  • I love the Lynx but I hate, hate, HATE the way the lines are arranged on the screen vertically, it really stuffs up the playability. You can really see it at 4:01...

  • I don't like this review. I think the Atari Lynx is a great console.

  • u actually got 66% percent and u had to get 65% percent or mor

  • this review was AWESOME!

  • (continued) With R-Type. The shield did not last forever in either hard or easy mode (Pressing and holding A for a long time would eventually drain the shield for a while, and as you went on it became less and less effective) but the laser does fire continuously in either mode. Basically, hard mode was easy mode but faster. As you move on to later levels, it gets progressively harder. There were a lot of good games like Chip's Challenge, AVP, among others. I used to love mine until it died. :)

  • The Atari Lynx actually was a pretty decent at the time. The Game Boy was 8 bit, like the NES, while the Lynx was a true 16 bit system like the SNES. So at the time it was like having a portable Super Nintendo, when at the time the alternatives were the Game Boy and the Game Gear, both of which did about as well as can be expected. The heavy size and battery useage of the Lynx were definitely a detriment. But there were some good games. Gates of Zendocon actually was a decent game, on par (Cont)

  • on 6:54 looks like metriod having baby

  • As for shit on design, check out the fact the Lynx NEVER overheated, and did offer a power pack with their four way interactive link, all included with the system. Large, but the design was for ease of holding after MANY hours. (The clips you don't know about are the straps so you can put the weight on your neck) Isn't it funny that the Game Boy Advance stole the exact LYNX design and button placement later? Sometimes, the other guys design can make your system better.

  • Now, the Game QIX was an old Arcade game from 1981, when the most advanced game system was the Atari 2600. It is considered the FIRST puzzle game, like Tetris. You are right, not everything is up to what's advanced in your day, but then again, it was that or jump rope. Your right, the graphics were the draw, but the follow up was crap. Do remember, repetitive isn't always bad, as Chess and any shooter game is just that. Some info about QIX from Wikipedia will prove shit.

  • Had both in your vid, + Sega Game Gear. The Atari had the BEST pic quality for the time. (The one you have is short, which means somebody enjoyed it for years.) The CA games game sucked, but it was one of the free 2 games you got with the system. Good games are Chip's Challenge, and Batman. They just didn't come out with enough as Atari was going thru a bad time and failed soon after.

  • your doing what alot of people do with the atari lynx your saying it sucks because the console is big! I hate when people do that, it had gread specs for 1989

  • that is huge

  • Guys, enable annotations. He already said that the video is a "bit biased". So if you don't want that,go watch something.

  • hahahah you got diahrrea

  • atari lynx sucks super monkey balls :)

  • I JUST SAW THE GAME GEAR REVIEW BEFORE THIS

HE REACHED PUBERTY BECAUSE HE TALKS LIKE A BITCH HERE!!!

    AWESOME KID,

  • My brain hurts.

    Mi cerebro me duele.

    Mi cérébro m'a duele.

    マイル脳m'a duele。

  • Nintendo : UR DOIN IT WRONG

  • U overact your reviews it sucks bt true and your not funny at all

  • U should Hav Used the restart Button

    I Saw 1

  • The title screen of California games remind me of Sonic Rush...

  • I agree with others you didn't give it a chance. You immediately dismissed it based off of size. Also, you fail to mention that this was actually finished in 1987. That's amazing. Also, some games were going to support battery saves but didn't come out.

You make fun of the 3d, but the GB could never do that.

There were maybe 15-20 really good GB games out of 700, compared to 15-20 on the lynx out of 100. You didn't really even have any of the classics like Chip's Challenge or Blue lightning.

  • You didn't give the Lynx a chance. Even the way you said 'Atari Lynx' was a disregarding moan. The Lynx was way ahead of its time. The design was finished in 1987 and even when it was released in 1989 it was more powerful than home consoles. You have to give the Lynx some respect.

  • nintendo/sony cool

  • atari lame

  • i was born 13 years ago and that looks awesome!!

  • @ThrillaSkill same

  • check this out: v=buq7DJMXM4U

you certainly don't get this quality of a game on your beloved Gameboy.....

  • Ok i do agree that the review should have gave the Atari Lynx a bit more credit but if you disagree with the review just leave the video if you agree with the review then ok

people no matter who are going to have a differnet a opinion.

  • He's not old enough to remember GB release.

