingham asylum?

  • I was watching to another video and I could see some houses nearby this hospital and also some operators working near it.

Are there any memorial or something in there?

  • Well, You know what they say... BRING OUT THE NUKES! O.o

  • why did the nurse hang herself?

  • @whitchp09 If you work for a while with severely mentally ill, it may happen that the traces left behind. Even psychologists have a psychologist, for example.

  • I've been dying to go to this place now that I got way into the paranormal and the scary thing is this place is approx 15 miles from my house,,,

  • Creepy. I hope I don't end up in that place.

  • nice place it reminds me the shalbridge cradle from thief deadly shadows.

does it was orphanage before the asylum?

  • Loo-uh-vool. NOT Lou-ee-ville.

  • @raz0r699 stfu

thats how u dumbass hicks pronounce it.

    louis sounds like luey

  • @iwuvmypoopy303

Brilliant display of naivete on your part. Lou-A-Vull catches flack from the rest of the state for not being hicks. It's the 16th largest metropolitan area(population) in the nation, and fairly wealthy, dumbass.

  • @RCTPatriot75 compared to where i live, you guys are cousin fuckers...

  • Back before the sanatorium was ever thought of, the land was purchased by Major Thomas H. Hays in 1883 Major Hays needed a school for his daughters.in the year 1910 It was inaugurated as a hospital which had two storeys It could originally accommodate about 40-50 patients who were suffering from tuberculosis The remaining patients were sent to Hazelwood Sanatorium which was also located in Louisville and Waverly Hills closed in June of 1961 over 50 years was approximately 8212 deaths

  • who do i contact to do tours thank you

  • either 63,000 or 6,000 people died I've heard both #s. I'm wondering if 63,000 is the total in Kentucky that died...

  • asylums arent exactly what there made out to be i mean i have to go to asylum everyweek and the weirdest thing ive seen was a girl with her head taped to a wall...:/

  • I've been there before and any Louisvillian like me knows that it's not an Asylum. It's a TB Hospital.

  • Not meaning to ask this dumb question, but did they make a movie out of this?

  • haha i have seen this movie called death tunel!! freaking scary its was all about those sick people and about this hospital! O.o

  • i agree with chasing midnight asylum means the same thing asylum a splace for sick people n sanatoruims

  • these critics are being sticklers, the asylum term may hold some incurable feeling of dread that they would rather not feel - sanatorium - offers hope, a new direction - so I cannot blame them insisting on it - although, you are correct as well in your assertions

  • Did you see anything unusual other than graffiti.? I didnt when my friends and I went in through the body shute 25 years ago . We went all through the building and didnt see anything strange ( no ghosts I mean ). If ghosts are there guess they could have been scared .

  • i will have to agree with shelbysma314 you need to get your facts strait! and it is not called an asylum it is sanatorium! i have been there several times and liked it. it is a good place to go and get some ghost pictures or evps... now they dont always happen but almost every time i have went we got some pictures good ones not of orbs and we got some scary evps... if i cant here the words i dont count it. they do 2 hour tours for $22 and 1/2 night tours for $50 and full night tours for $100

  • @froggiesinthetrees My facts are correct, "Asylum" is a generic name for a place where people are treated for sickness. People please check you facts before you try and correct me, it makes you look like dumbshits.

  • @chasingmidnight Sanitariums: To most, the word "sanitarium" currently has identical meaning to "insane asylum". However, a century ago, the typical sanitarium was most likely a hospital or residential health spa. The term "sanitorium" tends to be reserved for the TB institutions. The most famous historic sanitarium was the Kellogg Sanitarium in Battle Creek, Michigan . Since Waverly Hills was a TB institution and not for the insane alone, it was a sanitarium, not an asylum.

  • @chasingmidnight No you are wrong. A asylum is for people who are mentally ill. I do recall this place being a TB facility making it a sanatorium; do to the fact that his place was not built for the mentally ill but the physically ill.

  • Comment removed

  • @froggiesinthetrees yeah dumbass. get your facts right. sanatoriums was built to treat ppl with tuberculosis. sometimes sanatories later became asylums but sanatoriums ARE NOT the proper word for asylum.

  • I love asylums... 0_o

I wanna work in one... -_-

  • What's the story of this place? How did 63,000 people die there and why is it abandoned?

  • @Finalkfka It was a tuburculosis hospital for patients who had the disease. According to shows I've seen on this place, people were dying not only from the sickness, but also from the different treatments/cures for patients. Alot of the treatments were very painful and often killed many. That was the reason it eventually closed. Very gruesome history indeed.. 0_0

  • omg its so scary i sh1t my pants nooooot but there a poop stain

  • ...i know this is really nitpicky and bitchy of me... but it is called waverly hills SANATORIUM!!!!!!!!! not asylum!! lol, sorry, but this place is a total legend - please don't spoil it!

  • at2:37 it almost looks like a girl in a dress steps into frame at the end of the hallway

  • wow what a morbid place.

  • This asylum is noted for having more hateful ghost stories than most of the areas in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. I live in Cincinnati, about 1.5 hrs north. It is one of the places many of us want to visit. It may really be haunted. I want to find out

  • ITS A SCARY NURSING HOME

  • the asylum is a stunning place

  • i live in Louisville, Ky and ya I believe Waverly Hills Asylum is haunted... um the stories I've heard about it and the proof is so much to show that it is haunted.

  • wher is this faking ghost????? FAKE FAKE FAKE!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautifully done. Thankyou.

  • It is always the asylums that seem to be the creepiest.

  • @andrewwatson39 yeah you are right and why. Dude how the hell did you get in i would shit my self well you are probably bigger than me im only 13

  • this reminds me a level from thief deadly shadows Shalbridge Cradle also was an asylum and then i was an orphanage and then fire starts and then it was abanndoned place

  • I imagine the 5th floor were they kept the Launatics is scary! I have heard or seen the nurse who hunged herself was pregnant at that time! or other nurse who jumped out of the building! can any be kind enough to tell me!

  • It Was The Lady That Hung Her Self. she Was Pregnant

  • ya...i know

  • thers also that haunted athens lunatic asylum

  • how irritating was this music?! the same track playing over and over again.

  • 8,212 people died in here !!!! It's confirmed.

    No 63,000 people.

  • so you confirm this in 2010, this was written in 2006, and it added, 63000 people WERE BELIEVED TO have died...

    (:
