  • How many of the octopi asparagus root thingys did you plant to get such a full bed?

  • when are you going to have part 28? I can't wait till you have more videos!

  • We just had 5 days of rain. My plants are drenched. How did your garden hold up?

  • Greetings! Earlier this spring I wrote that it might be fun to have a Midwest version for square foot garden folks. Donna indicated that that would be fine (it would be okay to use her idea), So, I have put Our Family's Square Foot Garden on YouTube. Just search OFSFG for the first installment. Hope you enjoy! I hope to become a better narrator so please be patient with me on that! Also, I want to hear any suggestions about the garden folks might have. Thanks!

  • I watched your first video when the beds were just put in and you were waiting for sods. I really enjoy them all (hopefully I can catchup from part 1 to 27 :).

I wish my garden is big enough and round enough to put similar beds. Anyway, please keep posting and sharing results. Your progress is very helpful and is certainly a textbook example of SFG.

  • Thanks so much!

  • Thanks so much for watching!

  • Hi! I am getting ready to start a square foot garden, and found your videos through Google. I have sat here and watched your whole year's worth tonight. LOL I live in WV, so my experience would be somewhat different, but I will still look forward to watching more of your videos, as your garden progresses. I probably will start with 2, at the most, as it will be a bit of an expense for us, but I'm anxious to see how it works for me! It's great to meet you, and I hope to see lots of you!

  • Happy Gardening! Thanks for watching.

  • okay thanks for letting me know:)

  • Just wanted to let you know I bought my first Dianthus thanks to your recommendation. Great videos!

  • Thank you!

  • you know its heather to get up and walk right hahaha jkjk looks great

  • Do much more relaxing to sit and sip the java!

  • I couldn't believe how quickly your asparagus has grown in just 5 days. Incredible. I only have the equivalent of 3.5 4x4s, and practically every square is already planted out. Would love to have more - there are so many different varieties of vegetable to try out and we just don't have the room. Maybe one day if we ever have our own garden.

  • Oops! My two videos were recorded 1 month apart, so don't be fooled. But even still, they grew very fast! Lots of rain!

  • I enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing! I started my first vegetable garden this year check out my videos and tell me what you think! keep the videos coming!

  • Hey Donna, today i got some asparagus seeds and i was wondering if you could give me some advise how to start them , im starting them inside because we might still have a frost next week, the temp is going down to the low 40's.

  • Oh, I wish I could help! I started my asparagus with 1 and 2 year old crowns, so I did not start from seed. I hear it is just as good from seed though, just takes a little longer.

  • Donna,

Great looking crops! I am beginning to get my Earthboxes in order for the season! I am so excited about the spring season. Can't wait to continue seeing how your garden grows this year.

    Happy Gardening!

  • Thanks for watching!

  • Hi, I've enjoyed watching your videos. I'm planting a square foot garden for the first time this year. Yesterday I planted some swiss chard. I noticed how large your swiss chard is and was wondering will you havest the entire plant or do you pick leaves as you need them? What is the best way to prepare the swiss chard? Fresh in salad or cooked like spinach? Thanks so much!

  • Hi! I pick the leaves as needed and saute my swiss chard with a little garlic and olive oil. Sometimes I put the baby leaves in a salad for color. Happy Gardening!

  • kaczerm is right. we are very jealous of you having wonderful broccoli growing already. my greatest accomplishment is some radish seedlings that are doing great in a container. here's to spring! thanks for the video.

  • Cheers!

  • Mornings in the garden with a cup of coffee. That's one of the little pleasures that make life excellent. Simple, yet very satisfying. :)
