  • Is there any real decent Games/software for the Caanoo Out at the moment?

  • The Caanoo stick has ultimately been a disappointment to me. The lack of deadzones on some of the emulators causes the controls to veer off quite a bit. Most of the games you can play on the Caanoo were originally designed with a D-pad in mind. Makes no real sense really.

  • wow all those handhelds 0_0

  • what is better the dingoo or gp2x wiz or caanoo

  • @vrncaface between wiz and caano it's your choice i personally go for the caanoo now that is being developed but the wiz for its prize is the best now (i just have a wiz)

  • i think the 3ds has the best controller if you agree, like

  • Your daughter is adorable.

  • Hope the successor of Caanoo will have enough buttons and powerful enough hardware to emulate PSX (and, why not, N64). Plus, there's been a lot of improvement on handheld linux lately (Android, Maemo/Meego) so there could as well be used an already existing base for apps/games besides the emulators, haven't used GP32/GP2X but the OS seems a little outdated.

  • neo geo pocket analog is the best

  • @cfc2ngpc

I honestly cannot decide whether to make a purchase on the WiZ or the Caanoo. On the one hand, the WiZ already has optimized emulators, a wide selection of homebrew apps/games, and its interface/design is very unique. The only problem I have with the WiZ is that it will most likely be hard to find a spare battery or charging cable for it now that the Caanoo is out. Any suggestions? :-D

  • @crazyfooInc It's really a tough call. On one hand, I'm not sure the battery is a huge issue. It seems like a problem, but maybe you'll never care. The Caanoo has nicer controls, but you're right about the programs being more mature on the Wiz. If it were me, I would probably go Caanoo, but it really is a personal choice. I own both, and I think Caanoo is an upgrade. I can, however, see how some would argue otherwise.

  • @cfc2ngpc

Thanks for the quick reply :-D. You do have a valid point on the battery, and I know that other parts aren't too hard to get a hold of for either handheld. I'll probably end up choosing the WiZ, only because I enjoy its aesthetics and overall interface more than the Caanoo's. Thanks again! ^_^

  • @cfc2ngpc I would go for the wiz simply because I don't think the Caanoo is going to get the attention the Wiz got because of severe competition from the Pandora and the dingoo a320. I don't think the library will be as big for the Caanoo as it was for the wiz, just like the wiz's isn't as big as the gp2x. There are only so many people willing to write and port free software to a very limited user base. The Wiz has a better screen and a better controller. I would go for the wiz.

  • @cfc2ngpc Very cute daughter

  • Nice display of all the great handhelds! Your girl's lucky to experience all of that awesomeness!! I've yet to get a NGP! Heard alot of good things abt it..

  • The girls is criminal, she play illegal romgames she sould get in jail for that.

  • @MrTaunus007 LOL! Call the police!!!!

  • This company kind of seems determined to make something suck about each console. The Caanoo has this goofy analogue stick with no d-pad, and the Wiz had those ridiculous buttons.

Still, would you say there's anything this does that a CFW PSP doesn't?

  • I'm going to be getting one of these soon, (within a few months), but I'm gonna need a case for it. Does the Caanoo look like it would fit in a DS Lite case or a PSP case?

  • @retronuggetdev PSP Phat for sure. I think it would also fit in a DSLite or PSP Slim case, but I don't have either nearby to test.

  • I am really considering getting one of these. Is it worth it? I did have a PSP but it went missing. How would you compare the two.

  • @jlenoconel The PSP is a great system. It's not real "open" though. When you hack it to play other stuff, you feel like you're doing some illegal act (even though it's your own property). The Caanoo is made to screw around with. That's kinda the point of it. Of course, you can buy official games/apps for it, but you can also make your own.

That's the main difference to me. Caanoo is cool, different, open, Korean, etc. PSP is mainstream, very commercial, and made by a huge company.

  • @cfc2ngpc Thanks for th reply man. Is the Cannoo more "powerful" than the PSP?

  • @cfc2ngpc You only by a PSP not the intellectual rights and you agree upon purchase at least when you buy one new to use it as it was designed. To really in my mind own such a device you have to steal it.

  • psp owns them all bitches

  • lucky girl

  • The Gp32x stick also had problem getting a certain diagonal direction, don´t remember which one it was...

  • How does the Caanoo analog stick work for older console games, like Sonic and the original Super Mario Bros and is it compatible with older Wiz programs? I'm looking for a suitable replacement for my Dingoo but I really only use it to play older NES, Genesis, and Game Boy games.

  • @retronuggetdev Right now, I only have MAME working on it. There is a couple SMBs on the arcade. There was a VS System one, and a PlayChoice one. Maybe I can try those. I don't recall a good Sonic, thugh. It's not binary compatible with Wiz. It uses a different format that should require a simple recompile. I'm trying to figure that part out, myself. I'm sure we'll hear more about that in the near future.

  • @cfc2ngpc Oh, forget what I said about SMB. I guess PlayChoice and VS System are not supported in MAME4All. I'll have to come up with something else.

  • Thats quite an impressive array of handheld systems. Was one of those a portable genesis? I'm not sure if I like the look of the caannoo over the wiz. wiz had the oled screen and was smaller. Cannoo has bigger screen and more normal buttons over the wiz.. But the oled screen had problems on wiz. I'd like to see the caannoo be a smaller system like wiz but still have everything else caannoo would have

  • @jbrodack Yeah, the "portable" Genesis is called a Sega Nomad (in case you were wondering). I agree with some of what you're saying about the Wiz Vs. Caanoo. The Wiz was just so slick looking. It's a shame that it had those screen tearing issues. The Caanoo seems like more of a real-deal gaming system, but it's not so small/cute as the Wiz. I'm not sure why they made such a stylistic change, but it definitely differentiates them.

  • @cfc2ngpc I think the joystick on the Caanoo looks better than the dpad on the Wiz. That being said, I preferred the size of the Wiz just because its so damn portable. Not, that the Caanoo isn't, its just thats its slightly bigger.

  • Have you tried playing GP2X WIZ SD Card games(Redemption Lair+5 Memorial Games,Propris+Deicide 3) on the Caanoo? I want to know if its 100% backword compatible as I am deciding whether to buy a WIZ or Caanoo.
