  • "Mr. Jones and me, we see each other much anymore"

  • Ahhh, my favorite band. So good in fact that at times of my life when I feel depressed, the music, lyrics and use of piano and guitar, make me slow down, breathe, and understand my feelings, something i have trouble doin bein a man.. But this music lets down my barrier, and consumes my negativity, into positive believing.

  • @Ajayrazr Amen I got a whole list of songs I go through to get myself through those tuff times.

  • I love this song, his version makes me smile every time I hear it. =o) Adam has a beautiful voice, and a beautiful soul.

  • best version ever!!!!

could anybody tell me, if they record it and put it on an album?

  • @ErwinvanB

The album is called "Across the Wire- Live from New York City" I think it's on itunes.

  • CC reminds me of countless days driving to my dads house when he would pick us up

  • This is by far the most emotionally stirring version of this song I have ever heard. Thank you for posting!

  • I like the different lyrics, thanks for putting this version up.

  • I love the lines from Miller's Angels thrown in at the end.

  • AWESOME song. Takes me back.

  • watch?v=ZNdzyxqqw2E with video and full interview

  • /watch?v=ZNdzyxqqw2E full and with Video

  • nice accordion, it's just so harmonic!

  • memories....

  • Which Album is this on?

  • @SchrodingersDreads It's on the live compliation "Across a Wire: Live in New York". The Vh1 Storytellers disc, specifically.

Also, it is, in my humble opinion, the best version of the song by far.

  • @Nintenuendo Thanks muchly! And you sir/madam should not be so humble about your opinion. Because I guarantee you many of the Counting Crows fans agree with you. This version is just so......real. There's no other way to describe it other than a stone cold yet incredibly refreshing dash of reality. It's just like being punched in the face by the truth. And the truth hurts, in a good way. Thanks again :)

  • Haven't listened to these versions in a long long time. As a kid I used to have this double disk on repeat all the time.

Thanks for putting it up whomever did it.

  • sometimes i wish we were famous...but then....

  • Any song in acoustic just shows so much more emotion and a vulnerability that you can't get using technology. I personally would prefer to hear a song acoustic rather than a studio version.

  • this is what is missing from modern music, emotion best versin with out a doubt

  • i can't stop hearing this song :D

  • Where'd music like this go? I remember growing up with this on the radio and everybody was a Counting Crows fan. I really do miss that.

  • I read over two pages of comments before I decided to post. You people crack me up. Mr. Jones isn't in the least symbolic, it is exactly what it is. He and Marty were out drinking, and thinking about how good they'd have it if they were big time stars. Yet the original song was intended to be a warning to people, be careful what you ask for, you just might get it. People didn't get it. So after Adam's breakdown, he made it clearer. You still don't get it, ROFL.

  • @skadifirst as far as i know, music is literature, and literature is interpreted according to the person reading it, or in music's case, listening to it. there is no right or wrong way to look at it. You interpret it how you interpret it. don't troll just because people don't explain it like you.

  • Far better than the studio version (and any other versions)

I'm not sure why this band is generally spoken of with such disdain. Sure, they're a bit cheesy, and some of their songs are very poppy, but c'mon - compared with most of the stuff coming out today, at least they play their instruments fairly well and write good lyrics!

And this is coming from someone who mostly listens to extreme metal and avant-garde music!

  • Simple and simply the best performance i have heard of the song. Unlike most of the live performances, he lets a classic ballad be what it is.

  • Nice version.. but I think they could have made a completely different song instead.

  • @Crishaana

that was the stupidest thing I have heard in a long time

  • @scottygggg That is the rudest comment I have heard from someone who cannot tolerate an opinion that differs from his.

  • @Crishaana

you're opinion was ridiculous, obviously they could have made a different song, that's completely irrelevant.

  • @scottygggg It was relevant to me cause in their place I would have composed another song cause I really love the intro with the accordion. I don't see the point of arguing with you. You're rude because you don't care about my feelings when you say it's ridiculous and when I posted my original comment, I didn't ask you to comment back on it.

