Totally amazing and many thanks for showing us these films . The derailment film especially as it was filmed at cliddesten just outside basingstoke in the 1920s and i live in basingstoke a few miles from where this scene was made. I have made an extra post below with some details of what i know about the film THE WRECKER about a rival bus company versus a rail company . I belive in the near future this film is behing re issued?? Once again Many thanks . nigel .
Does anyone have any more information about the 'crash' footage at the end of this video? It looks as it a Steam Lorry or some such was deliberately placed on the track for some kind of test purposes or perhaps the sequence was used in a feature film?
At the point where the loco colides with the object it looks like you can just make out a double tyre from a Steam Wagon, and then again in the shot when the passengers disembark from the broken carriages.
@APBriggs2009 Hi the derailment film is an insert from the movie THE WRECKER filmed just outside the village of Cliddesten , south of Basingstoke in the 1920s. There used to be a light railway running between Basingstoke and alton .Also filmed on this railway was the WILL HAYES movie OH MR PORTER filmed at cliddesten , The station was fictionally called Buggleskelly .Sadly the track was ripped up many years ago but many clues are still visable from the A339 Basingstoke to alton road .
00:00 to 00:20 is definitely not North Camp, its Redhill. In the very first scene a line is seen bending off to the right and is electrified. From 00:11 to 00:20 the train is departing towards Tonbridge denoted by the letter 'T' on the signal at the far end of the platform. North Camp Station is not, and never has been electrified. Great footage though, keep them coming.
Very impressive set of old prints; incidentally the way that you have written the notes is very helpful and I'd like to say how much I appreciate this, especially as it must take a lot of time to do.
Excellent footage, but what was the score with the crash at the end...looked like it had been done as some sort of test, but then lots of people started jumping out of the carriages...bizarre!
Amazing great video thanks
