This is a music from Britany (in Western France). Bretons invaded Great Britain in the 3rd century before JC but were driven out by the Angles and Saxons in the late 3rd century after JC. They took refuge in Britany (France), in Cornwall and Wales (UK). Nowadays, Bretons preserve their original celtic dialect (see Trimartolod). The traditional Breton musical instrument is called Biniou, a kind of Bagpipe. Every year Lorient city (Britany) organises the international meeting of celtic bagpipes..
@Geroskop When did I say Celts were the true natives of british islands ? As you know Western Europe is the blind alley of all the Euroasian barbaric invasions during the high antiquity. and Great Britain was the last step of these invasions. We know precisely who were the Great Britain inhabitant tribes only from the historical times of the Roman conquest. At this period Scots and Pictons lived in the northern part of Great Britain (Hadrian's wall,...) and Brittons lived in the South West ....
@frenchiecocorico1 you didnt say that, I did)))))) you said that celts are ivaders and since you seem to know more about GB history i just asked you who were the natives of GB coz the history ive been learning every one was telling its celts)))
@Geroskop No,it's impossible the Celts weren't GB natives cause they belonged to the Halstadt civilization of the first iron age (Switzerland). For more the word "Celt" ethymology in Celtic dialect meant "colonizer". However, no one knows exactly who were the real natives of British islands previous to the Celt but some monuments as Dolmen and Menhirs (i.e Stonehenge) haven't been erected by the Celt but long before, proving then Celts weren't the first inhabitants of the british islands
@frenchiecocorico1 Sorry, but the Gaels, the Scots, et al didn't arrive in Scotland until about 450 A.D. It was Brithonic before that...who today we call the Welsh. The Romans were long gone by the time the Scots arrived.
@lauwai4life Gaels, Scots, Picts or Brittons (Wales + Cornwall) belonged to the Celts tribes civilization In exemple, France was occupied too by many different Celt tribes (Rèmes,Eduens, Séquanes, ...) living in a part of the conquered territory, Romans called Gaul but it's impossible to establish how was the Celt conquest chronology Then, according to the prehistorical expert it is only possible to draw up the british islands occupation map in the historical times of the Roman conquest.
@lauwai4life But after a checking of the current knowledge about this period it seems effectively Scotland, Northumbria and Caledony were occupied by Picts in the prehistorical times. However they belonged to the Brittons tribes and their language too At the opposite Scots were Germans who arrived in the British islands during the Danish invasions (5th c after JC). Scot language was a german dialect close to old danish but it remains a gaelic dialect spoken in a Scottish region today;
@fidanxx : the name may be german but its a Breton March (Breton is an old Celtic Language like Walise) and in the beginning he says "a dance of farewell from brittany"
@fidanxx Not sure if they are using Scottish pipes. You may find some interest in researching the history of the bag pipe. I know alot of cultures/countries have had their own version of this type of instrument. Some being the predessessor to the scots pipes and even our own accordians.
This is an 'An Dro' from the Breton culture. It's a dance-rhythm, in which a long line of people link hands and dance in a serpentine form amongst themselves. Trance-like to watch and do, because it can just go on and on...
the music survives the centuries of turmoil, now all Europe needs is its own version of John Trudell, then European poor mans voice will be heard loud and clear!
@bullyboy1863 Wake up, this is not German music, this is Breton Celtic music, music of "THE CELTS", 2,000 YEARS AGO SOUTHERN GERMANY WAS CELTIC, NOT GERMANIC.!
@mjconnollyIII Not really... mostly only small parts of Eastern Germany were Celtic (splinters of the Noric culture) and all of Germany to the West of the Rhine was populated by the Belgica mixed culture of Celtic and Germanic origin, the influence of the one or the other depending on the region around the time of the Varus battle. The further you go back in history, the further Germanic influence in Germany in total is pushed back to Denmark, Schleswig and Holstein. ;)
@mjconnollyIII Also, seeing as we're talking about medieval music and the bagpipe was spread over basically all of Europe at the time, I see no connection WHATSOEVER between your post and his... Or do you want me to yell at you because your country used to house people that were, although neolithic, well on their way to a metropolis culture and you therefore should tear down all houses and start building earth and grass pyramids again. Why? WHO CARES?
Makes me think of Count Roland, foremost of the Paladins of Charlemagne, Lord of the Breton Marches (which is the title of this piece) A tribute to brave, worthy Roland? Or Hroudeland as he would have been known to the germanic peoples.
@thomasparg They got only one CD, you can get it from their website and the movie 'The Clan' is also available only over the net (Clanadonia is only once in the movie, but it is still great.)

@BMKPoole If you like medieval rock have a look here on YouTube for 'Corvinia - medieval rock band from Romania part 1' you may be surprised. Its a bit more modern but still very good.
This really does bring the imagery of regiments under banners and flags marching into battle, armour rattling, men of all classes and ranks going to die together yet still marching on to the sound of drums and pipes. Thanks for uploading this!
