Holy crap this is tough.... I'm 26, about 30 lbs overweight, and haven't worked out since college. I just joined a 28 day weight loss challenge at work and stumbled upon this workout during my Google searching. Today was Day 1 for me, and I had to do a modified version of this workout, but nonetheless it is an intense burn. I did 2 Rounds, and did as many 60-15's as possible, but ended up doing more 45-15's.
Hey Funk, I understand we're to do this workout or the other Sparta workouts three times a week. I did this workout for the first time today and it was tough, especially the alternate sot press'.
1) Is it okay to do more than that -- maybe four times a week?
2) If I'm doing this three times a week, can I lift weights on the off days? Would it be detrimental to my progress?
@LloydChristmas777 Hey Lloyd, I think a 4 day schedule is great M-T-TH-F with Saturday as an Active Rest Day (For Example do something you like or a Spartacus Ab Workout, Sport) - Depending on your goals, I don't think you will need traditional weight training if getting ripped and building lean muscle and strength. Spartacus will get you there (along with Clean Nutrition) - Why did you want to do weights?
@marcroops, I'll try the four day schedule. I want to lift weights because I don't want to lose the gain I've gotten in my dead lifts and squats. Also, it's fun. Don't get me wrong, I much prefer the Spartacus type workouts; they're more intense and challenging physically and cardio-wise.
I feel great after what I did this morning and I can't wait to do it again. I'm so glad to hear you say that I can get ripped with lean muscle and strength by going Spartacus. You're an inspiration.
@silvergun83 Hey Silver, good work, keep plugging away, because the olny way to get through these workouts, is to do these workouts - Funk - Don't forget to head over to the SpartacusWorkoutBlog for more workouts and nutrition info for fat loss
Is there going to be a video 2 for this or is there already one? Thank you for all your videos no one else puts out stuff like yours. Really appreciate it.
@MrRingoac Hey MrRingoac, There are definitely a Part 2 video as well as a 4 week program at the spartacusworkout website and also over 50 Spartacus workouts at the spartacusworkoutblog website. - Funk
Can anyone help, Im ashamed to admit that I tried this workout for the 1st time yesterday after not doing any kind of fitness for a very long time. I made it through 1 set, and I was floored. Im aching like hell today, which I expected, but I want to be able to do more than set, so should I lower the workout time? Or increase the rest time? Or both? Great workout by the way.
@motley0crue12 Hey Montley, It's Funk Roberts....first off congrats on making it through the workout. If this is your first time in a while, then you are going to want to scale back on the interval time. (BTW- the onoly way to get better at the exercises and workouts, is to continue to do them. Your body, muscles, cardio, strength will get better, but these will be the rough times.
Here is how I propose you break this up over the next 4 Weeks - see next comment
@marcroops Before and After each workout you MUST warm up and STRETCH, STRETCH, STRETCH Week 1 - 30 - 15 Intervals 2-3 rounds Week 2 - 30-15 intervals 3 rounds Week 3 - 45-15 intervals 2-3 rounds Week 4 - 45-15 intervals 3 rounds After you have completed the 4 weeks, then hit the SpartacusWorkoutBlog and grab a couple of Spartacus workouts from the 30 plus and plus them into Week 5 - 60-15 2 rounds Week 6 - 60-15 3 rounds etc - I hope that hepls. you can plugin any Spartacis Workout
@djnv11 Yeah its 65 I would think, thats what Im using. And you should use 20-30lb weights. 30 is hard if you're not advanced - especially on the alternate sots press.
Mr. Roberts, Thanks for the awesome workouts. We have a group of firefighters that have taken on the challenge. One quick question. Is the audio that you are using for the intervals available? I've just purchased the gymboss, but like the audio on this video. Thanks
im addicted to these spartacus workouts. great test of endurance and every week i see myself getting more toned up. i also had a question. i tried the funk 50 after the spartacus workout and it was grueling. i finished but it was tough towards the end. is it bad to do one after the other? i rested for 3 minutes before starting the funk 50. Thanks funk your the man

@cquinapa Thanks CQ, I am so glad you love the Spartacus Workouts and make sure you go to the blog for more workouts spartacusworkoutblog - It is NOT bad to double up on the Funk 50 and Spartacus Workout. You may want to try the Spartacus Abs and Core workouts too...AWESOME!!!! - Keep working hard
Man oh man. Got my gym boss timer in the mail yesterday. First off what a solid little product, thanks for promoting a quality/inexpensive piece of fitness equipment!! Second of all I did my first Spartacus workout about an hour ago... intense. You forgot to mention one thing, be prepared to mop up the sweat!! I have never sweat like that outside of the Muay Thai gym, having that timer there, knowing your not done yet is key for home workouts.
Thank you Funk, you are the man, keep it up bro!!!!!
Hey i just wanted to ask you , as i am 16,5 years old , if i could start the spartacus workout or isn't it good for my growth or is it to harsh for my body . If i can start this programm what weight should i go with ? ( 10 kgs and 5 kgs for T-pushups ?).And about the supplements should i take whey protein and 3omega acids or is it bad at this age? Are there any unwanted sideffects?
@Manggg16 The Spartacus workouts and programs will definitely help to burn fat - especially 24-36 hours after your done due to EPOC (Excess Post Workout Oxygen Consumption) but your Nutrition is gonna be the key to ensure you get rid off the belly fat and love handles - check out my channel for nutrition tips and subscribe so you can get my 6 part nutrition video special coming over the next couple of weeks
Where would I find one of the interval timers like the one that can be heard in the background that tells you when to start and how much longer you have to go? I would appreciate any help you could provide.
work out muse is who made the soundtrack and you can DL from them for free. Its super handy and helps. I dont remember the website but look up Workout Muse they will have it. Its also a cool website.
