  • Micro$oft have paid hundreds to assholes to rubbish Linux on YT, but truth always outs in the end, and in the end LinuX RoX

  • I've got a much easier way to run office....RUN BROKEN ASS PIECE OF SHIT WINDOWS!!!!! WTF would yo run linux for just to do that??????

  • I'm on a Mac and I have Microsoft Office 2007 for Windows... I have a PC that also runs it but it crashes a lot... so I used the trial of CrossOver Mac (I don't have a credit card or any other way to buy it) to run it...

Is there any way I can run Microsoft Office under Wine? I have Wine and WineBottler.

  • Why would anyone want to run Office on linux? Openoffice is so much better...

  • Linux is soooo sooooooOO gay o.o

  • @iron888888 Everybody else thinks you are gay :D You dont even know how Linux was made; you just judge it by its look. How absurd!

  • well if you're on linux just use open office :D

  • I use OpenOffice in Ubuntu. If, however, someone has paid a lot of money for any version of Microsoft Office, they should rightly be able to use it in Linux, instead of having to boot Windows just to run Microsoft Office.

  • OO is not good enough. I always miss Word 2003 when on linux. If microsoft is not stupid anymore and port word into linux version, surely i will buy one

  • @murderslastcrow But you need updates on Ubuntu in order to install more programs on Ubuntu.

Yes that is why I like windows 7 . Everything is installed for you . On Ubuntu I have to install codecs and eveything for me. And my internet isn't that fast. And it'll take hell of a while.

    3. Windows 7 installs in 30 minutes. It's faster than the previous installations of Windows . Ubuntu doesn't have much compatability though than Windows. I can't use my printer and my webcam.

  • @MicroHelper

u r an exception to have that many problems. with a little work u can solve all those issues.

however, all newer versions are VERY user friendly and compatible with many day-to-day devices.

a little hickup here and there is what u pay for having everything for free, not having to pay hundred of dollars for ur software!

  • Hello, how did you that? I'm just trying install on wine, but I can't..... How did you?

  • well the standard are that people put dicks in there mouths since females and gays make up more of the population than heterosexual males so is that why I can't here a word your saying? Is it because you have a dick in your mouth

  • hummm ie is not standard anymore, firefox already won the standard fight and is only a matter of time until linux wins the OS fight once ppl start realizing that windows 7 sucks (i tested..same shit as vista so far..nothing great and many things still not compatible...yeah yeah i know is beta .but trust me..even the release next year will be the same) and that linux is now more friendly user as ever...

To all windows users out there heres a mssg: DONT FEAR THE PENGUIN! =]

  • I'm OK with those arguments, but it's not all about Linux, it's the UNIX kernel, it's way more secure and faster and that's what makes it good.

  • The thing is Windows OSs will most likely ALWAYS be the best known and used OS, simply because most of the computers on the market have it. It's simple, and all the old people and young kids will use it. Linux as i am just finding out is a complete and utter bitch to use - its not a simple case of installing a program and it just seems so much more complicated. However its free. And i find loads quite a lot faster than windows. Until Linux evolves to a piss-easy state windows will be the best.

  • I would have to say the problem with easy of use, is nothing todo with standards. The problem is that people have learned and have gotten familiar with office 2003 and the photoshop. There open source rivals are just as easy to use, they are just set out differently and are menued differently. The reason this is problem is not that they are hard to use its just its something different to what you have always used. Dont get me wrong Openofice can be a pain sometimes but its getting there.

  • Uhh standards compliant I hope you're kidding rofl.

You do realize OpenGL was a standard before they had to give up shoddy DirectX?

You do realize that *nix was a standard before they gave us their kernel right?

You do realize that IE7 follows absolutely no standards (IE8 does finally).

You do realize that Google is the standard search engine but yet they have Live search.

You do realize that XP is the standard desktop OS but yet they gave us Vista.

  • You said most things right. Except XP .

Super slow on low end hardware. Takes like 3 minutes to load up . And you have to wait friggin 10 minutes before you could even start a program dude.

I had XP And it was slow... No great features and it didn't work well on low end hardware. My relatives had 485 MB's of RAM and if they open up a web browser on XP. Super slow. I install Windows 7 on their computer and realized it could handle it and they loved it. XP's old get updated.

  • Windows 7 is junk.

  • You haven't tried it my nitwitted un-user of Windows. you linux users just want everything in life for FREE . If Windows was free and MAC. Our Economy will be in debt. Sure it's great Linux is free. But that's just the great part. Hardly compatability. It was a pain to install one friggin driver for my Printer. I have a CD Mean't for Windows and it was easy as step 1,2,3. Linux... I had to use Wine and download so many files just to have compatibility with my printer... now it won't work.

  • Try not to spew so much ignorance. It's idiots like you that give linux a bad name.

Also our economy is already in debt child.

  • ur economy IS in debt.....and I hardly doubt a Free software market would contribute to the debt making......it would actually encourage revenues by ads....debts are made from improper gov spending

  • You stupid.

  • Well Windows just BSoD'd me and if use Linux normally you'll be proficient as you're with Windows. And I have no problems with GIMP it hasn't been able to do anything that potatoshop hasn't been able to (for me anyways).