  • i like to sit back and drink a beer to songs like this

  • @aimforcody

    amen to that

  • omg LOVE this version and am a huge counting crows fan :)

  • I love the contrast between this version which was made a few years after the original

  • I just love love love this version! I`ve always loved the original. Never thought I would love another version like ten times more...

  • i love this version so much.

  • does anyone know what cd this is from? I have been trying to find it everywhere. Or if anyone has it could you email it to me? lucybell0911@yahoo.com

  • @lucybell0911 it's from there live album "Across a Wire".

  • I've never listened to this version before! It is nice but I prefer the original because it has more energy

  • i absolutely love this song. my music teacher introduced me to counting crows and this version of mr jones was the very first i heard.

no matter what it always makes me mellow out and smile. the beautiful use of accordian gives the song tremendous texture.

i would truelly love to cover this song in university

  • AMAZING gotta love the heart he puts into this song.. check out my version well its basicly me ging mental to mr jones with my guitar hahahahaha.. enjoi

  • I love both versions.. Shalalalalalala, yeah...^_^

  • I love the snippet at the beggining, "So You Want To Be A Rock'n'Roll Star" by The Byrds. It fits perfectly into the acoustic start of the song, and the meaning fits in too. I love this version.

  • So different but so beautiful like the original

  • this version is just untouchable!!!

  • Mr Jones is the singer's dick. He says otherwise, but that's my favorite interpretation.

  • Same as with the original, you wake up feeling down, put on this song and suddenly ur the happiest person alive. Tnx CC for brining some sunshine in the world.

  • mr jones is a bottle of whiskey

  • @indiekid2106

No, Mr. Jones is Marty Jones, and friend of Adam Durtiz and former bass player of The Himalayans.

  • This version is not available on itunes, on what was it recorded??

  • @TheJanJerry this version was on Across a Wire, their live from NY album.

  • This is definitely my favorite version of this song. Takes me back...I was 18 in 1998. Good times.

  • been looking for this version for so long.. LOVE IT!

  • Bellissima questa versione!!!

  • Have you seen my wife?

  • I lOve this version too!! is just amazing this sOng remember me , my dad!!

  • great version from Live Across a Wire Disc 1 Vh1 Storytellers

  • Hell yeah! Jockin Jam. Good chill music. I love the counting crows

  • I wish I was beautiful

  • Awesome, been looking for this for such a long time :D <3 5 stars + fav

  • WOW! get the chill every time i listen! Damn that version with accordion is AWESOME!

  • I love the Counting Crows!!!

  • God... that last line "Mr. Jones and me, we don't see each other much anymore" has got to be the most depressing thing I've ever heard.

  • @TheRunningamuck

I absolutely agree. Completely changes the feeling of the song, but in a good way. Just seems more meaningful and, I guess, real, this way.

  • Bloody rythm, perfect song

  • Chords are

    Am, F (sharp), Dm, G

    Am, F (sharp) G, G

    (chorus; C, F, G, G)

the way you play it in this verison is; play bass root, and then the G and B string a few times until you switch chords

the chorus is strummed if i'm not mistaken

play around with it a bit, and you'll get how it works

    i hope this helps :)

  • I love how he hads part of miller's angels

  • yeah thats cool

  • cell phone tabs or guitar tabs ?

  • cell phone tabs?

  • best version ever!

  • @kanyechain o yes mate it sure iz

  • yes sir, best version... beautiful

  • this is the best version of the song.

  • I love this version of the song.

  • What song is the:

"Well can't you hear me, cuz I'm screamin

I did not go outside yesterday

Oh don't wake me cuz I was dreaming

And I might just stay inside again today"

Cuz Mr Jones and me, we don't see each other much anymore

Leading into the end of course, part from? I know Adam sometimes meshes songs together.

  • it's miller's angels, another one of their songs

  • the orginal is amazing, but this is phenominal!

    absolutely love it !

  • does anyone know where I can get the sheet music for the accordion in this song?

  • where exactly would I be able to find this recording of Mr. Jones? It is far superior to any other version I have heard.

