@helloimkailyn23 Thank you for your somewhat back-handed compliment. Sorry I had to delete it though because of your disrespect choice of words. Thanks for taking the time to comment though.
@helloimkailyn23 Oops, sorry about that then. I know the song mostly from hearing it on the radio. I saw Good Fellas a really long time ago and don't remember any of the movie lines. I figured it might be something like that, I should have asked, but those kind of comments in an intended diss are so common on YouTube.
@at90percent It's okay, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to offend, I really liked your cover, real talent. I play by ear on the piano, wish I could play as well as you.
"I listened to the actual recording before doing this one, so it's more accurate." That is what every other person says when they play a song on the piano!!!
C# is the correct key for this part of the song, but, during mixing the tape speed was increased slightly to result in a final, microtonal pitch of C-C#.
Hey pal, i was wondering if you could post a link or something to the sheet music. I've been looking for this for a very long time and would greatly appreciate if you were to share this.
@AXLROSE4LYF The sheet in front of me, you see on the piano, is a single sheet that I wrote the block chords on so that I could remember where I was in the song. Sorry.
you don't happen to have the tabs or sheet music would you? i've been trying to look for them everywhere and i love your version on youtube the best!!!
@trider23 Thanks! Funny I just learned another song from another YouTube poster myself. Bend & Break by Keane. I've been wanting to learn it for years. After watching this guy play it on his upright I was able to figure it out this weekend.
@NickScala Btw, the reason I called it "More Accurate" is because it is more accurate than the other version I posted. I never claimed it was accurate to the original. Also as of this writing there is no other version, other than the original that plays the part of the song that I play at 1:40.
Nice, man, I wish I knew how to play piano, especially since Layla is my favorite song. I can play drums very well, but that's an instrument that doesn't sound good by itself. Keep on playing, man!
Best way to play is to learn the theory. I took 6 years of lessons (reading sheet music). Quit for a few years when I went to college, then picked it back up by learning theory, and in 2 years of theory I'm far better than 6 years of lessons.
No, believe it or not I took accordian lessons for a short time. However, that didn't teach me how to play.
It was when I took music theory in high school. That was when I learned how to construct any chord I wanted to. Including how to do major and minor chords, major minor and dominant 7th chords, diminished and augmented chords and most important for doing Layla, suspended 4th chords.
The other thing music theory teaches is what chords are in a certain key.
I could only wish I could play like you do.... it must be nice to make music sound so good. Thanks for making some video's that we can listen to. Take care........
hey man u get the instrument and u set ur free time to playing that instrument i can almost garantee u can get good at it like u look at billy joel jimmy hendirx eric clapton all VERY good musicians some say they were born with the talent but i think everyone is born with it u just need to put some hard work into it and it shows i play drums guitar and piano EVERYDAY and i see imrpovement...everyday lol so get the instrument and practice
Ha, I just tried to play this on my own & found this video while searching for a sheet afterwards. Great work :-) I love this intersection from C to am over Abdim instead of E at 1:06 :-)
Damn you piano players who can play melody and bass at the same time, you don´t need us bass players!!! LOL. Seriously, I admire that capacity, I am a bass player and love the rhythm over everything else, but really admire these guys, playing bass/melody at the same time is damn hard.
I'll take that as a compliment then. The sheet you see on the piano in front of me, only has the hand written block chords. I used this to remind me of where I was in the song.
ATTA BOY at90percent !! A nice rendition. I too remember it from when I was a LOT younger - so long ago I bought it on a 8 track cassette so I could play the tune in my car !! One of my goals on the piano is to play this piano coda - so thanks for posting.
Hey, I appreciate all of the kind words and and the many requests for a tutorial.
I don't think I would be very good at doing a tutorial. It took me probably about 6 hours straight of take after take after take to get this one to be even acceptable.
Great job. I have watched a few more videos and I think you are the closest I have seen to the real song. I've been working on this for the past few days and I almost have it down. I have never been able to read sheet music so I learn by ear and by watching good videos like these. Thanks for the vid it has helped me a lot. Oh and I am liking the keyboard. I have the same one as you.
Wow, great job! I have been looking for this sheet music for a long time. I've picked out the first part by ear, and by following your hands I can see I've been right. Now I just have to keep watching you to get the rest! Oh, and I'm playing harp, not piano. Its one of my favorite pieces of music and you do it justice. Thanks!
Of course I like it! It's accurate and you have great touch. As far as I see it, it is as follows: C C/E F C C/E F Bb7 C C/E F Bb7 C C/B Amin Dmin (Bass Hand E F G) G C Abdim/B Amin D/F# G Then it repeats, following the same general pattern. These are the basic chord "outlines", what you really play in the right hand is up to you. P.S. (Note)/(Note) means a chord played with the note after the slash being played in the bass hand. I hope this helps, and thanks again at90!
Man, I've got to hand it you, I am not a musician but I appreciate the amount of time you have spent on learning this piece. I'm sure you spent countless hours listening for every detail and it shows. Awesome job ! I am currently learning how to play the piano (self taught) and I check out YouTube all the time for everyone's post. You really did this song justice and my hats off to you. One song I plan to learn is Green Eyed Lady (long version) by Sugarloaf. Keep up the awesome work bud.
Thanks, I'm self taught too. I took accordian lessons when I was in 8th grade and learned the basics. The rest I learned from a music theory course I took in 10th grade.
Most importantly from that course I learned the formula that taught me how to construct any chord I could want to play on the piano.
That was the gold.
I hope you can post Green Eyed Lady when you're done. I'd love to hear it.
I think I interpreted all the chords pretty well for myself but can you list them all sequentially here? I'll put in the melody myself. I'd appreciate it. :)
I'm not sure that you appreciate how difficult and time consuming it would be for me to do that. I learned the song by ear, so I don't have it documented anywhere.
Thanks. Just a little tip for you. My left hand for the most part is playing octaves. So even though you can only see half of my hand(bad camera angle) you still know what the other half of my hand is playing.
Hope you can post it when you're done. I'd like to hear how you make out.
I like it in that key of C too, i lean it in C Sharp because i took it off the record,i think they moved the pitch up a half step, not to sure on that
Wow, it's the exact same pitch as the real song! It's hard to make it sound like original because the record was sped up during mixing, so the pitch was microtonal, between C and C sharp.
Sadly, I don't have sheet music for it. I had downloaded a Layla MIDI file that I was able to print out in sheet music form in order to get the jist of how to play it. It was quite inaccurate to the real song. In fact the other version of Layla I did was based more directly on the MIDI file.
