I remember seeing David Joseph on The Tube (a tv programme filmed in my home town of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. This was years after the fabulous Hi Tension sound). David was fantastic - I listened to his track (You can't Hide (your love from me) and went out and bought the 12 inch single the very next day. Fabulous!!!!!

These brothas made me proud to be a young Black Londoner back in the late 70s. Remember them first performing this in late 77 on a one-off BBC2 programme called Black Current that also featured Billy Paul (the headline act). Suffice it to say, Hi Tension just blew the roof & totally 'blessed da funk', London UK style. Props to Hi Tension, Light of the World, Real Thing, and Atmosfear for some classic Brit-funk moments.

For years, I've told people that when I was at school, I remember a programme that was shown on BBC2 called Black Current but no one seemed to remember this and thought I was dreaming or something!!! I definitely remember Billy Paul on it as I think he sung 'Only the Strong Survive' and also I think Kandidate was on. Tried to see if it was logged anywhere on the BBC website, just to prove to the doubters that I didn't make this up but didn't find it! Thanks once again!

Hey,you & me both Patsie!Seem to recollect quite a bit of hullabaloo in the Black music press (Black Echoes) in the lead up to the programme in view of the palpable lack of Black music showcased on tv (the odd token appearance on TOTP was the about most we got back then).Apparently,the Three Degrees were the other sheduled headline act,who after pulling out were (thankfully) replaced by Hi Tension.Guess the rest is history, eh!? Glad to know I wasn't alone that historic evening in 1977.

But definitely remember that it was a great show for that time, especially with the explosion of the British soul groups back then. I'll take a listen again. I did notice that British music in the late 70's did have several popular black bands(Light of the World, Freeze, Hi Tension, etc.) Not so much in the 80's.
