  • X Opus and 'The Epiphany'...classic shred prog on Magna Carta Records

  • You can hear Rhoads influence on Petrucci in that - it starts out like S.A.T.O.'s solo.

  • shadow gallery? never heard of them before, but it sounds pretty awesome

  • @DiabolusEnGuitar

    are you serious????

Well, i guess you never heard of them because they han't done any live performance (yet) although they are making albums since 1991.

Go check Tyranny, Legacy and Room V.

  • @xTOMMYGRx They're making live performance now. :D Gary Wehrkamp is one bad ass motherfucker man.

  • What no mention of Angra's Kiko Lourey and raphial bittencourt! Pardon my spelling

  • speed is king. but doing it "tastefully" makes Petrucci unique IMO. he's not the only one though.

  • @mdo0bm And how can he be *unique* and at the same time not be the only one?

  • perhaps i meant exceptional. what im saying is that he's fucking rare. there are "shredders" out there that don't have a capacity for melody.

  • the solos are unique, not the person

  • Ah yes, SX and SG.

  • great selection

  • between the buried and me - selkies the endless obssesion

between the buried and me - ants of the sky

fall of troy - semi fiction

you should check those solos out especially between the buried and me's

  • wait, one more,

between the buried and me - mordecai

thats probably my favorite solo by them.

  • I hope you meant for a video. Because BTBAM is definitely not progressive metal, nor The Fall Of Troy lol.

  • umm. they sure are.

  • @CapitalsforLyfe hows btbam not progressive metal u noob

  • Cool video, but symphony and dream has better solos than these :S

  • Would Nevermore fit into this category? there guitar solos are very Classical/Jazz in influenced. Jeff Loomis is a beast ether way!

  • very cool compilation. it was pleasure to listen to

  • symphony x !!!

  • YES!!! The Ministry Of Lost Souls is such an awesome song!!!

  • Yeah truth! Petrucci is a BEAST!

  • I had never really heard many good prog metal bands before. I heard a dream theater song and holy shit. They are fucking insane. Petrucci is definitely a prime example of a great guitarist. He is not the greatest, but he's still one of the best. Much better than the dragonforce shit you hear these days :D

  • Vanden Plas very underrated!

  • Opeth needs to be on here

  • If I didn't see dream theater or symphony x here I was gonna kick someone in the nuts. Thank god you have both. The rest of the bands are amazing too.

  • meshuggah plays 4/4 alot, they just like break it up in a weird way.

  • meshuggah and opeth at technical extreem prog metal, these bands are progressive metal as the title reads. and make no mistake, these are definately prog metal bands, symphony x? dream theater? shadow gallery? how have you never run into these bands before?

  • sorry but....what's the name of the intro song ?? It's so cool *.* !!

  • Threshold - Slipstream

  • Threshold!!

    Amazing

  • very good solos...but what about circus maximus??

  • Romeo is insane

  • I FUCKING LOVE The Ministry Of Lost Souls BY Dream Theater and Set the World on Fire by Symphony X.

  • nice..
