Just a note to everyone, when it is done as a showcase performance like this, they often times take out the character elements and do a different arrangement. Out of context, doing a character bit can be confusing for the audience. I think she nailed her arrangement.
I don't mind Mandy Moore sometimes..I think she was perfect in Saved..but this just totally missed the mark. There is no point in doing this song without the character..it's more about the character than the vocals..and she just turned one of the greatest musical theatre songs into a bad pop song..I am left baffled.
Don't get me wrong, she nailed the slow part, but the rest was WAAAAAAYYYY too sped up and made me die a little inside. :( Also she's too...herself. I felt no connection between her and the character at all. No Brooklyn accent, no touch of "illness", nothing. Overall I give this performance a low rating of 7/20

i have yet to find someone who can sing this song as good as the girl who plays adelaide in my school's musical!

It's a bit jazzed up isn't it? The song is meant to be sort of sad and fed up.

Needs the character.. Not just the vocals... And what happened to the tempo????

She has a great voice, but it sounds like something you'd hear on the radio...and not in a good way.

vocally it's beautiful. But there's not a character. Adelaide is a really fun character to play, but if you don't do it right it's useless.

I liked it, kind of a modern take. Just saw this play at my rival school, and loooved it.
Maybe a bit poppy, but I like her attitude.

she messed up the lyrics...

ya like the vocals may be fine, but her voice is wayyy too poppy and not in character at all.

Well, she totally nailed that, as an impromptu actress and as a singer.