  • lynx love please, maybe you had to have been there

  • THE PORTABILETY MAKES THE GAME

  • the grafix on lynx are better then some super nintendo games

  • the game gear is better

  • I think that the lynx is better than the gameboy

  • @nkmetossa Ok? Why? :P

  • @Vectrex4Life color display better graphics

  • @nkmetossa Ok, well what it all comes down to is games. Lynx didn't really have any "great or awesome" games. Gameboy has way better games. Plus you can play them on a GBC for some color! It really sucks I've actually played one before.

  • @Vectrex4Life i know the gbc is better but it came out in 1998 9 years after the lynx

  • @nkmetossa Yeah good point.

  • california game s was alos on the nes and was pretty fun. but you suck at it

  • Comment removed

  • game boy black & white? black & green that is

  • i like the atari lynx

  • Nice review, I had heard of the Lynx, but I'd never seen one being used until now. LOL they're so massive, and 6 AA batteries? if you ever went to a relative's house you'd have to carry a bag for your Lynx (cause it sure as hell isn't gonna fit in any pocket) and a bag for a shit ton of batteries, haha. And about the "load time" for booting up the lynx, the Game boy/GB pocket/ GB light had a similar load time. They just had the nintendo emblem glide down while it loaded to distract you :p.

  • 1989?????? you're right I don't believe you

  • Awww, he's got diarrhea!

  • Hmmm, your voice sounds EXACTLY like mine...I'm a 32 year old woman BTW

  • @potatoegirl31 haha. i also wonder if he was already born when the atari lynx came out

  • i doubt 1989, maybe 1999?

  • @SuperSonicShot Nope, 1989.

  • the lynx sucks

  • This kid's not old enough, he doesn't understand.

This console is older than him...........Respect yours elders kido!!

    A poor review.

  • that was the smaller version of the Lynx I had the long one it was huuuuge!!!

  • Fuck this 12 year old faggot

  • @6Mega6Man6 Really? You judge people entirely off of their voices? In that case, I think maybe I and my unnaturally deep voice should talk to you about manners and how in comparison to me, using your own system of judgment, you are a frightened 6 year old. The funniest part is how I know that when you read this, you won't even legitimately think about your response, as you most likely think quite rarely, but rather react to stimuli with complete and utter disregard for anything in existence.

  • @adawg121235 Yeah I know. He's like 20. His reviews are biased, though.

  • the eye monster thing's laugh sounds like billy the puppets laugh

  • "smaller is better" yes keep telling yourself that haha

  • Qix is such an obscure game. I remember playing it in the arcades.

  • hey peoples what do you think i should get the game gear or the lynx there some lynx games i am enterested in same with game gear but if i get a lynx i will make sure to get a model 1 that way people on the school bus will tremble in fear with them playing with their iphones i will be playing rampage on a game system thats so huge people will cry LOL

  • The Lynx was the best hand held system of the '90s, far superior to the Game Gear and especially the Game Boy (though I liked that, too). The graphics were always quite sharp and colorful. I still have mine and like to take it out now and then for a little nostalgic trip.

  • I don't know if anyone mentioned this already but those metal tabs were for a strap that you put through there. If I remember it was so you could carry the system like a duffel bag.

  • facepalm

if hes from 1989 then i'm a fucking kangaroo. Seriously hes complaining about password games and 3d graphics on a portable from 1989! Only a kid who has been spoiled from the newer xbox 360 and ps3 games would have this kind of opinion. I call shenanigans good sir.

  • What is it with these people who just look for stuff to complain about? The Atari Lynx was way ahead of any portable, even non-portable, system of it's time. You could play Desert Strike on it for Pete's sake. The game boy only won out because Atari didn't make enough of these to go round at Christmas time so parents just grabbed the next available PGS. The graphics were great (colour anyone?), some games were absolutely brilliant and you could run it off of mains when you were home...

  • @BakaHULK okay he did grasp at straws a little here, but he still has some good points. 6 battereys? That is some shit right there!

  • @Laughtraxx Yeah 6 batteries is a lot but it's only two more than a game boy and 3-4 hours running time on 6 AAs is actually quite good for it's time. Batteries are 100 times better and cheaper these days so it shouldn't matter now and you can run it off of mains. The back light button is there to switch the back light off during a paused game , so that the batteries last longer. It's comfortable to use with the larger grips and the big colour screen trumps all.

