  • it does have a woodier sound than 6120ssv . does it have the nitrocellulose finish?

    anyway, sounds cooool to me

  • @oddjobb88 That's probably because of the bracing - late '50s style 6120s have trestle bracing which gives them a harder "clang"-type sound. More electric. This one feels more like an acoustic guitar with pickups.

As for finish, classy plastic (aka polyurethane)

  • you seem to really know the gretch

please give me a piece of advice want one :hollowbody with fat tone not metallic sound LEFT HAND

want to use it clean or with BIG MUFF

    which model to choose thanks

  • Sounds like you need a 6120 (filtertron version) or a 5120 (cheaper version) although I wouldn't recommend using a fuzz pedal with a hollowbody unless you're really into feedback.

There are left-hand 6120 models as well.

  • thers a rancid tim armstrong model hope it can deals with fuzz/disto thanks for your time

  • Well.........I think it sounds pretty awesome mate.....The thing with these guitars is that you can get a good range of tones from them...good work.

  • Where is the warmth? Its a Gretsch, not a Fender Tele.

  • ?

Sorry, man. Don't understand your comment.

It sounds like what it sounds like, period.

  • There is no fat tone.... Gretsch is made for that fat sound. It just sounds empty on this vid.

  • True, it doesn't sound "fat". But I still liked the way it turned out sonically.

Truth is , you can pretty much make it sound like anything although, I agree, it's best at doing "warm-&-midrangey" (which is why I swapped the pickups)

  • actually when you listen back to many of those gretsches on the 50's rockabilly albums they get pretty fuckin bright and prickly sounding. But gretsches do warm real well too but usually not on the bridge pickups.

  • are you using any amplifier or is the acustic sound of your guitar? sounds really nice

  • Thanks for the compliment.

It's actually a very loud amplifier! It's a Vox AC15 which I'm still trying to figure out how to record properly.

Although the sound of this one is good, it sounds nothing like it did in the room that day.
