Can you explain me why just american doing this shit for the engine? No any european or uk citizens doing sea fom for engine. That shit is same as mix some coolant with the petrol.
@BlazEajayaday Works fine either way. It's dangerous to drive around with that amount of 'smoke' coming from your exhaust unless you have a closed off area to do so.
Get some clear tubing, pull off the hose shown here connecting to the Throttle Body, Attach the clear tubing to the nozzle on the throttle body, start car keep running at steady 2000rpm, dip clear tubing into a cup of seafoam, should take about 10min, do not completely submerge into seafoam, watch the seafoam bubble through tubing to get about a half air half foam mixture. I just dip a corner of the tubing in the cup and the other keep above the liquid... patience don't stall the motor.
@robinhood5750 did you ever end up getting yours off? I want to do this but i seem to be in the same boat and cant pull the vaccume line off! any ideas
hey my vac line connection is really tight, I can't pull it off or even pry it off with a screwdriver. was this a problem for you?how should i loosen it
actually you are suposed to pour the seafoam into the vac line so fast it cuts the engine out. its right in the seafoam instructional video. then you let it set 5 minutes and start the car up
Thanks, I just tried it and got lots of dark smoke. I then cleaned out the throttle body with Valvoline throttle and carb cleaner. Now it idles smoothly, has more power, and is a bit louder (not sure if that's good, but i'm assuming it is because of increase in power). Now i'm just waiting to do my oil change after 100 miles.
i bought cheap stuff autozone "injector cleaner" dumped a few cap fulls in past the butterfly valves at idle and dumped the rest into my 26 gallon gas tank runs a little better and getting a little better intown mileage of course anything that cleans helps a 11 year old V8 with 150000 miles on it
Cleans out gunky fuel injectors when it's put in the tank (noticed this over time when I added it to my gas.) Definitely cleans up carbon deposits in the engine (hence smoke show). Added though the evap vac intake to the throttle body. I noticed better acceleration/faster throttle response.
People argue over weather or not this stuff works. Some engines (like my high mileage 1) probably get more benefit over others. looks like you know some about cars so hope i'm not sounding like a jerk.
Hey, ColWalk, I have a 2002 jetta 2.0 GL, and I put a full can of seafoam in the tank, then filled it. I noticed almost immediate improvement. Great stuff. I want to do the seafoam engine fix, but one question... My car has 181,000 miles. If I do the seafoam trick, won't broken up carbon hurt my 02 sensor and possibly my cat converter? It seems logical that not all the carbon will be disintegrated. Let me know your thoughts on this, and any tips you have. Thx!
There is a product that you can use from NTB, however they do not sell it, this product will not hurt what you are worrying about. Cost is $109 though. Hope this helps. the reason I brought that up is because I do not have the answer for you about seafoam. (P.S.) I did not have to pay to get mine done 8-)
K did this today (MK3). I popped the little hose line going into the top of the throttle body and put a third of a can it. I used a water bottle, tilted it slowly and tipped it sucked it right in. Ha ha.
It didn't smoke for me though (kinda wish it did)
I drove city and highway. Noticed some better engine response. I put some in the crankcase and the rest in the fuel. Got 93 octane..just to see.
Yeah we Seafoamed my friends Accord and it smoked for a good 30+ minutes and my Jetta only smoked for about 2 minutes. It all depends on how much carbon buildup you have.
I was going to do this the other day but I didnt have time. Good to see that it will smoke otherwise I would be freaked out!
Good DIY. Gonna try this....i have an MK3 but what hose did you use. Are you using the The vac line going into the intake manifold? Also I've been reading that some people put a little in their oil, drive it around the block and then change the oil.

FYI you want to drive the car instead of free revving it. As said by seafoam.

@robinhood5750 Don't force anything off. Are you sure it's the right line? It may have something securing it on that you have to take off first.

jettaracer56 1 year ago
@jettaracer56 That would literally take all day. And forcing my engine to cut off without me manually doing it just sounds sketchy.
ColWalk06 1 year ago
Better if you take a see through plastic hose, put it int he seafoam can and let the vacuum suck the seafoam slowly into it... no spillage

Allright I've sat through enough of these seafoam vids I'm convinced to do it. My 2000 GLS w/213,000 miles might obscure satellites with the smoke.

@Turnback Let me know how that turns out, I wanna try it on my 220k mile tundra

I will. In fact I'll make a vid when I do it. Going to wait until the weather warms up though so maybe a month.

What about pouring some into the crankcase? I've seen some people do that too. And what about spark plugs? Can this foul your plugs?

I did noticed the smoothness in shifting right after doing it..
I can't really tell if it improves the gas mileage.
It's fun smoking though..
I smoke my Neighbors house while they're out shopping! Hahaha!! What fun!

Yeah just use the vac line going into the intake. I've heard of people putting some in their oil too but thats just too much work hahaha.
ColWalk06 2 years ago
Too much work!!!
1)Twist the oil cap. (counter-clock-wise)
2)Put recommended amount in.
2) Put oil cap back on (twist clock-wise)
3) Drive for another 150k