  • What you are forgetting the Atari Lynx is that it is the first 16-bit colour handheld. It had hardware sprite rotation. A feature not seen in other consoles till the SNES. It was released in 1989.Hardware wise it was miles ahead. Yes... the battery life wasn't as great as the gameboy. But the LCD was colour and BACKLIT.. California Games is fun dude. There are some awesome games for Lynx, Try STUN RUNNER or APB. They are excellent arcade conversions available. Keep your percpective. it was 1989

  • @TacoinATux

hey, dont go crazy, the guy is just saying that lynx is 16 bit, and gameboy is just 8 bit,

dont go crazy, and make an ass out of your self the next time you dont fully realize what the other person is trying to elaborate on

  • @tehlastninja

    bits don't make a console,

    (jaguar)

  • @frozenkiller7 well spotted. bits dont make a console. correct. the only thing that let this device down was its lack of 3rd party software support. Im a big atari fan so having close to arcade quality conversions of Stun Runner, APB and hard drivin to name a few is awesome on a handheld that came out at at time when its competitor had 4 shades of grey on yellow for graphics. Not to poo poo the gameboy. but hardware wise the lynx is superior.

  • @tehlastninja

that may be true, but otherwise the atary lynx was a bomb,

the advantages, at the time, were very cool, but its disadvantages outweigh the advantages

you are right about the technology being more advanced, but nothing else is, t

  • nintendo good atari bad

  • First handheld ever that I owned was the brick known as the gameboy :p back then I never even heard of the lynx or the gamegear.

  • @linkfourz is 12

  • BAD loading time? where??

    I dont see it..

  • The metal tabs were to attach a neckstrap that was available to the Lynx.

  • @linkfourz meh, i think it is

  • wow u dont sound 20yo xP hehe (date of upload)

  • By the way, when I was 12 my first console was the Philips G7000. That was a machine but awesome fun even though it had very poor graphics and sounds! Kids like you are nowadays more than spoilt with whats on the market....

  • Sorry kid, but why do you actually bother reviewing the Atari Lynx console from the early 90s when you werent actually born?? Kids like you are nowadays extremely spoilt! You want it all and fast of course, all in perfect color, 3D, surround sound, compact, portable and the list goes on! Hey, this was 1991!!!! I had the Lynx and it was awesome!!!! Most of the games were logic related, thats why I never got bored! It's sad these doesnt exist anymore!!!!

  • you suck baliko2007 the atari lynx was a brick and not that all portebal

  • @baliko2007 He's not a kid... He's in his twenties. He is not some random kid who loves his Xbox or Ps3, he's a retro gamer.

  • @baliko2007 This guy was born in 1989. He's 22 right now. Get your facts straight before you decide to comment

  • @baliko2007 He was born in 89. Dont be an ass till you know the facts. No offence tho

  • @baliko2007

what does it matter if he reviews the lynx? i have an nes and i love it. am i not allowed to like things from 2000 and down?

this guy reviews the stuff on a logical standpoint,

it may have been cool at the time, but try playing it today, and realize what the game truly is today

  • @frozenkiller7 All I said is that you need to keep in mind this was back in 1991. That's 20 years and it makes little sense like this kid to bitch about the Lynx that criticizes everything up front because it is too heavy, big, lousy graphics, gameplay etc. The Lynx was a huge innovation with its 16-bit colours, backlight, 64kb. Sure it had issues, but it was like you were having a portable Commodore C128 and could play the same games on it. Like I said, that was 20 years ago...

  • @frozenkiller7 By the way, according to Wikipedia, in 2008 Atari was honored at the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for pioneering the development of handheld games with its Lynx game unit.

  • @baliko2007 AND got 5/5 Stars.

  • This kid is an idiot. The Atari Lynx was fucking awesome for its time.

  • Well I fink that Cleaco had it at first, naming it the 'Handi', then they gave it up, sold it to Atari, and sonn after the company failed miserably and closed it's doors...

  • What does a kid no about retro

  • Perhaps you should review equipment that was made AFTER you were born. You just don't get it. If you wanted the best arcade ports from the time, the Lynx was the portable to get. Not to mention, it was the first color portable on the market.

Oh well, you could just fire up your Gameboy Color, right? Oh wait, they didn't make one until NINE years after the Lynx was released. Why don't you just go play Pokeman and leave the Atari games for adults...

  • @BufferOverflow1 are you saying that pokemon is stupid?

  • @angelpichu1

Well I personally think it is, however I used it more as an example of a timeframe reference for Tweeterboy.

  • @BufferOverflow1 oh...ok i'm sorry (i am the biggest fan of pokemon upto the point that i know all 495 pokemon names their types and whatlevel they evolve into just in case you wanted to know :) )

  • 6:55 - Rofl'd

  • Nintendo won for a lot of different reasons, hell I could write a full dictionnary out of them.

From the ergonomy and gameplay, to the screen quality, to the battery life and last but not least THE gaming library, the Lynx was bound to become a failure and The Game Boy a total winner.

