@zudix1...wtf, black disco !!!! white people came up with trhe name DISCO. the music existed before white people go ahold of it and fucked it up!!! music in their skin?!? you have bullshit in tyour mouth !!!! get some knowledge b4 you talk !!!
I remember seeing David Joseph on The Tube (a tv programme filmed in my home town of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. This was years after the fabulous Hi Tension sound). David was fantastic - I listened to his track (You can't Hide (your love from me) and went out and bought the 12 inch single the very next day. Fabulous!!!!!
'Multiplying like ants', sounds very much like racism to me! Well I'm sure the residents of North West London, Black, white & Asian, are more than happy to see the back of your bigoted, redundant punk ass. Best of luck in your lillywhite, binge drinking, fish & chip eating, chav world.
These brothas made me proud to be a young Black Londoner back in the late 70s. Remember them first performing this in late 77 on a one-off BBC2 programme called Black Current that also featured Billy Paul (the headline act). Suffice it to say, Hi Tension just blew the roof & totally 'blessed da funk', London UK style. Props to Hi Tension, Light of the World, Real Thing, and Atmosfear for some classic Brit-funk moments.
Thank you Tchalla77. For years, I've told people that when I was at school, I remember a programme that was shown on BBC2 called Black Current but no one seemed to remember this and thought I was dreaming or something!!! I definitely remember Billy Paul on it as I think he sung 'Only the Strong Survive' and also I think Kandidate was on. Tried to see if it was logged anywhere on the BBC website, just to prove to the doubters that I didn't make this up but didn't find it! Thanks once again!
Hey,you & me both Patsie!Seem to recollect quite a bit of hullabaloo in the Black music press (Black Echoes) in the lead up to the programme in view of the palpable lack of Black music showcased on tv (the odd token appearance on TOTP was the about most we got back then).Apparently, the Three Degrees were the other sheduled headline act,who after pulling out were (thankfully) replaced by Hi Tension.Guess the rest is history, eh!? Glad to know I wasn't alone that historic evening in 1977.
For real! I didn't realise the Three Degrees was meant to have been on Black Current. But definitely remember that it was a great show for that time, especially with the explosion of the British soul groups back then. Can't remember who presented the programme - I mean, it is over 30 years ago, but thanks so much for replying.
The chant is..... "Bless the funk".. and I should know..say no more. I am so glad that it brings back fond memories to so many. It was a great period in british black music history... Hey, joselebeer you're funny.
Yeah I know its Britfunk but listen to the chant when the music stops......... RASTAFUNK RASTAFUNK RASTAFUNK RASTAFUNK RASTAFUNK RASTAFUNK RASTAFUNK RASTAFUNK RASTAFUNK RASTAFUNK. This tune was a comment on the social/ecomonics of post modern britain and the multiculturalism of an all embracing self fullfilling prophacy....
I'll take a listen again. I did notice that British music in the late 70's did have several popular black bands(Light of the World, Freeze, Hi Tension, etc.) Not so much in the 80's.
aah man! this is great! Has anybody got the Top of the Pops appearances of David Joseph singing his biggie, 'You Can't Hind Your Love' from 83? They're so cool.

YESSSS! This band made the best Brit Funk groove of the 70s. I was 16 when this tune was out and when I heard it in the club (Welcome Inn, Eltham) I caught the FUNK virus. Have never got over it.
'Bless the funk'great song from the late 70's but prefered 'British hustle'so everybody come on get em down.Hey Mr Jazzfunkshizzle have you got Mr Joseph performing 'You can't hide your love' cos that was awesome???
WOW!!! Most Americans don't have a CLUE about these guys (Well, except for the New Yorkers). If I hadn't lived overseas for most of my childhood, I wouldn't know either! THIS IS ONE HELL OF A JAM! Blessed with FUNK!
WOW I love the base in this. When I bought this in 78 I played it over and over again with the windows open so that the world could here it. ps...Thanks to Robbie Vincent and the Long hot Soulfull summer, Radio one VHF (77 & 78) he educated me in FUNK music.