  • Yeaaa umm no windows is not easier. Maybe if you're inexperienced w/ *nix. In *nix everything is easier to setup and it's more stable, and about being able to install/maintain Windoze is not so great of a feat tbh lol. RPM/APT are do not get clogged like win registry, you need a new prog to take care of that. The defragger in Win sucks, *nix does not need one. There is no clogged bloat s/w in linux like IE for example or Photoshop another example... *nix is more efficient.

  • When you first get Windows. Everything is setted up ! . No need to customize is it's already setted up for you than Linux. Always have to make it your way. And one of the UPDATES on linux made my screen black and it was frigging slow!!! . I always had to uninstall it and install it all the time. Some stable frikkin OS. Windows is already setted up for you for Microsoft Office 2007 and more userfriendly than Linux .

Download, download, download all the time if you want compatibility on linux!.

  • You most likely installed an advanced Linux distro. Install something such as Ubuntu and if you have any problems I'll be surprised. And Windows being more stable? Yea right... The only time updates in linux can have that affect is if you're using ALPHA or BETA distros. Slow my ass. Hell as a matter of fact I'm posting this comment back to you via Linux. Office 2007 is good but not worth the $500+ use OO.o

  • Really I had no clue. What is AV s/w? You do realize I'm a security admin at my job? Windoze AV costs us thousands of dollars a year. That is why I was looking here to see if wine supports Office 2007 yet :D

  • That consumes unreasonable amounts of RAM and acts like a virus itself.

  • That's why install more RAM Stupid.

  • You can get spyware in Windows, you can get viruses in windows and guess what all you need to do is touch your email.

  • "all you need to do is touch your email"

And you call yourself professional security expert...sigh

    You just lost your "job".

  • Where did I say that? Besides it depends on the email.

  • "Where did I say that? "

Listen,do you really think I'm going to act like your personal slave, when you are to lazy to check out such a small number of 50 comments, especially knowing how easy it is to use your OS or browser to find what you want? And you call yourself an admin? lol Let me guess, you have an admin account on the computer of the local bingo club, right, and now you're suddenly a profesional network administrator? ...noobs...give me my shotgun hon...lol

  • and you can use microsoft games in ubuntu?

  • yeah, i know someone who played tf2 on it :P

  • Can you send me a message with full instructions on how you did this? for linux

  • lol this video kind of made me horny R

  • now try using equation editor....

  • i use ubuntu thx

  • thx dude.

  • the instructions are on my blog at : wine-review(dot)blogspot(dot)com

  • Can you send me a message with full instructions on how you did this?

  • if you use ubuntu (a linux distro) all you have to do is to type wine in the packetmanager and it does all the work for you. I grabs the program from internet and install it... After all you have to do to lunch office is to right click and select "run with wine..."

you can also install office the same way. So you'll have a shortcut and the program in the menu ;)

  • Can you send me a message with full instructions on how you did this?

  • lol @ irony in vid

  • I posted a install guide on my blog on 03/27/08

    -Tom

  • If this is true, then it is really great. Please give back to the community and post instructions. Thanks!

  • I don't believe it.

Since Mr. twickline does not want to publish how he made it, one should me very skeptical.

I am convinced that this movie is a fake, I think he is using Qemu or VirtualBox and not wine.

  • You are a retard.. You can see in the movie its Wine you FOOL!

  • Then prove it! As long as nobody can reproduce what you did I don't believe it.

BTW, don't need to get rude boy!

  • I have nothing to prove to you boy!

  • No but really man, I pretty sure it's in wine, cause you can clearly see the obvious linux window that holds all wine apps, and the office 2007 apps are all fullscreen inside that wine window... anyway i'm probably gonna try this really soon, as i have all the required stuff. maybe next week or something... i'll post back! until then behave man! :p peace

  • There is a howto on the blog :D

  • Great work man! Thanx! :)

  • What blog? i need install Office 2007 in my ubuntu 7.10, plis need your help mail: ktulu315 in gmail.

  • Holy crap that loads fast. What are your specs?

  • system specs:

    ASUS P5N-E SLI Motherboard

    Intel 4-core CPU @ 2.4Ghz

    8GB Dual-channel DDR2 800Mhz Memory

Black Steel Modular case w/extra fans 450w PSU

PCIe x4 hardware raid SATA II (4) 320GB SATA 3.0G drives (PRT)

    Nvidia 8800GTS-640MB PCIe x16 video

    22" high-speed widescreen LCD

    Plextor DVD+-RW/CDRW

  • That's about what I figured. Nice specs, by the way.

  • its linux, thats why.

  • Beeng linux helps, but Linux doesn't make miracles (although it does turn water into wine)

  • I just posted a video of Office 2007 installing with Wine. (watch?v=yDmc4fG2AJM)

    Cheers,

    Tom

  • Is there a howto on the web ?

    Please

  • Great, very interesting !

Is there a howto on the web ?

    Thanks

  • Really Great!!! Just a question: - How to config it? Please, post!!! Thanks!!!

  • Yeah, it would be really nice to see a howto.. it might make my parents use linux! :D

  • excellent ... linux conversion is on its way!! ... what do i need to get in order to have this working?

  • a linux distribution, wine installed and the windows app you want to install.

  • Is it that easy to do? Any custom or special configurations and files needed?

  • Yes, for Office 2007 it is fairly difficult currently, but Office 2003 is a very easy install.