I'm still playing my original non colored GB Games to this day and having a huge blast.

While I've definitively dropped the lynx forever after ruining my eyes and my fingers on it...What a waste of money !

  • Let's not forget the best game the adventures of Todd in slime world I loved that game

  • nintendo beats all sadly... :'(

  • @EliteMusic99 And rightfully so...The lynx is the worst console i ve ever bought and it speaks volume for its crapiness...The original GB rapes it big frickin time in every single area possible and I started with a lynx cause I was an Atari Mark...But it was so awful i ended up with the less powerful non colored GB and realized why Nintendo was born a winner and Atari a loser...And guess which company is still number one while the other is history...Ah yeah NOT Atari...

  • he is not born in 89, i would beleive 97 at the most, he is not 21(this year 2010), he has the voice of a 13 year old at the lowest

  • @Demidearest You my friend are flatout stupid

  • Alright we get the point the gameboy was better. And I completely agree. But the Atari lynx was pretty ahead of it's time because of the fact it was back lit and it was in color. I mean give it some credit. But yes if I was a kid back in 1990 I would have picked the game boy anyway because at least it was portable. And the games were better.

  • The camera makes your voice higher

  • atari destroyed gaming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheUltraX How did they distroy it they starded it

  • "I like it alot more smaller" thats what she said lol

  • This kid was born in 89!!

  • @TheBeantown12

No he just doesn't have any testicles.

  • @TheBeantown12 I don't believe it. It's a voice of a 12 year old. And if this person really was born in 89....daaaamn, feel sorry for him.

  • The Atari Is Huge!!!

  • why bother playing old games at all if you are just going to criticise and ridicule them… shooting fish in a barrel if you ask me.

  • why would they not have save games? because it was really expensive to do battery backed saves when the lynx came out

  • ur way to impatant to be born in 1989 and its sounds like ur eather gay or ur vioce hasnt changed yet

  • Comment removed

  • Get a mobile site for for your website

  • qux is fun, i love how you got EXACTLY 65% which was the threshold :P

  • Size matters!

  • @cant1rac totally agree w u. I'm mean dude color screen AND a backlight?! I would've been lik this is the shit! It took nintendo another 13 years before color and a backlight! And the lynx did it in 89! Sega did 2 in 97! I really didn't know the game gear existed. The lynx was before my time. I thought only nintendo made handhelds, and so I was limited to playing genesis and playstation in my basement.

  • Totally biased and unfair review.

The tabs are for a strap.

As for a batter... You try putting a battery in that small of a cart.

It's always been recommended by game manufacturers to turn the system off before changing games. It's NOT a CD based system. As for Qix, THAT'S HOW THE GAME PLAYED IN THE ARCADE.

So you have better things to do than wait 2 freaking seconds? ADHD much?

The lynx was a technical marvel in the time it was released. It still is.

  • @inkyatari Not really, true i do disagree with this review, but it's not true that it's a technical marvel, just look at the game gear, it's a little thinner, the screen was about the same and the batteries lasted the same length of time, if not the game gear had longer life, i personally think the gameboy was better than both, so yeah this review is very biased and i dont like it, however the lynx wasn't that great of a system either.

  • @pikachu7567 The Lynx was released in 1989. The game gear was released in 1991. Ergo, the Lynx was the first handheld color game system, and therefore it was a technical marvel.

    I rest my case.

  • @inkyatari But it did all of that poorly. It wasn't portable, it ate batteries, it was in mono sound, it didn't have third party support. So yeah some marvel the lynx is.

  • @pikachu7567 I get it. Despite the fact it DID THINGS THAT HAVE NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE, it's not a marvel.

Oh great one, how could I have been so wrong! Please forgive me!

  • @inkyatari The atari lynx is a fantastic system don't get the wrong assumption. Just dont call it a marvel when it isn't. Because i could invent the world's fastest razor by duct taping razor blades to a fan. Would that be a marvel?

  • awesome....

  • you can't possibly appreciate this you was even born when it was made!

At the time is was cutting edge, more powerful than the game gear and game boy, a pioneer in hardware and awesomeness!!!!

  • @prectec dude, he is 21......

