Funny how Croce is so well-known for "love-songs". Most of his songs were songs of heartbreak. Songs of heartbreak that help you with your own heartbreak. Help you keep walking, and help you get up in the morning.

@Alexander317yep Here's a thought. Alot of people like to froth about the mouth when it comes to John Denver and his song writng ability, but I can recall several of his songs that were total suckage. I was always a Croce fan and at 50 years old I can never recall a bad song written by him. He was a genius ( my opinion ).
@topherhadley122077 I can relate in a way, The image of her face slowly fading away, the soft tone of her voice fading out. All that is left are broken memories but still there is something left.
A dear friend - my ex-boyfriend decided this life was too hard and left us. Even though I'm happily married with beautiful children, this song will always remind me of him and how he helped mold me into who I am. RIP Dave. I will always love you.
When my wife and I got married in the mid-seventies, we chose "Time In A Bottle" as our song. Everyone else was picking stuff like Chicago's "Color My World" and they were one of my favorite bands, but we wanted something a little less chosen. I have never regretted our decision for one moment. BTW, today is our anniversary.
I cant help but think of my wife who passed last year when I hear this song now. She was an exceptional woman and gave me more than I ever merited. RIP Avis, and RIP Jim Croce.
@hotmn4u Avis, to whom I alluded in my previous comment, was my wife. We separated becuase of a lot of things that were more fault of mine than anyone's, and a year later (29 Mar 2010) she died. She had brittle bones and was likely to die young anyway, but that we couldnt reconcile and I wasnt there when she passed has made the loss even harder to take. She was one in a million.,

The greatest-hits collection mentioned in the description box was originally released on vinyl? I didn't know that, but I do have it on CD. I might add, however, that the pic in the video looks like the cover for a different compilation album/CD. Still, thanks for posting this song.

I just wish there was one musician in my generation with a fraction of the talent he had . . it makes me so sad to see the state of music and know that I'm living in a musical dark age.
@dissentarygary77 Monte Montgomery has a lot of writing similarities. Though Mixes folk with blues he only plays acoustic. I've been a Croce fan my entire life, sadly I was born 3 years after his death.
i'm 14 years old and i truly appreciate music. all of my friends and people in my school listen to all that rap and dubstep shit. They do not know the true meaning of music. Jim Croce was a fantastic artist, his lyrics are so deep and meaningful. I'm so glad that my dad introduced me to him. One of my favorite artists.
@Ethantheonly77 Its great to see a new generation of people that can appreciate this music. He was and is a fantastic singer/songwriter. Keep the faith, and love ALL kinds of music. But this is where the heart is.

there is a time and a place to put the emotions of a song. This song, over 40 years old spans both. Hopes, Dreams, Heart emotions Shattered in just 2 minutes. Truly one of the most Powerful songs, and only 2 minutes long.
i was introduced to this great singer by my college friends in the university way back in mid 80s and since then i was hooked to his songs many of them are classified classics and are still played in the airwaves to this day.
I think of my Oldest Brother Charlie, who has passed, every time I hear a Jim Croce song, He Looked and acted just like Him, and He also was a Man amongst Men, they do not make strong backboned Men like this anymore, how different would the world be today, if all the old schoolers who passed away, were still influencing us?
He suffered doing lousy jobs, Hustlingall his life and just when he made it ... But we sure had a good time when you started way back when...
@CaptainShroomguy Great comment. You hit every chord that so many of us believe. His music transcends and touches the soul no matter what your favorite genre of music. HIs lyrics are beautiful. His songs almost had an eerie foretelling of his future. It's always been bittersweet music.
My mom brought me up listening to Jim Croce, now I still get the record player out to share his beautiful music, the same way I experienced it, with my own children.
Just wish he could be here again with Maury..writing and singing these beautifully written chord progression masterpieces. and telling us more of lifes stories that were so much a part of his music. What people consider talent today..they should sit back listen and consider the works that Jim and Maury did togetther. And even that which Jim did with his wife Ingrid. This is talent at its very, very top! Miss them..words cannot convey how much.
@froff69 The 70s were the golden age of the singer songwriters. We didn't realize at the time that we were witnessing an era that would soon pass much too quickly. Some of the most beautiful contemporary music came out of the 60s and 70s.
i am 18 but i was inspired by my father, beatles, jim croce, dan hills, everly brothers brothers four , andy william ..... when i am sad, once i hear there song , all of my sorrow will ease away :)
I have known the Croce genius since 1972. No other comes near him. Look around at the crap that is heard today its unbelievable what they call talent now days. This guy was real earthy talent. And sadly gone to quickly
I look at old pictures, old friends, girlfriends. where did that time go? seemed like yesterday we were for forever, now nothing but a few pictures, and letters are left. I still feel your words hitting my heart. seems like yesterday, not years ago. Where did the time go?

I have known the Croce genius since 1972. No other comes near him. Look around at the crap that is heard today its unbelievable what they call talent now days. This guy was real earthy talent. And sadly gone to quickly

I weep.
It feels good to hurt that way.

I'm a hardcore metalhead, yet Jim Croce's still one of my favorites. Great man, he was. Truly a fantastic artist.

It's those ABC Dunhill string lines. So reminiscent of the 70s. How I miss those days.....

I look at old pictures, old friends, girlfriends. where did that time go? seemed like yesterday we were for forever, now nothing but a few pictures, and letters are left. I still feel your words hitting my heart. seems like yesterday, not years ago. Where did the time go?
