ya... intro starts and goes on and off as scary and dark but gets more and more cheery when it encourages rick to go back to the house and put on the mask... it sends tingles down spine out of excitement b/c this game allows u to redeem the dark and horrible ending from the first game and revive jennifer

It's just that remakes of old games are kind of popular these days ... another thing I never understood was why they made a 3D version of Sonic the hedgehogg , honestly ... it frustrates me that they rape those kind of games this way ...

@angerfist444 Actually...the new splatter house game is a remake...or at least a retelling of the first game as Rick and Jennifer are in college, and it takes place in the west mansion. The ending of the third game kinda made it impossible for a sequel to be made.

Nothing in the Famicom game jives with the rest of the series, since it has Rick dead at the beginning of that , but he DIES after entering the mansion so that contradicts the first game right there.

IF a new game will be made from this series , it will be a modern looking 3D version that kills the nostalgic gameplay of the genesis versions ... some ppl will declare me nuts , but I sometimes had more fun with those simple 2D games from back in those days than the games that look realistic and are in 3D right now !

Well, you´re not alone. In example, I like to play Batman: Arkham Asylum sometimes, but most of my time I play good old 2D games or watch videos about them :) Splatterhouse series is one of those things I play/watch :)

It's so realistic that it's sick and frightening that games like that are for sale already ... @angerfist444 You seem to have been proven right, more or less. Whether or not the nostalgia is killed remains to be seen. At the same time, look at the overall concept of the series! How do you NOT do a 3D version?? I mean, it makes sense for Mega Man to be done in old school style, but that's a basic platformer with a generic cartoon sci-fi anime theme. This series pays homage to slasher horror film. It HAS to be done in 3D!

Blood is more realistic and enemies will be more detailed , but still ... it's hard to explain but I still prefer the old 2D games over the newer version ... At least for the splatterhouse series ...

@angerfist444 I think it probably will be different but who knows? It just may do the semi-impossible and capture SOME of the glory of the old games. Though I agree that nothing beats the originals, I reserve my judgement on the new game until I play it. The only thing that really bothers me is that they went with a heavy metal soundtrack instead of ambient music. The Splatterhouse series had some of the most eerie yet atmospheric music a game has ever had.

@angerfist444 Well, it's a 3D version, but I'd say it turned out alright. They included several sidescrolling segments built just like the Genesis and Arcade versions, including weapons, and the Mask makes some very fun quips and it's voice actor is quite good. Plus it has the original uncensored arcade Splatterhouse and 2 and 3 as unlockables.

Point is that when I posted that comment , I was unaware of the fact that a new game of splatterhouse would be released in the future. I knew they were going to try and milk it out by making a 3D version of the game . I speak only for myself if I say that I prefer the good old 2D games over the new one ;)... I must say that the unlockables are indeed a positive extra for the game .

Actually I misread the news story. Namco actually took the developer that was working on it off the project due to not reaching certain benchmarks, or at least that is their story.

The former developer (sorry but the name escapes me for the moment) said that is false and Namco was just being too harsh.

Whatever the case may be, we won't hear much about it until Namco says who is the new developer, if they even continue with the project.

Ahh, you'll have that sometimes. Welp, as a huge fan of the genesis game when I was like... 6-9 years old (honestly can't remember), I was not too happy with the way Rick looked. He looks like fuckin' incredible hulk. I hope they continue it, but get a developer that still follows the traditional path of the which the game was built on (mainly pertaining to Rick's look).

No problem, actually here is some more info I just learned. The new Splatterhoue game is going to be a re-imagining of the first one. The former developer was a company called Bottlerocket games. Their only claim to fame gaming wise was they were the makers of the Rise of Kasi games. Games that was somewhat decent at best.

Namco/Bandi themselves are taking over the remainder of the development and its release date is planned either August or September.
