there is no python that accepts captivity better, is more hardy... and easier to feed. Certainly, they require less expertise than most Antaresia and are more relaxed than the majority of Carpets.
but because they don't have heat pits, they have a very strong feeding response, which means that at night especially, when they think or know food is on offer they will try to eat anything that comes near them so basically not handling them at night or if you smell of rats etc is a smart move.
"they never refuse a meal" - you're right about that one!
lucky you didn't get a snappy one...
Once they have reached adult size I have never owned or seen a woma that wants to bite out of aggression or out of fear. All their bites are related to food. When handling them, as with many species of python, it is a good idea to wash your hands and arms with a strong smelling soap so that errors of mistaken identity are avoided.
nice woma i myself have several and they never refuse a meal they eat abything and will chomp down on your hand or arm sometimes, mine do it all the time they just nub the head against your hand/arm and chomp, everything to them is food they dont strike its just a normal response to eat everything they think is food i also own several morelia spilotas and chondros soon to make some videos i have a album on Alex Hues reptile forum under chondro10 but womas are my fav and breed easy good luck bro
this is what made me want to get a woma! and i am happy to say that exactly a week ago yesterday i got my very own woma python! he is so tiny and cute and eats very oddly. he does not constrict his food and i dont get it. he just puts it in his mouth and then starts to swallow it. i dont get it. but anyways thanks for your video. it is what showed me what a woma is and made me investigate it more and eventually purchase one.
That is a quite common trait in Womas. This may be linked to their wild ecology. In the wild they eat reptiles such as skinks, small monitors, and snakes (for this reason they can NOT be kept together except during mating season due to canibalism) far more than they eat mammals. Usually they go down their burrow and crush the against a wall rather than constricting them. It may have something to do with this but not 100% certain. Hope this helps.
Most states will require a permit for one. An adult will need roughly a 40-55 gallon depending on how big it gets. Womas top out at anywhere in between 6-9 feet depending on their locale.
now all i gotta do is convince my dad to let me get one... although i would prolly start with a kenyan sand boa first. only problem is my dad doesnt care if i know how to take care of it or if i am responsible enough (he knows i am) he just wont let me get one cuz he dont like them
Little do you know that most of these species, including tigers and Woma Pythons WILL be extinct in the wild one day. Without captive breeding they would become extinct all together.
Now that you have learned something for the day you go bitch on another video you know nothing about.

haha, yeah my moms the same way. i used to keep garter snakes on the deck in aquariums during the summer cause they wernt allowed inside. catch em in the spring, give them the best fed summer of their little life then let em go in the fall. once you move out though, you can go crazy. thats what i did! got a female, three males (ball python breeding project for the fall) and rescued a boa. got big plans for the new apartment, vids to come. snakes are by far the best pets around.
I have a question, since it seems like you know about snakes--my friend and I caught a snake in some bushes today, in Southern California, and I made a little video of her asking what kind she is. I thought she was a blind snake because of the blunted tail, but my subs think she's a rosy boa, would you mind looking and telling me what you think? She's in the video "Mystery Snake" on my channel, just skip to about halfway in. Thanks!
I've been looking into getting one myself. There isn't much out there, as they haven't been in the pet trade for very long. I've been looking at what zoos have said regarding womas. It said they can endure hot and cold, wet and dry climates. -.-; That doesn't help much when you're trying to do cage set up, does it?
I set my Woma up so it's warm end is at about 88 and she is loving it and eating great. I use Sani-Chips and have 2 hides for her as well as a constant water supply. I have her humidity a little higher than my ball python. I used to have her in a 55 gallon, which of course was quite large for her (currently). Now I have her in my snake rack which is a 32 quart sweater box but will get her back in the 55 gallon once she doubles her current size.
You can find them, but they're not the cheapest of snakes. Still, they're affordable, depending on the breeder. I've seen some between 100 and 200 dollars. It depends on if you want a male or female too. female snakes cost more.

i have a choice to get any snake exept venomous , im thnking of getting emrald tree boa , or boa constricor , can anyone else suggest a few cool snakes please
A red tail would be cool. Just do plenty of reading on them first. I was also just going to say that emerald tree boa's are a high maintenance snake which require a very specific humidity and temperature level. Plus they are more prone to having a not so nice temperament. In other words: Not a good snake for a beginner.
Cool. Never know who the beginners are and aren't. Many not experienced with snakes think they all get taken care of the same. You will have fun with your boa. Just make sure to spend plenty of time with it!
Um corn snakes can get to be at least six feet long and they eat pinkie mice a ages0-1 and fuzzies at 1-2 and then after that examen their torso and what ever size their torso is feed them a mosue that size also id recomend if your squemish to feed them prekilled mice but if your not its up to you to decide if itll eat live mice or prekilled mice
Is it just me or dose she have really big eyes? Snakes are great pets, there really calming like owing a cat. I own a golden retriever myself, here in the near future a snake is on my list. What kind would you suggest thats would make a good "lap snake" highly social and dose not mind being held in the hand and petted a lot, plus get along well with other animals?
It's a marking around her eyes which makes her look bigger.
As far as what snake makes a good lap snake, I would suggest a ball python. But I do not suggest letting any snake getting near any other type of animal. It may not only stress out the other animal but can especially stress out the snake.
I feed all of my snakes frozen unless they refuse it for a long period of time. Not as cool to watch I know, but it imposes a lot less risk on the snakes. I have nothing against those who do feed live, but in the end it is the owners decision.
dude Woma Pythons are so fuckin rad. i hecka want to get one too. i just recently added a ball python and a Sinaloan Milk to my collection. i have been meaning to put up videos but never have the time.

wicked, can you tell me how big they get and what they eat? thanx
okevin96 3 years ago
Um corn snakes can get to be at least six feet long and they eat pinkie mice a ages0-1 and fuzzies at 1-2 and then after that examen their torso and what ever size their torso is feed them a mosue that size also id recomend if your squemish to feed them prekilled mice but if your not its up to you to decide if itll eat live mice or prekilled mice

IF you wiggled a finger around it would it bite you?

Is it just me or dose she have really big eyes? Snakes are great pets, there really calming like owing a cat. I own a golden retriever myself, here in the near future a snake is on my list. What kind would you suggest thats would make a good "lap snake" highly social and dose not mind being held in the hand and petted a lot, plus get along well with other animals?
codexbiohazard 3 years ago
It's a marking around her eyes which makes her look bigger.
As far as what snake makes a good lap snake, I would suggest a ball python. But I do not suggest letting any snake getting near any other type of animal. It may not only stress out the other animal but can especially stress out the snake.

FartherAway420 3 years ago
Hope you feed it live.
CUBuff10 3 years ago
I feed all of my snakes frozen unless they refuse it for a long period of time. Not as cool to watch I know, but it imposes a lot less risk on the snakes. I have nothing against those who do feed live, but in the end it is the owners decision.
