Is it just me, or do Guards' drum majors never seem to match the band they are leading. For example, its rare to see a Scots Guards DM leading the band of the Scots Guards, its often one of the other regiments of foot guards. I find it rather strange.
@KnightsbridgeStudios Drum Majors of the Foot Guards are also engaged on operational duties with their regiments so are not always seen on ceremonial parades. They are in charge of the Corps Of Drums of a battalion who can come from a cross section of guardsmen of a battalion company. They have no direct link with the Guards Bands except on ceremonial parades.
Trying to find a recording of Guards band playing Flying Eagle and Ulster Division marches. Can anyone advise me. The tempo of these marches would be perfect for Cobourg's 598 Squadron Air Cadets Annual Review and March Past. No luck finding a CD here in Canada.
@windy344 Hi there. Try bandleaderrecordings in the UK, in particular recordings BB 32 and BNA 5204 which include the two marches you are interested in. Good luck, and I hope these fine tunes enhance your Review and March Past.
Dates to remember for 2011 Saturday 14 June 2011 Queen's Birthday Parade when the Colour of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards will be trooped. Saturday 31st May Major-General's Review. Saturday 7th June Colonel's Review ( HRH The Duke Of Kent). Roll on the summer!
Absolutely Brilliant Footage! Hard to believe that those boys playing the march Ulster Division at the beginning of your footage will be in Afghanistan in November. Rule Britannia! Thank you so much for posting it.
Marches "Ulster Division" Irish Guards Band "Europe United" Welsh Guards Band "Carry On" Coldstream Guards Band "Washington Grays" Scots Guards Band "Galanthia" Corps Of Drums 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards (Larger than normal...Could there be another Corps Of Drums on the parade?)
@tralens In answer to your question, I can see the Corps of Drums of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards with the Corps of Drums of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards. I wonder why they're not with the Welsh Guards Band.
@MSD88 Thanks for that I thought there was another COD playing. The Welsh Guards Band will be with the detachment of streetliners who are positioned from Buckingham Palace to the start of the Mall. These will be from the 1st Battalion Irish Guards. The Drum Major leading them is WO2 Tony Moors Grenadier Guards who is the Senior Drum Major. The Drum Major of the Welsh Guards WO2 Steve O'Brien is seen here leading the Band Of The Coldstream Guards.
I wonder if those American girls at 3.46 posing for the camera in front of all those tall men know if they are on You-Tube

@KnightsbridgeStudios
It's because there are a disproportionate and ever changing number of drum majors.
Last time I checked there were 3 Grenadier, 1 Coldstream, 1 Welsh and 1 Irish Guard drum majors.
