Many species have evolved quickly enough to notice extreme evolutionary changes. Lizards have been placed in new habitats and they evolve, ie. heads grow large, bite strength increases and digestive system changes. Some have evolved so much, they can no longer reproduce with the Lizards in the old habitat making a new species.The evidence is as overwhelming as the creationists' ignorance.It won't be long before the creationists can no longer procreate with atheists giving rise to a new species.

I'm an atheist who doesn't "yet" believe in macroevolution. Biologists still don't have an explanation of how this works. As soon as they get it, I'll believe in it. Even more disturbing is the origin of life -- how do we go from inorganic matter to organic matter? No understanding at all about this. I guess this would be one of the greatest jumps in our biological understanding. I hope to see this in my lifetime, but I'm dubious.

The generation at the beginning of the 20th century could see in their own lifetimes lifespans increase, previous death sentences be destroyed by new medicine, new electronics bringing news infinitely faster into their homes, horses replaced by cars, people flying for the first time. People today are spoiled. The difference is that our videogames are better, phones smaller, and lifespans marginally increased. They forget without inspiriation.

Many species have evolved quickly enough to notice extreme evolutionary changes. Lizards have been placed in new habitats and they evolve, ie. heads grow large, bite strength increases and digestive system changes. I'm an atheist who doesn't "yet" believe in macroevolution. Biologists still don't have an explanation of how this works. As soon as they get it, I'll believe in it. Even more disturbing is the origin of life -- how do we go from inorganic matter to organic matter? No understanding at all about this. I guess this would be one of the greatest jumps in our biological understanding. I hope to see this in my lifetime, but I'm dubious.

It does not mean a guess, or even one possibility out of many, it refers to a scientific model based on solid evidence. Faith is belief with out evidence and therefore has nothing to do with scientific theory. Simply saying a theory is a religion is like saying an apple is a bike, you need evidence and unlike evolution you don't have any.

@ButcherWing You clearly don't understand what science is (or really religion for that matter) it's system that is self correcting, it's not like the changes have been major jumps across the board, it's been fine tuned as new information has been found. every correction making it more accurate, and gives us even more info, but the basic framework has stayed the same. Between the fossils and DNA evidence there is no intelligent rational reason to deny evolution.

Heppines is in the truth, becouse truth liberate people. I wish there is a god...I mean... most of people are unhappy...and it would be beautiful to have beter life in heaven and everything... but Im not so sure about that.

@Americanjazzlady The myth that Darwin had a death-bed conversion is based on ONE old story, and has been universally discredited, including by Darwin's children. He was an atheist till the end, and never retracted the theory of evolution. The deathbed conversion myth is mostly only spread among Christians who like to feel like they won in the end.

As an American, I am embarrassed and saddened by the state of many people in my country. We are a nation founded on principles like individuality, freethought, secularism, art and science, and yet so many of us willfully and proudly reject reason and progress in favor of Bronze Age myth, dressed in the clothing of the crassness and vulgarity of the huckster. How did we get here? And how can we convince our nation to retrace its steps and get back on track?

@Ashiman12 I think it's a matter of valuing science. The generation at the beginning of the 20th century could see in their own lifetimes lifespans increase, previous death sentences be destroyed by new medicine, new electronics bringing news infinitely faster into their homes, horses replaced by cars, people flying for the first time. People today are spoiled. The difference is that our videogames are better, phones smaller, and lifespans marginally increased. They forget without inspiriation.

@Ashiman12 But then again, there are nations today that embrace science. Japan, China, much of Europe, they're doing something right. India's moving to the right direction, though they still have a lot of woomeisters like Deepak. It certainly warrants a good look to see what they're doing. Funding for science education needs to increase. But our political system has players that have a vested interest in quashing scientific education. They're the largest hurdle.

Brilliant! I haven't seen this one yet! I'm a huge fan of Dawkins, but I wonder why he doesn't understand why people cling to religion. 7:04 I'm learning about evolution every day the same way I'm learning about religion in college, and both fail to make sense at time. I'm a Christian, but I think it's stupid to fight science. Both science, and religion should be experienced. Otherwise you end up believing anything.

How could some of the scientists permit themselves to make a claim that would necessitate knowledge as extensive as the scheme of the universe, when their knowledge of the total scheme of being is *close* to zero, when confronted with a whole mass of unknowns concerning this very earth and tangible, lifeless matter, let alone the whole universe?