  • This song is in the "Across the wire live in new york city"..play it with multiple speakers, it will blow your mind

  • thank you so much!

  • never heard this-- this is much better than the original

  • I was a big CC fan when AAEA first came out. I've seen them live about 5 times, but with every album I've liked them less and less. Through each album, they've tried to experiment, but This Desert Life was their last great, artistic album. Hard Candy was OK, American Girls was lame but Holiday in Spain saved it... and "Accidentally in Love" was an embarrasement.

  • Man these are my thoughts exactly. After the first two albums it's over. A couple of good songs here and there. August and everything absolute masterpiece.

  • This is a fairly common phenomena in pop music, the sophomore album follow-up dilema: Band comes out with a great 1st and maybe second album and never can follow it up with something as good. There are so many factors that work against it. Bands that manage to write and produce great stuff consistently for decades are rare and or lucky.

  • I feel sorry for you because I like all of their first 4 albums. Hardy candy is probably my least favorite and is kinda commercial but the other three are great in their own right. I think it's asking a lot for a band to produce the same album over and over for the duration of their career especially a band as creative as the Crows. It takes a better band to produce something new and fresh and still fit with the band's image and sound.

  • Mr Jones isnt AD's alter ego, it is a real person named Marty Jones who was a part of CC before they made it big and were called The Himalayans. Him and Adma were sitting in a bar one day talking about how easy it would be to pick up chicks if they were famous......hence the song.

  • Don't think SS/SM was a BAD album exactly - just not on a par as a whole album with their others - come back to it after a few months and you'll realise just how many tracks have seeped their way into your soul when you weren't looking! A grower... This version of MJ is just beautiful. This is what Adam does best.

  • Awesome.

  • (PROJECT MKULTRA/DID) Mr. Jones>>>ad's alter-ego? Jones is one of the most common names in America. He has SOLD his SOUL for FAME and regrets it sometimes. IMHO.

"When everybody loves me I'm gonna be about as f#$%ed up as I can be" (another version I saw when I was a brainwased fan at a concert)

  • how does it feel to be completely insane?

  • heard this version too. Had the same effect.

  • nah, mr jones (not real name) was a friend of his, and this song was originally them sitting around at a bar and saying how great it would be if they were famous rock stars. this version is a reflection a few years later on how wrong he was, that whatever he was missing in his life could not be replaced with fame and fortune. example: being where in the original he says that "we all want to be big stars but we got different reasons for that" changes to "but then we get second thoughts about that

  • @district942 also, for the record, Marty Jones was the later bassist in the Himalayans with Duritz

  • @district942 mr jones was his real name. Marty jones

  • @district942 yes mate exactly that in one.. this is about following your dreams and this version is fuking amazing he puts so much heart into it i love it..

check out my video im going mental to this song but not the acoustic version lol.. i love it AMAZING..

  • @district942 this song is about adam duritz and the bassist of his previous band the himalyans, Marty Jones...aka Mr. Jones

  • @district942 it is the real name :P mr jones is Marty Jones, a member of the band The Himalayans with Adam and they were close friends during that time.

  • Comment removed

  • @district942 his name was actually Marty Jones

  • Comment removed

  • very deep, but i know what you mean.:)

  • I love the deconstruction of his songs when he's live, then rebuilding them mixed with some other songs.

    awesome

  • this is by far the best version ever. for years i have seached dl sites to try to acquire this version. i downloaded it like 10 years ago, then i lost it, and could never find it again. goddamn i love this version. best version that was ever or will ever be made. mmmmmm.

  • It's on the awesome two-disc album "Across A Wire: Live in New York" (I THINK it's New York :P) I'd definately recommend it!! If you like this then on the blue disc like every track is one of their more electric songs taken apart and made softer and beautiful - really brings out the character of the songs :) (sorry for the rambling :P)

  • very nice

  • They did this version at Hershey apparently and my coworkers don't appriciate the musicality it takes to change your melody and your entire arrangement.

  • God, bassbishop42. Shut up!
