as much as its upsetting to see animals held in captivity, living in such small environments.. id really much rather these animals be in captivity. at least we know they are safe and not getting slaughtered by heartless people :( especially the animals near extinction :( i would personally rather them be in captivity being cared for than out there where anyone can do horrible things to them.. as long as there are some in captivity theyll never completely go extinct.

What is happening in japan is aweful but putting the blame on captive dolphin places is not going to change what has been going on for hundreds of years.

Captive facilities may be making a profit but they are also putting alot of that back into rescue facilities that aid in the animals that are stranded (thanks to humans) which is a lot more then I can say for the people that made the cove. Other then releasing animals that died when was the last time they added in stranded animals.

@mrmrwhatisthetruth - Unfortunately the only way this can stop is to stop these marine parks making money, and they make tons of money. Yes it is very kind of them to help stranded animals. But i am sure there are less stranded animals due to humans, than the hundreds/thousands that are killed for meat that is high in mercury.

Don't be fooled, Marine parks are there for profit, how much of that profit do they give back? If you want to see Dolphins, see them in the wild, not in a tiny tank.

@Neberkenezer I do not deny they make profit, however see them in the wild great idea lets take the billion people that go to these parks and zoos every year and send them to the wild to see the animals. What little of their enviorment that is left would be destroyed and the animals would be in more danger then they are now. Sorry as much as a agree about animals being in the wild I also am smart enough to know that with out parks and zoos we the humans would do more damage to them.

@mrmrwhatisthetruth - You have a good point, and there is probably a compromise somewhere. Maybe if a Zoo is a Zoo and not a roller coaster park tagged onto it, and the Zoo was non profit and all the money would go back into the animals they were protecting. I believe in Zoo's but not when they have animals exploited or even put in danger when captured so some fat cat can have his luxury mansion.

@mrmrwhatisthetruth - What if this was the way humans collect ALL animals for Zoo's.

Round up elephants, Lions, Tigers, Hippo's, crocodiles...... The ones that are not chosen, kill them for meat. Why is it different for Dolphins.

If we accept this mentality, what animal is next?

@mrmrwhatisthetruth I completely agree, ik for a fact that sea world has a rehabilitation facility, and do whatever they can in their power to save animals from cruel death. And the ones in the shows are taken care of remarkably well!! So no offense to Japan, but these problems are on them, not animal captivity!
