There are a lot of bad things about this image I could forgive, but the frame rate on this and all other N900 samples I've seen is extremely jerky. 24 fps does NOT have to look this jerky. There is something fundamentally wrong with this camera's video. The iPhone and Droid and Nexus One do not have this problem at all.
Thefre's so much misinformation about the framerate of N900's video recording. It is officially 24 FPS in UK advertising, yet all pre-production and production N900s actually produce video with just 20.1 to 21.5 FPS. That's the reason the videos appear slightly jerky. I have checked many original MP4 samples. Just check them youself, eg using QuickTime's Show Movie Inspector.
Different programs (QT Inspector, RAD Video Tools, Windows Media Player, WM Player Classic, Virtual Dub, etc.) show different frame rates, so I really don't know which of them should be trusted. But ALL of them, for all videos recorded with final N900, show frame rates between 23,25 and 23,97. So it definitely isn't 20-21 fps. If it's 23.97 fps as Windows Media Player Classic and RAD Video Tools report then it's quite a standard and popular frame rate and not something to complain about...
I have yet to find one MP4 from a N900 with over 22 FPS; all have been under 22 FPS. So, could you point me to one online example of over 22 FPS to download? Thanks.
As I wrote, all videos I recorded with my N900 are 23.25-23.97 fps (depending on program used to check the properties). QuickTime Movie Inspector you mentioned ALWAYS shows 23.30 fps. I really don't have any reasons to lie about this... I'm currently working on the review of the N900 and it'll contain some original unmodified samples. I'll publish it in a week or so.
Please, take into consideration that it was a very old prototype. Now that the N900 started shipping, you'll soon be able to see samples of much better quality recorded using final, commerical units.
you wont get the phone because the video quality is awful?Maybe its just me but I like the video quality and the n900 have to be the best phone ever made right now.
Yes, its still awful. And N900 isnt the best. Am happy about Nokia delays this device, because it is not a big bumm and wont be. as they planned. Maybe the next maemo device will be the one, but not this.
hello I'm going to buy this phone when it goes on sale but tell me this phone is heavy because now I have the nokia n97 and I want to change it but tell me this is heavy
It's actually not memory (as N900 has plenty of it) but probably other disk activity in the background. This video was shot right after a previous one and the device might have been still saving it while recording new one. It's the only video (out of 20 or so) where dropped frames are noticeable. But I wanted to show it because of quite difficult lighting conditions, yet the picture being clear, sharp and noiseless. I'll post one more clip later today to show that usually there's no frame drop.
wow, as soon as I get paid on Friday morning I'm pre ordering one! Even before I saw the video quality I was impressed, but now I'm just floored. Awesome video by the way, thanks for posting.
As I wrote, it was an early proto unit, pretty unoptimized when it comes to performance. And if you check the other sample I posted, there's much less (if any) of dropped frames. Performance of retail units will surely be much better. My intention for now was to show the resolution and detailness, which IMHO is really good. Also, the clip taken in dim light is relatively noise free, which is also a good thing.
How come its video quality and speed are awful? Are you haters all blind? It's very smooth to me.

Its heavier than the n97. Bigger too. I suggest you weigh it out at the store before buying.

At 181 grams, yes. It's heavy.

No, frame rate of this phone is good. IT's just youtube, they downgrade many videos...

What is the resolution I guess its(800x480)
JuveTube777 2 years ago
I hope the framerate in the final version will be higher, so there is to speak of a smooth image.
If so i already see myself camming alot more.
I like the resolution though.

P.S. Regarding the original frame rate, it's 25 frames per second.

Seems to be dropping frames. What was the pre-upload frame rate?