  • @prectec and, by extension, does apreciate this, but as he says in a later vid, he did not have a good game selection

  • really you have three off the worst games ever released on the lynx not a fair comparison, try shadow of the beast, hard drivin, lemmings, ninja gaiden 3, paperboy, road blaster.

really slower frame rate, mono sound, lower graphical capablities, and much lower proccesor power and monochrome.

i struggle to see how the gameboy took off.

and remember the big game libary only came about cause sega and atari failed to take the number one slot even though they were both vastly superiour machines

  • really unfair reveue

it was atari's bad marketing and inital high launch price compared with nintendo, gameboy that killed the system.(though the price quickly dropped in line with it)

a lot of negative nintendo pr utilising the bigger batterydrain.

which is a given, since its about ten times as powerful.

really you are comparing with the worst lynx title...its a dog.

but the machine and majority of titles are fantastic.

seam a massively biased review, from a nintendo fan boy

  • I don't think it sucks, i do think the gameboy is better mind you, but it had good games and a great screen for the time. And sure it was big, obviously not thebest handheld ever, but it sure as hell doesnt suck. This is probly the only one of your reviews that i dont agree with.

  • hey i didn't like california games either... but that game wasn't only for the lynx... every system (SMS NES, everything!!!) at the time had that game. the shooter, well that was the first level. shooters are always easy on the first level. the other qix game has been done quite a bit... there is a newer computer mini game similar but it was a ball that you have to trap.

  • I gotten my Lynx in 2008 and the second model just recently. I actually have some references to fairly criticize despite how recent I gotten them.

Honestly you come off oblivious and biased to others the way you reviewed the Lynx.

  • I don't know if you can really judge a system with only 3 games.

  • bull crap really man ??? say what ya got to say......bullshnitzel!!!

  • you review these systems like someone took away your rattle beforehand.

  • TKE's review had the bigger one

  • The system looks like crap

  • ok, lets put it in this way,

    the cake, are the customers

the gb and lynx are both knifes,

    the companys are plates

the gameboy was a good knife, easy and smooth, so was able to get the cake and put it in the plate

the lynx... was hard, bendy, and hard to handle, so ended up dropping the cake,

so in the end, nintendo won the cake

  • @MrLGamer

    The cake is a lie

  • @MrLGamer the cake is a lie.

  • @MrLGamer nicely made exploitation of the gb & lynx

  • @MrLGamer this makes no sense because the cake is a lie...

  • @MrLGamer well said :D

  • @MrLGamer Nntendo invited sega for a piece of that cake. Thus, the Game Gear was born!

  • @MrLGamer the cake is a lie

  • @MrLGamer it was a tasty cake

  • Lynx games play better on the Wii lol

  • I have a Lynx and three games-- Hydra, Hockey, and Chip's Challenge.

  • go lynx

  • bigger is better

  • i remember an episode of full house when the cousins of someone was there they pulled the atari LYNX out

  • @blingdaddy1 no offence but they were sega game gears

  • @OJB99 they were?

  • @blingdaddy1 Yeah that was in season six.

  • Come on kid, you werent even born when this system came out. You have no reference points to be critizing the Lynx. To us who were actually ALIVE when it was new, it was a pretty cool handheld.

  • @rojman123 Despite his voice, he is 21. It gets deeper in later videos.

  • @rojman123 yeah, but was heavy as a brick,

    plus,

    HES 21 YEARS OLD

  • Even though I didn't really like the Lynx II that much since I got one myself I still say this review is a little bit off. There more negatives than there are positives.

  • you sound cute

  • @TheRepublicOfJohn its a guy

  • Hah hah hah....that was funny. But you got no skills, son.

And if you want real loading times, take a look at what floppy disks on computers were like. Good Lord, you could take a nap while a game on your Atari 800 was loading.

  • 2:20 go megaman

  • Another Lynx video full off mistakes. The metal clips were for the carry strap, there are games that have battery back up, it loads because the 8 meg game cards use compression to hold more data, California Games was voted one of the best games of all time and the Lynx version is regarded the best, the first level on GoZ is stupid easy - it has 50 levels. Please do some research before making a video.

  • i got an atari lynx for 40 dollers

  • this is a laugh a kid doing a review for the lynx he doesnt even know what he is talking about ..... the lynx was a good game console

  • @devuurheer He's 20....... watch his faq video....

  • I really don't understand these recent (2009-2010) youtube videos criticizing handheld systems from 20 years ago. It's like criticizing computers from the 1950's when they took up entire rooms.

  • yer. dsiXL is way to big. i can't fit it in my pocket. and i have a atari lynx and comparison size, atari lynx is way bigger than the xl.

  • this videos is no good

  • thaose tabs may be 4 a strap or something

  • If you hate that thing so much, just send it to me. Thats a classic, of course its gonna be slow, and clunky. It was made in the 80's.

  • My computer loads longer that that.

  • It really doesn't take that long to load......idiot.

  • Lynx don't suck. It's a great console. I has this when i'm 5-8. It's Preety good.
