His psychic abilities showed goku telling him that he could be different, that he could be good. I think the only reason why he was bad was because of frieza and his dictatorship. He had good in his heart, and the psychic abilities lead him to realize that.

@MikeDCT Keep in mind that unlike Saiyans like Broly , Vegeta , Nappa , Raditz and Turles , Bardock and his teammates didn`t kill for kicks but rather because it was their job and in self-defense . The only one Bardock took any joy in attacking was Frieza who has killed for kicks and to flaunt his power many times .
